2 out of 5 eggsDissatisfied - Returned

Pros: it is big and bright with expected connection choices. It has a glossy screen. The one I own (see below) is beautiful and easily the nicest monitor I have ever owned. To put that into perspective, I have had a personal computer of some sort since 1986.

Cons: The brightness was low on the left and high on the right. The color was slightly more yellow on the left and more blue on the right. Then within the first week I started getting stuck pixels. I was worried that it would soon crash and burn completely.

Other Thoughts: I already own one of these that I have been using happily since 2012. It is possible that this one was just a lemon but I am not inclined to try again. Two years is a long time and perhaps something has changed. I have returned it and asked for a refund.

Pros: quick ship, great condition, great product, very easy setup, Menu scroll lights up and very easy to manage comparatively speaking.

Cons: USB doesn't maintain power dist. when monitor off.

Other Thoughts: LED monitor quality appears superior to other types.

5 out of 5 eggsBest monitor I've owned

Pros: Glossy screen, edge-to-edge glass. This is going to be the reason you love this monitor or hate it. If you have a light source from behind you, you'll probably hate this monitor because of all the reflections. But if you can control the lighting from behind you then this will be the clearest and sharpest monitor you've ever seen!

This monitor is 1920x1080 (HD spec). Many 27" monitors are higher resolution, so some might be disappointed with 1920x1080. Me personally, 1920x1080 is a plus! I have always preferred monitors with a high pixel pitch.

Cons: My biggest complaint is the included cables - Dell gives you a VGA cable but no DVI or HDMI? Are you kidding me Dell!?! This is 2014, VGA is all but dead. Also, anyone spending money on a higher-end monitor like this isn't going to be using VGA. Spend the extra 50 cents and include DVI and/or HDMI cables.

The only other thing I would change about this monitor is the stand. I would like to have seen a vertical adjustment to raise the monitor up. I already had a platform I used to raise up my previous monitor so I used they on this monitor as well.

Other Thoughts: When you get this monitor, I highly recommend you lower the brightness. Factory default was something like 80%, I lowered it to 60% which is still plenty bright for my environment.

I'm usually not a fan of capacitive-touch buttons like this monitor uses for the power and menu controls. But I find that these buttons work really well.

Newer monitors like this are definitely light for their size. This 27" monitors weighs less than the 19" LCD it replaced.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat but not without a glaring flaw

Pros: Beautiful, vivid, smooth colors thanks to the IPS panel and glass front. Very low (less than one frame) input lag. Does not use PWM for backlight dimming, which ordinarily can cause flickering noticeable when quickly moving your eyes or moving your head. Works with standard 100x100 mounts.

Cons: The far right quarter of the screen is brighter than the rest on mine and causes colors to look lighter and slightly blue-tinted. Sadly, this seems to be a common problem with this monitor. While not ridiculously obvious, it can be noticeable on large blocks of any solid color and is frustrating once you know about it. It doesn't render the monitor unusable (except maybe for professional work) but a monitor this expensive really shouldn't have an issue like this.

Additionally, smooth, rapid movement of anything on screen will produce a noticeable black shadow behind it, mainly because of the slightly higher than average response time and because, according to some reviews, the panel is apparently overdriven.

Other Thoughts: Yes, the screen is very glossy. Almost mirror-like when off. This is not a con for me because I only use it in a pitch black environment. You should be aware of how many light sources are in the room you plan to use it in before purchasing.

Also, I've found alcohol-based, lint-free lens cleaning wipes are best for cleaning the glass, so a box of those are good to have around if you want to keep it pristine.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor

Pros: Excellent monitor. No dead pixels. Beautiful colors. High quality construction. Awesome cost vs performance. Awesome for gaming running SLI 680s, truly remarkable.

Cons: Some people might not like the glare, not an issue for me at all. Love the glass front.

5 out of 5 eggsNice colors

Pros: Nice colors, pretty accurate out of box after reducing brightness to 44

glass screen makes images "pop", sharp too

very low input, good for pc gaming

Cons: glass screen means sharper images at the expense of reflections. You MUST control + limit your light source (shut curtains or blinds) in front of this monitor (to reduce reflections).

Other Thoughts: price has gone up....this monitor is well worth $300, but not much more, ( it is1920 x 1080, its not 2560 x 1440)

5 out of 5 eggsDell S2740L

Pros: Excellent color representation, excellent contrast, bright and sharp picture

Cons: high polished screen reflects light from windows, etc...

Other Thoughts: I love this monitor. I have used it watch movies, play video games and do work. Its sharp, clear, bright, and there is a noticeable difference in the color quality and accuracy over a regular TN LED display. Plus - the optimal viewing angle is much wider than with typical TN LED displays.
The people who claim IPS screens have drawbacks when compared to TN LED screens are simply people who have never owned a IPS screen. I am eagerly awaiting the day IPS televisions come out.

4 out of 5 eggsLove this Monitor!

Pros: I've had multiple monitors throughout my life, and this beast is without a doubt the best i've ever owned. The colors are so vivid and bright, the text is so crisp, there's just no comparison between this monitor and any others i have owned.

Cons: The only Con to this monitor is the shininess of the screen. It's incredibly reflective and any light source near you is sure to be reflected off the screen. If you use it in an area where there is no light sources behind you while you use it, you'll never notice.

Other Thoughts: I'm glad i took the plunge and bought this monitor, I hope to buy another one before they change the external design, running two of these monitors side-by-side would be awesome!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Glossy Monitor

Pros: Bright, nice whites and brilliant colors -- really brings media to life -- even old mpg videos look better compared to viewing them on a matte screen.

Cons: Some inverse ghosting -- wish it had a displayport to daisy chain multiple monitors.

Other Thoughts: I have three of these in a triple display setup attached to a GTX680 and they are visually stunning. I used to be attached to matte displays, but this monitor won me over to the glossy side (coming from the Dell 2405WFP and Dell U2413 and various other models.) There is some slight inverse ghosting when scrolling through text on web pages, but it's not too bad and adjusting brightness/contrast to the monitor helps fix that. Also note, this does have IPS glow, but nowhere near as bad as the U2413 (terrible horizontal viewing angles due to the glow -- which makes the screen look hazy -- but vertical angles are near perfect -- but I don't do jumping jacks in my chair, so I don't care about v-angles, but I do move around left to right at my desk, so the poor h-viewing angle is a real minus.) However, there is some glow (I think the front glass glossy panel helps minimize the glow) and the h-angle is nowhere as bad as most other IPS monitors. Also note, having three of these, I did not see any crosshatching, no IPS green/pink tinting in the corners and no problems with the PWM. I do gaming on them too, and while I have no idea what to look for with input lag, I've experienced no issues playing BF2/BF4 and Skyrim with them. If Dell, by chance, reads this, please make a U2413 like this -- wide gamut glossy with no IPS green/pink tinting!!! U2413G!
