Saitek Pro Flight Combat Series X-52 Pro H.O.T.A.S. System for PC and Mac
Precise Combat Flight Sim Action

Precise Combat Flight Sim Action

Saitek's X52 Pro Flight H.O.T.A.S. System is a fully integrated hands on stick and throttle flight controller that meets or exceeds the demands of the best flight simulator pilots. Featuring an upgraded multifunction LCD which shows in-game data in real time, a progressive throttle with tension adjustment, plus an adjustable joystick with a self-centering mechanism. The X52 Pro takes all the standout features from the original X52 and elevates them to a higher altitude.

Dual-Spring Centering Mechanism

A highly accurate centering mechanism ensures the joystick will easily return to the neutral position after you let go. Non-contact technology on the X and Y axes enhance control while increasing durability. And, the stick becomes more resistant as it moves farther away from the center position.

Advanced Grip Adjustment System

Advanced Grip Adjustment System

A five-position handle adjustment system conforms to your grip style and hand size. And to promote maximum comfort during long flights, the joystick's handle also features contours which harmonize with your digits.

3D Twist with Rudder Lock

3D Twist with Rudder Lock

The joystick's twist rudder controls add another dimension of command to simulated flight. If you prefer more traditional control, a rudder lock switch disables the twist capabilities and confines input to the X and Y axes—ideal for use with Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals (sold separately).

Progressive Throttle with Resistance Adjustment

Progressive Throttle with Resistance Adjustment

The throttle unit's progressive functionality improves aircraft response. Detents—physical markings indicating where a certain action takes places—simplify control of your plane's idle and reverse thrusters. Yet another customizable feature found on the X52 Pro, a tension adjustment dial lets you change the throttle's resistance to suit the way you fly.

Multifunction LCD Display

Multifunction LCD Display

The X-52 Pro's LCD screen—with adjustable backlighting—enables you to view information about your button configurations with only a quick glance. Even more beneficial is the ability to directly manipulate radio stack information in FSX, X-Plane, Prepar3D, and most flight simulation software. You can then use the buttons residing below the Multifunction Display (MFD) to cycle through essential radio stack functions. A downloadable Software Development Kit allows you to create your own MFD interactions.

Powerful Programming Software

Powerful Programming Software (PC Only)

After installing downloadable software, you are then free to create custom profiles for different flight sims. Three mode settings and a pinkie switch provide enhanced programming options for even more control in your favorite sim. And, all button programming is color coded. Assign a color to each button's tri-state LED, and then make adjustments via controller settings within joy.cpl (Game Controllers).

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT GAMBLE

Pros: Looks and feels the part, a good middle range HOTAS

Cons: First set received, the LEDs on the flight stick stopped functioning approximately 1 week into ownership. Living on the East Coast, and New Egg having their RMA processing facilities in CA meant a nice long cross country trip via UPS ground, but if that means a fully functioning product, then okay.
Wait the 2+ weeks for delivery of a replacement and all seems fine until the potentiometer controlling the yaw axis goes bad in the flight stick. No resetting, changing USBs or any of the normal stuff can fix that, so this time it's refund time. So two sets, two bad flight sticks in about a week of actual use between the two.

Other Thoughts: Please, DO NOT GAMBLE. The quality assurance on these products is nothing short of horrible. I chose to ignore all the other reviews blasting MadCatz for their terrible QA since acquiring Saitek. Save yourself some time and a little aggravation and do not gamble on this HOTAS. If however you're the type that thinks they build billion dollar casinos in the middle of the desert because you're the lucky one, at least save the boxes and packaging for later.

1 out of 5 eggsNo go on the drivers, locked up the system/PC.

Pros: None.

Cons: Doesn't work. At. All.

Other Thoughts: Two hours spent trying to get the drivers to install resulted in a wasted afternoon, and a locked up PC. There's little else to say but thank you to newegg for their excellent return policy. ;)

4 out of 5 eggsNo Problems with Drivers and Windows 10

Pros: Let me first say that after ordering this, I read that a lot of people were having trouble gettings all of the functionality out of their X52 Pro with the last Windows 10 update. I was a little worried that I got myself into a bad situation even though there are fairly simple workarounds, it would just be annoying to deal with them. Fortunately I am not seeing any issues. I installed the latest drivers off the Saitek site and followed the instructions exactly. Everything on both the Stick and Throttle seem to be working properly for me. So if you are having any issues still, I highly recommend doing a fresh install of drivers and software off the Saitek site. Now to my Review..

Pros:
-Ergonomically well laid out and has an adjustable palm rest on the stick
-Easy to reach Hats and Button with my Medium-Large sized hand
-Easy to use Software with LED color settings, brightness, deadzones etc..
-Smooth Stick movement without any annoying hitch when coming back to center
-Resistance adjustment on the Throttle
-3 on the fly profiles via a knob on the Stick
-Passthroughs on both the Stick and Throttle for bolting it down to a Cockpit or Desk (Suction Cups also included)

Im very pleased with my X52 Pro so far. It has everything I need for games like Elite D and Star Citizen without being over crowded with hats and Buttons like the X55 Rhino. Very smooth operation on both the Throttle and Stick and the Hat and Button quality feel much better than expected.

Cons: My only reason for giving this 4 Eggs instead of 5 is because I am not able to Calibrate the Mouse Cursor knob at the thumb position on the Throttle. It is off center to the right a little in the Saitek software and I cannot find an option to Calibrate it. Its not a huge deal because I simply dont use it very often but just a slight annoyance and I can only assume its a quality control issue.

