Audiophiles, have we got a pair of headphones for you! Hear your music in Xtreme fidelity at home or while traveling.

A compact sturdy case keeps your 'phones safe and comfortable, an airline jack adapter allows you to use them while flying, and a multitude of adapters allow your iPhone or MP3 player to join the fun, too. Powerful neodymium magnets in the drivers give great response in a compact size. And that's before you even activate its circuitry. Three functions in particular can enhance your listening experience: outside noise cancellation of up to 20dB, signal processing to “restore” some of the sound lost in MP3 compression, and surround-sound to truly immerse yourself in your listening experience.

Only you can decide if these are the headphones for you. But I know that I want a pair!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat headphones!

Pros: High quality construction. Ergonomic design fits well on your head, and the cups comfortably enclose around your ears. The leather material used around the cushions of both the ear cups and the head band is extremely comfortable as well.

The noise cancelling works very nicely. Even without sound emitting, it noticeably blocks out the majority of noise around you. The sound quality is top notch. It has a good balance of both the accoustic frequencies and the lower bass frequencies. I really like the volume wheel on the right ear cup. It allows you to change the volume coming from the headphones even if you can't easily or quickly get to the source of the sound (i.e. if your iPod was in your pocket). The cable also detaches from the headphones, so you can better pack it away without getting it all tangled up around the headphones. Very convenient. It also came with a nice sturdy carrying case. A little bulky, but does a good job of protecting them.

Cons: The price. Even with a $100 instant rebate, which is what I got from Newegg, $200 is a lot of money to spend on headphones. Even with all the great qualities of these headphones, I still feel guilty for spending so much on headphones. The X-Fi Crystalizer and X-Fi CMSS 3D aren't that impressive. In my opinion they do not drastically alter the sound of the music one way or the other. If anything it makes the sound a little more grainy, which I don't see as that big of an improvement.

Other Thoughts: I had cut out an article from a magazine about 2 years ago that rated the top line noise-cancelling headphones. Their reviewer sampled this pair, the Bose Quietcomfort 2, the Sennheiser PXC 350, and another pair that I don't recall. His assessment was that the Creative Aurvana was hands down the best set. I was a little disappointed that there weren't more positive reviews here on Newegg, and elsewhere. I was already concerned with the price, and wanted to be sure. I risked it, and I am very happy I did. I have listened through the Bose Quiet Comfort 2 headphones before, but they didn't block out the noise nearly as well, and their strength is in the accoustic - high frequencies, the lows do not come through well. I still think it is silly to spend so much money on headphones, but if you are in the market for a top-end set, and willing to shell out the money, I strongly recommend these headphones. You will not be disappointed.

5 out of 5 eggsGuilty pleasure

Pros: Excellent stereo image and sonic depth. The guilty pleasure part is the "Crystalizer" and "3D" processing. I'm a sound guy, with trusty discontinued AK240DFs as my only cans forever, and I'd usually scoff at DSP stuff like this- but these things BLOW ME AWAY! I love 'em. Rediscover all your favorite tracks, especially the MP3 versions...

Cons: If you're on a jet, the seats around you can definitely hear at least the snare drums and hats, and quite likely full lyrical content. I actually think the fact these guys "breath" a bit helps, but if leakage is a deal-killer for you, then pass on these.

Other Thoughts: I suppose I shouldn't be so surprised with the engineering at Creative Labs- I recently got a HD video recorder that is also incredible- but that's another story...

Pros: Yep, looks and sounds good, nice case, etc... But there's more to a product than it's initial performance...

Cons: The company will charge $12.95 to ask a question ("Do you service, repair, or sell parts for my Aurvana X-Fi headphones?" "No, but you might want to visit our online store to purchase a replacement set of headphones. Any other questions?").

What broke? A small plastic piece, where the head band adjusts. So a $300 pair of headphones is useless for want of a $1 part!

BOSE repairs out of warranty products (and provides a 1 year warranty afterwards) and also sells some replacement parts. I owned mine just over a year before they broke - $300 down the drain!

$300 is a lot of money - buy a product that's supported - BUY BOSE - I'll never buy CREATIVE again...

Of late I see signs that this product looks like it's being discontinued - CREATIVE is out of stock with no available date and prices are dropping at other dealers.

Other Thoughts: Eats batteries like they're made by the Energizer Bunny!!!

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT Headphones

Pros: Incredible sound quality, noise cancellation, and they're very comfortable. Couldn't possibly have asked for better headphones.

Cons: The "sound-enhancing" features might be noticeable to some, but the quality without these is great already. I normally keep both of them off.

Other Thoughts: I'm a college student with an -incredibly- loud roommate and these headphones have been fantastic. I would highly recommend these to anyone. They're a little expensive, but I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with them.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fantastic sound quality. Great active nc, and the x-fi crystallizer works great, havn't spent much time in cmss=3d mode. comes with great acccesories, sturdy case, two cords, two adaptors. Comfortable, adjustable padded headband.

Cons: It does eat batteries, about every 8-12ish hours. I think the sound is worth it. Your mileage may vary. Quite a bit of your music or w/e does "leak" out, and everyone in the room can hear if above a moderate level.

Other Thoughts: I'd def buy again. Reco to all you travellers and those who have to sleep thru noise. It's a godsend.

4 out of 5 eggsThe better choice among noise cancelling headphone

Pros: The Aurvana X-fi offers three buttons for turning on noise cancellation, x-fi, and cmss 3d. A convenient volume dial on the right cup. The inital feel is very comfortable. The detachable cord allows high versatility and if you are geeky enough, a replacement monster cable audio cord. Solid build. Batteries last fairly long.

Cons: The X-fi does change the music a slight bit. Its not very noticeble though you do notice it. (whether its good or bad depends on one's opinion). The CMSS 3d in my opionion is useless in that the surround config makes sounds less crisp. Prolonged wearing does start to hurt your ear (annoy?)

Other Thoughts: However, overall this is a great headphone. Compared to other options like Bose's qc2, qc3, Sony's NC500D, Sennheiser's giant nc headphone, I think the value of creative's aurvana x-fi is the best. And therefore deserves a good look if you are in for a pair of Noise Cancelling headphones.

5 out of 5 eggsAurvana - or BLISS

Pros: These block noise extremeley well at high DB's. They feel amazing - like no other headphones i've worn. comes with an extension cord and larger 6.3mm jack, and a two-prong jack for airplanes that dont accept only 3.5mm. CMSS-3D for movies.

Cons: the noise cancelling doesnt work the opposite way, so others can hear your music if its too loud. Somewhat of a con, but expected is that it requires batteries to use digital effects.

Other Thoughts: The way the headphone wire plugs into the headphones is quite useful. The case it comes with holds the phones and has a little zipper pouch inside. I use the 6.3mm adapter to plug into my guitar amp so i dont bug my neighbors and can play as loud as i want, with much better quality than my amp can put out from its speaker.
You can listen to it w/o batteries in it or with it off and dont get the digital noise cancellation, but the sound is still good quality.
These phones really shine with the CMSS-3D when watching movies. Definately theater quality.
