5 out of 5 eggsJust Buy It!

Pros: if you're on the fence and don't know which monitor to get....BUY THIS ONE! Man, this monitor rocks!

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I bought this monitor for $10 off another website. it was damaged and "as is." Asus fixed it for me for $225!!! Asus customer service has improved so much that I would say that they are even with EVGA! WAY TO GO ASUS!

4 out of 5 eggsLooks great, but accessories could be better

Pros: This monitor has great picture quality and refresh rate.

Works perfectly good with my NVIDIA 560Ti at max resolution and refresh rate.

VESA mounts on the back work great for setting up 3 monitors side by side.

Cons: Power cord and DVI cables are too short. I will need to buy longer ones. They just barely reach from the top of my desk down to the floor.

Other Thoughts: No major regrets in purchasing this monitor so far. I bought it for gaming, and that is exactly what this monitor was made for.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome monitor. Big and bright.

Pros: Purchased this monitor a couple of months ago since I wanted to take somewhat full advantage of my first ever powerful gaming pc with a GTX690 video card and this thing is a beast. Apart from having a great picture I also get a very smooth (144Hz) game play experience with titles such as BF3 and BO2 with virtually no input lag. No regrets at all.

Cons: Built in speakers are pretty weak but it doesn't matter since I use high quality external Logitech speakers anyway.

Other Thoughts: Purchasing two more in the near future for triple monitor gaming.

5 out of 5 eggsRecommend

Pros: Great for gaming, love this thing and its HUGE!!! I still give 5 stars even though I had to RMA - No dead pixels! Awesome packing!

5 out of 5 eggsWorth it

Pros: Large screen, 144hz, 3D-Ready. Easily recognized in my system without having to load drivers, showing 144hz as an option. 3D gaming on it is amazing!

Cons: I wish it was cheaper so I could get 2 more for surround. My 23" 120hz Asus monitor had a gorgeous glossy screen that I was hoping would be a feature in this model......but unfortunately no.

Other Thoughts: Not as nice as my 30" 2560x1600 monitor obviously but this gets the job done as I love to game in 3D mode with my Nvidia 3D glasses. I have the original set that I used with a smaller 23"Asus 120hz monitor and I was nervous if it would be "backward compatible" with my glasses. Yes....they work just great.

No dead pixels in mine. That seemed to be an issue with a few. Display is rather bright but that was easily adjusted in the setup menu. Buttons are easy to use. The stand allows a full-range of adjustment.

4 out of 5 eggsBest Monitor for gaming

Pros: I am running 3 of these monitors in surround and i must say the games shine.some games aren't ready for surround but there is ways around that with some tweaking.i am not so much for the 3/D gaming but i tried it and it does work well, but the speed at 144hz is night and day in comparison to 60hz .if you are a gamer you owe it to yourself to make the switch.i can see the difference even from 120hz to 144hz, some have said you can't but i can. no more screen tearing that is what i was having in the past with my old 60hz LG playing BO2. some people don't realize they have screen tearing but it exists if you run a fast video card or sli..why would you spend so much money on sli or a $1000 video card that is only displaying 1/2 of what you are seeing on a 60hz monitor? i waited 3 months before i reviewed my experience and i am pleased. 1920 /1080 is good for now, most games made no difference in visual aspect above that and aren't developed for monitors above 1080. now at 144hz you will see how smooth game play is . i never tried the external speakers i use my head set ,the stand is good and sturdy and the menu buttons are just right .you can quick click for brightness adjust (which i have found at 50% is good for me).the brightness is a little high but that is ok and can be easily adjusted to your liking. colors are right on and vibrant .another key feature is (game mode, scenery, standard, night view)so it is easy with a click to get brightness preselected in the menu when you want it, i have mine set on game mode mostly. Skyrim, BO2,need some fixes to play in surround but look fantastic when applied. Amnesia looks fantastic in surround and no fixes were needed.(am looking forward to release of Amnesia AMFP)i am happy with my purchase .

Cons: A bit of back light bleed off around edges of the screen. adjusting my brightness down to 50% helped .if you decide to go surround (3x monitors) be prepared to have a headache with most games as they are not supporting this technology yet..i don't know why either but you will have to run some programs in the background to fix the 5760x1800 widescreen.BO2 is one of these games that don't work in surround unless you run a program fix in the back ground its annoying . and no you ATI guys it won't work for you either.

