1 out of 5 eggsExpensive paperweight if you're a Comcast customer.

Pros: Great modem for the price if you can find a broadband provider that will let you use it.

Cons: Even with the discounted $30 price, it's overpriced since Comcrap has placed it in End of Life status. They pushed an update and borked mine about a week ago.
I had been hoping to hold out until DOCSIS 3.1 got rolled out. Guess it was too much to hope for, as this model rolled out in Sep 2004.
I think fundamentally the problem is that it is a Hitron modem rebranded by Zyxel and neither wants to take responsibility for keeping the firmware up to date.

Other Thoughts: So far my research shows these current DOCSIS 3.0 options to consider for bare cable modems:

Arris Surfboard (former Motorola divsion) models:

6141 channels: 8 dn/4 up intro Dec 2012 ~$70 *
6183 16/4 Jul 2014 ~100
6190 32/8 Oct 2015 ~$150

TP-LINK
TC-7610 8/4 Aug 2015 ~$60

* - from what I understand, the 6141 has bounced on and off the EOL list.

3 out of 5 eggsSoon to NOT work with Comcast

Pros: Good for up to 130 Mbps download speed on Comcast (doesn't max out my Blast 150 though).
Lasted 1.75 years, and still going.

Cons: End of Life, and soon to be End of Support with Comcast.
Only 4x4 channel, can't max out

Other Thoughts: Buggy firmware is one of the main reasons comcast cited. Search for:
comcast end of support zyxel brg 35503
Zyxel should be more rigorous in updating their firmware.
3 Stars as it worked fine, but now it's EoS already, even though it's DOCSIS 3.0.

1 out of 5 eggsComcast End of Life Device 11/2015!

Pros: None right now, as it cannot be activated on Comcast any longer...

Cons: Comcast put this on their list of End-of-Life devices 11/2015. You will no longer be able to activate it on their network.

Other Thoughts: Do not purchase for Comcast.

3 out of 5 eggsGee, Comcast.....

Pros: Looks nice. Comes with nice, bright flashing LED lights and stuff. It's too bad that comcast says the device is "too new" to be listed in their database of compatible devices.

Cons: I'm sure ZyXel makes fine products.....This is more of a comcast issue than a ZyXel one.

Other Thoughts: Hey Comcast, Let's get with the program!!!!

1 out of 5 eggsComcast says no EOL devices

Pros: low cost

Cons: I tried to registere the MAC address with Comcast but Comcast tech support says this device is on the End of Life list and they will not add it to their network.

1 out of 5 eggsNot compatible with comcast!

Pros: None for comcast users!

Cons: Not compatible with Comcast!

Other Thoughts: I tried to activate this modem and it was on the approved list of modems on the comcast site. As I was on the phone with the rep, they came back and told me it wasn't compatible. I checked the list again and they had removed it while I was on hold! Had to run to the store and pick up a Zoom 5345, which was activated with no problems.

2 out of 5 eggsDid not last

Pros: Cheap, worked

Cons: Quit working

Other Thoughts: Only lasted 10 months. Paid $20 after rebate so I guess the deal was ok. I would rather pay more for something that will last longer.

5 out of 5 eggsThumbs Up

Pros: The Internet does not freeze because of the Traffic and/or Weather anymore. Also the download speed is noticeably faster than the modem from my former ISP. So far, this product is a GREAT DEAL!

Cons: I have nothing to report as of now.

2 out of 5 eggsNot Worth Purchasing

Pros: Cheap, I bought 2 of these for on sale back in June of 2014 but they sat on the shelf until I got motivated to try installing it.

The connection speed is great 5x faster in uploads and downloads than my old, yet very reliable and never had a problem, Motorola SB5100 cable modem. Also the size is tiny so it doesn't take up much real estate on my desk.

Cons: I didn't hook up either of these until two days ago. The first was dead and the second unit worked but was unable to connect with Comcast. A Comcast tech was out for an hour today but to no avail. I persisted for another hour and finally got it to work. By connecting to the modem through a web browser (192.168.100.1) and going to the initialization screen there is a drop down box to choose MddIpModeOverride Options. It has to be changed from the default settings to IPv4 for it to connect with Comcast. By default, the modem should detect the appropriate connectivity protocol but for some reason it only see's IPv6. Unfortunately, if you unplug the modem, or if it looses power, it also loses the settings and goes back to default settings...which means that you have to go back into the modem's internal software and reset the values. As soon as I finish this review I'm going to order an Arris/Motorola SURFboard SB6141 modem. This modem is cheaply made and it isn't user friendly.

Other Thoughts: Don't waste your money on this modem. I happened to buy 2 for a great sale price but it turned out to be a waste of $$$.
