Excellent canal phones for the money
- Pros: Good isolation characteristics. Detailed and balanced sound, with good soundstage and imaging. For the money, they're really unbeatable in-ear cans, and compare favorably with similar-designed units costing twice as much; of the lower-priced canals I've tested and/or owned, the CX300 is unrivaled in terms of performance. At reasonable volume levels, the CX300 has been quite easy to listen to; they have proven to be non-fatiguing in use, and don't apply any sort of pressure that banded on-ear cans often do, even including some of the most comfortable ones. I've generally found them more enjoyable to use than earbud-type phones as well; the driver housing is small enough to fit into the ear without any irritating chafing like earbuds can cause.
- Cons: Despite good isolation from airborne sounds, transmitted vibrations via the CX300's rubberized cabling takes some getting used to for the uninitiated, and even for persons used to this sort of acoustic transmission it can still be as annoying as in-ear cans from other manufacturers. Bass-heavy music can be a bit unbalanced-sounding, but that's not surprising for a set of cans in this price range. Unequal length cable leads like the CX300 uses are not to my personal liking. No included case. At the time of this writing, the black versions are $xx MORE than the silver variation here on newegg...why?
- Other Thoughts: The CX300 canal phones will probably be judged by most anyone as NOT sounding as good as comparably-priced on-ear units, such as Sennheiser's own excellent PX100 design. But the CX300 does something far better than the open-air PX100 can ever hope to achieve: seal most airborne noise out. These canals generally keep sound leakage pretty much in check--both in AND out--and I feel they do so without significantly compromising the quality of the music. They work effortlessly with any of my iPods, as well as with my Nomad Zen and iRiver disc player.
If sound isolation is a must, the CX300 has shown to me to be a vast improvement over Sony's canal designs, and give more expensive designs like Etymotic's ER-6 series and Shure's E2c a serious run for the money. Highly recommended, as long as you understand the implications and drawbacks with going with a canal-type headphone set.
Awesome in-ear monitors!!
- Pros: Nice bass. Typical smoothe "Sennheiser" sound across the frequency range. Nice attenuation of outside sound. No need to stick in ear canal as far as some iem's.
- Cons: On some music, you may wish for just a tad less mid-upper bass. Cords are thin and can get tangled. But, that's being nick-picky!
- Other Thoughts: Was not expecting the kind of bass these put out. Won't replace the higher-end Sennheisers (i.e. 595's, 650's), but they MORE than get the job done!! Extremely nice alternative for portable audio.

The Sound Quality of Massive Over the Ears Headphones in Earbuds!
- Pros: Wonderful sound quality! Excellent bass! Distinct highs and mids. Cancels all outside noise. Stays in ears easily. Cord isn't too long and doesn't catch on my bicycle and get shredded like several of my older pairs, but not too short either, no pulling on my ears.
- Cons: none yet
- Other Thoughts: These are by far the best earbud headphones I've used. They've actually increased the amount of work I get done. Buy them.
Happy, happy
- Pros: Good sound, sound isolating, and comfortable.
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: I misplaced my first set of CX300's and bought the CX400's to replace them. But the cord on those is a strange two-piece thing, so I donated those to my wife when I found the CX300's were on close out.
lasted @ 1 yr
- Pros: they lasted @ 12 monts of daily use before the l shaped connector started failing. asking sennheiser if they will replace them.
otherwise buying another pair - jr.com has them for $16
they are that good i'll keep buying even if they break.
- Cons: short cord is lame