Other Thoughts: I am running nvidea 680sc x2 sli for my setup in surround. they are 2 gig cards and i am just fine no need for 4 gig cards yet. for example i have vsync enabled and i lock in 144fps steady on BO2..with 3 monitors..smooth as butter we will see what happens when Battlefied 4 comes out.

4 out of 5 eggsMy 2nd VG278HE

Pros: A 27" computer monitor with a 144Hz refresh is the obvious selling point. Sure, Windows desktop apps will look good, especially after a little color/brightness/contrast tweaking. Gaming is where the monitor excels, and so far I'm not disappointed.
I'd like to point out that this is my 2nd monitor of this make/model. My first one had only rouge pixel, and for the low number of reviews, we are seeing that complaint pop up quite a bit. I replaced it after it was damaged in a move.
I'm happy to report that monitor #2 (so far) has NO rogue pixels. While Asus can stand by their "industry standard" in regards to rogue pixels/screen size, there are other panel manufacturers out there that seem to have a LOT higher success rate in getting monitors into the homes of users without such a highly reported rogue pixel rate.

Cons: A little research is necessary on the part of the user before they dive into high refresh monitors. Luckily, there are enough hardware forums out there to get even the most novice user pointed in the right direction, even by only using the Search feature. It was in such a forum that I learned about an undocumented feature on my ASUS HD7970-DC2-3GD5 Radeon HD 7970 where I had to toggle a very small micro switch to enable the higher refresh rates. I say undocumented because I couldn't find any information related to that switch in the user manual. Once that switch was toggled, the higher refresh rates were selectable as a desktop resolution option.

My only real complaint with the display is that it doesn't come with a remote. Having a remote could make changing inputs easier. I think at this price point, a remote wouldn't be a bad thing.

Other Thoughts: You MUST use the included DVI-D cable to be able to use the high refresh rates. Which means, it must be connected to the DVI-D connector on your video card. Likewise, the HDMI port will NOT support high refresh rates. XBOX 360s work JUST FINE on the HDMI port.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Gaming Monitor

Pros: I wanted to follow up on my previous review. Newegg was fantastic about providing a return label and very quick during reshipment of my replacement monitor! 120hz with lightboost in 2D mode is fantastic for gaming. I definitely recommend this monitor to any gamer who is searching for that edge.

Cons: This replacement monitor also has a stuck pixel, but at least its not right in the middle of the screen. I will just accept the way it is this time. Although I'm sure Newegg is too busy to do so, I wanted to subtract an egg for not being able to double check the replacements for similar problems. However since they were hassle free to help, I did not.

Other Thoughts: I wish Newegg as well as other companies would push to get companies such as ASUS to back their monitors better than the current ISO 13406-2 ISO standard. A price tag like this is too high for a monitor with up to 3 bright or 5 dark pixels to be considered Acceptable.

1 out of 5 eggsBeautiful Monitor - Stuck/Dead Pixel

Pros: This monitor was easy to setup and looks nice. Clarity of 144hz is VERY good, and this thing is VERY bright as well.

Cons: I read a few reviews on people receiving this monitor with stuck/dead pixels. Didn't think I would be so unlucky. I guess I was wrong. Upon initail startup, there is a stuck red pixel in the center of the screen. I have ran programs to attempt to fix the stuck pixel with no luck. How very unfortunate. As a long time fan and owner of many ASUS products, I am far from impressed. With such a whopping price tag people should expect this thing to be perfect. I feel that this is totally Unacceptable. I sure hope NEWEGG or ASUS helps me out on this.

Other Thoughts: Would otherwise be fantastic for gaming.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear MikeP,

I’m sorry for the pixel issue. ASUS flat panel displays meet the ISO 13406-2 ISO standard. However, if, within 3 years, you spot 3 or more bright dots or 5 or more dark dots, please contact us and we’ll offer you rapid replacement for this monitor. If you see a stuck pixel, please try this tool: http://flexcode.org/lcd.html . Should you require assistance or if you’d like to discuss this topic with me, please contact me at cl-celeste@asus.com and include ref#1072-9812 in the subject line. I will do my best to assess, diagnose and resolve your concerns.

Sincerely,
Celeste
