4 out of 5 eggsSound great even with a cheap source

Pros: Bought these for PC gaming that doesn't require a microphone (Single player) and they sound decent.

My PC doesn't have a dedicated sound card so I'm using the headphone out jack on my cheap (W**mart) 5.1 surround sound set up. But even still these are almost* the best sounding headphones I've ever heard.

When I listen to music I hear tones I never knew were in the song and lyrics that used to sound like gibberish actually sound like words.

Cons: Almost no bass rumble at all. I've heard cheapper headphones with better bass rumble. Well let me explain you hear the bass but it's flat like it's being heard from far away all the rumble is gone.

Technically the bass is all there but it's not like a subwoofer it's not gonna rumble.

The upside to less bass means you hear everything else in the song that's not the bass. Like the lyrics or guitar.

Other Thoughts: I think I over paid... I paid around 130 bucks after shipping but I think if I had gone to a competitor or waited for a sale I could have paid less.

5 out of 5 eggssolid pro headphones

Pros: sounds great, rugged and bulletproof.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: this is my 2nd set of MDR-V6 in 23 years. as a professional DJ and producer, these have always been my go to for playing out as well as listing to music when using high end event monitors is not an option.
the 1st pair had club / event use from '93-'99 in loud environments. after 6 years the left driver died but I was still able to use them for DJing as I only use the right ear for mixing live. the second pair was purchased in '99 and has been running strong since then with no problems.
the outer earpads on both sets have become unattached to the driver but this is not a problem and in no way effects the sound or functionality of the headphones. I attribute this it the heavy work load they have seen out where they are beat around and taken off both ears quite often. there aren't many headphones that can stand up to this punishment
10 out of 10 here!

5 out of 5 eggsDefinitely Studio Headphones

Pros: If you're looking for very high quality and super detailed sound, these may be for you. Sounds from either end of the equalizer come as intended by the artist: treble is crisp and clear while bass is powerful and solid. Bass-heavy music is especially satisfying to listen to. The headphones are built exceptionally well. I expect the entire thing to last for a very long time. The pads are very comfortable and I can wear the headphones for hours on end. The cable is a tad heavy, but the coiled design makes it easy to manage and I have no problem stretching the cable 1.5 meters from rest to move around. The large, metal plug design is a godsend, because most of my other earphones/headphones have had wear & tear around the plug area. Also, the headphone's classic and spartan design makes it quite the looker.

- high quality, detailed sound
- unaltered, unbiased sound
- long-lasting build quality
- solid plug design
- classic and spartan aesthetic

5 out of 5 eggsbuy these

Pros: Sound great- well built and fit nice, priced right.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: There is a reason these things have such a high user review rating. Very good sound and build. Much better than some much more expensive headsets I have used.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Amazing sound, great price, extremely comfortable, very affordable.

Cons: Broke with minimal use (5-10 hours a week tops) after about 3 months, sound only comes out of the left speaker. They weren't dropped or stepped on or damaged in any way, it just stopped working out of nowhere. A little disappointing because I bought these headphones pretty much because of all the reviews saying how good quality and long lasting they are.

5 out of 5 eggsAccurate, durable, comfortable

Pros: The first thing you need to understand about these is that they're studio monitors. They're made to output sound exactly as it should be. The extremely deep smooth bass doesn't overpower the mids and highs (if you want that, set your EQ).

The second thing you should understand is these are extremely durable. If you treat these right, they'll last you forever. The only issue with wear I've had is the stickers coming off and the ear pads coming apart after a couple years of really heavy use (replacement velour pads by beyerdynamic are available and worth it). I've rolled over on these in my sleep a few times over the years and had one of the ear pieces pop out. It's really simple to just pop it back in and the plastic (that holds the metal ear piece) is extremely solid.

These are not ultra-portable, because of the extremely long cord length, but they do fold up fairly nice. The isolation and sound-leakage isn't great, but much better than anything else that has anywhere near as good audio quality. You could get away with listening to these on an airplane without disturbing the person next to you too much. Also, the cord can be tucked away in your pocket or twist-tied up.

If all you want is a quality, durable design with unbiased sound, buy these.

Cons: The ear pads will probably have to be replaced after around the equivalent of a year of daily heavy use.

The sound accuracy doesn't discriminate against poor quality sources, so lossy digital music audio artifacts might be more noticeable.

Can make your expensive home theater system sound terrible in comparison.

Other Thoughts: These also do have a bit of a burn-in period. You should hold your judgement until you've put at least 100 hours through them.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Headphones

Pros: I bought these over a year ago and have yet to write a review. These headphones are, by far, the most comfortable and best sounding I have ever worn. I keep these things on for hours and the only problem over that extremely long period of time is my ears finally start to get warm. If mine were to be lost, stolen, or broke then I would immediately order another set.

Cons: Only thing I can think of is after over a year of use, some of the material that connects to the inside of the earphone is beginning to tear. Granted, that could be more from my rough use as opposed to the actual quality of the headphones.

5 out of 5 eggsThe only headphones I'll ever buy...

Pros: I've been using this exact headphone since I was 12 years old. I've always come back to it for gaming and music. I wouldn't choose anything else. Don't be fooled by Bose and their brand name - stick with Sony.

Cons: None