Other Thoughts: This is my second Saitek HOTAS. The first being an X55 Rhino. I ordered an early edition of the X55 and had all kinds of issues with the software, buttons ghosting and random disconnects in about 6 months of lite use. Finally it just flat out died and I sent it back to Saitek for warranty but they didnt have any replacements available at the time. Somehow I convinced them to give me a credit and I ordered this X52 Pro. I'll be completely honest in saying that I was pretty much ready to write off Saitek completely but, this X52 Pro is pretty Awesome. I guess after having it out on the market for quite a few years they have worked out the bugs because its very smooth and ergonomically extremely well thought out. I highly recommend it for $160.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat flight stick... maybe not the best.

Pros: - Good looking piece of kit.
- Flight stick feels premium and has nice metal accents.
- Works right out the box, no problems on 64-bit Windows 10 Pro.
- Priceless for games like Elite Dangerous.

Cons: - Base needs weight. I might look into opening up the case and adding some steel bars to weight it down.
- Although the stick itself is nice, the plastic overall feels kind of cheap, especially for the price.
- Spring on stick is a bit too loose. Kind of wish I sprung for the version that has adjustable springs (no pun intended).

Other Thoughts: I bought this for Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen and what ever other flight sim may cross my path. Once I match this up with the Vive, it's gonna be so awesome.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat flight stick, but driver issues hold it back...

Pros: Performance is great although I wish it were a little heaver to hold it in place. It comes with suction cups, but they wouldn't stick to my desk if I tried.

Cons: I hadn't used it in a while, when I plugged it in - nothing. Turns out there were driver issues with a previous major Windows 10 update. Since new drivers were released since then, I downloaded them. Still nothing. Turns out it was a common issue, but none of the work arounds fixed it. The fact that I had to resort to work arounds was disappointing as it is. The Windows update in question had been out for at least 2 months. With all the people having the same issue as me, they should have had something working in that amount of time. I don't know how but I ended up getting things working on accident.

Other Thoughts: 5 eggs with more reliable/working drivers.

2 out of 5 eggsThree RMAs in as many months

Pros: It feels good and solid. Lots of functionality, pretty lights etc, etc, etc.

Cons: It breaks ALOT!!!! I've had to return mine for RMA twice and I'm about to return my third in three months. I'm spending half my time without the product. The issues all seem to be associated with the shoddy design of the throttle.

Things that have broken so far.

First RMA: Throttle hat downward directional stopped working.
Second RMA: Throttle Detent failure.
Third RMA: Throttle causing phantom signal on X rotation, Y rotation and Slider.

3 out of 5 eggsNice when it works!

Pros: - compatible with many games
- illuminated so easy to see buttons in the dark
- suction cups to keep it from lifting of the desk

Cons: - software and driver support is horrible

Other Thoughts: In Windows 10 this thing keeps disconnecting and re-connecting leading to un-responsiveness while playing games. Every time I plug it into a different USB port I need to manually specify the drivers. I have tried both USB 2 and USB 3 ports, directly into my MB as well as via a powered USB hub. This has been the worst peripheral I have ever used. I need to replace it soon for fear of throwing it on the floor. I can no longer enjoy playing any games with it. I -could- replace it with an X55 but I read that it is also on the same poor quality level and the TM HOTAS does not have twist for rudder.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat product but they need to update their windows 10 drivers

Pros: Great stick, responsive, can be adjusted to fit your hand and the software allows multiple configurations and macros with in a single profile.

Cons: Software/Driver support is lacking but this isn't too surprising it is saitek/madcatz. The latest windows 10 update broke the drivers which has lead to actual BSODs in windows 10 when switching profiles or disconnecting the joystick.

Other Thoughts: Would recommend but with the warning that this can turn into a decidedly not plug and play device so if you know how to poke around the OS and search for solutions to problems go for it otherwise I would look for a setup from a company with a better track history of reliable drivers.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work!

Pros: Looks cool

Cons: Cannot even get past driver install. Terrible product! Shame on you Saitek/Madcatz.

Want to call customer support? Guess what- BOTH PHONE NUMBERS printed inside the packaged literature are NOT IN SERVICE.

A quick google search will reveal that a TON of people are having similar issues. Driver install hangs and then you have to hard reset your system. I am using Win 7ult 64bit. How hard is it to make a controller actually work when plugged in to an OS that's been out for like 7 years??? I saved my money for this thing and now i feel duped! What a waste of my time and a true disappointment.

Shame on Newegg as well- there are SO many complaints online about this thing- you should really let your customers know what they're getting into.

Other Thoughts: disappointed and frustrated. nothing makes me madder than a bogus product and a complete lack of support..

2 out of 5 eggsBad drivers for USB 3.0

Pros: Good customer support, feels good in your hand. when it worked on my old MB it was great.

Cons: First one had the throttle break. Then I got a new MB with USB 3.0 ports and the trouble started. Could not load the driver software with out crashing my computer. MONTHS of trouble shooting it's a known issue where people disabled their USB 3.0 ports in order t install it. No thanks I sold it and got a warthog. Too many problems! Look up the problems people have had before you buy!

Other Thoughts: If they fixed the USB problem with the install software and fixed the throttle from breaking it would be a great HOTAS set up.
