Breathe new life into your games, music and movies with powerful lighting effects in 16 million colors. Event-driven lighting is very much like the game itself completely in your face! You will be in no doubt that you've been through an intense battle as the lighting dramatically accentuates the muzzle flashes and explosions. The Cyborg amBX isn't just for games. You can also use other media players to visualize your music and immerse yourself into movies.

  • newegg Multi-hinge design The Cyborg amBX incorporates multi-hinge design for flexible positioning to maximize color spread.
  • newegg Breathe new life into your games The innovative amBX system helps build enhanced atmosphere to create a truly immersive surround gaming experience. Especially useful for those late night gaming sessions, the amBX lights may even help relieve eye strain by spreading the colour and light beyond that displayed by your monitor. Dependent on the game and its level of support for amBX, the lighting effects range from ambient lighting that matches the game world you're playing in, through status effects (light up red to indicate that you're in danger) to letting you know which direction you're being shot at from.
  • newegg Works with most Direct 3D games Provided the game you're playing works correctly with Direct 3D, even if it doesn't directly support amBX, the lights will still function. The included innovative effects generator software analyses the onscreen events and enables the lights to display the correct colour information to match, including basic left & right directionality.
  • newegg Surround lighting Add 2 or more lights for spatialized, directional lighting effects Fully amBX-enabled games can also be aware of a directional element to your games. By connecting more lights to your PC and positioning them around you, it's possible to set up lighting that responds correctly to the positional information in the game; walk past a torch on a dungeon wall in-game and watch as your lights correctly display that light source in the real world. Bring the game into your world.
  • newegg amBX isn't just for games Using various media players it's possible to achieve immersive ambient lighting effects with your music and video content too.

4 out of 5 eggsNifty mood lighting!

Pros: They add extra ambiance to games, movies, etc. It's like the experience can no longer be contained in the monitor and spills out over the sides!

Cons: Docked an egg for the price. As cool as they are, they're still basically fancy light bulbs and should be a lot cheaper considering how long they've been on the market now.

Other Thoughts: The hinged design provides near endless mounting possibilities. I have my hooked over the top of a multi-monitor frame on my monster gaming/work rig, just behind the screens. I'm seriously considering another pair for behind the big screen connected to my HTPC.

4 out of 5 eggsThe big Ragu

Pros: The learning curve to make these lights work with programs u use everyday is not that bad. Winamp.VLC,Powe DVD11 seem to work fine. Games are fun to play even more with mood lighting.

Cons: If only i could make it work with a browser. Netflix ,Hulu ,AmazonPryme are all browsers and light are not working with them YET. I will figure it out.

Other Thoughts: would by again

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well so far when you finally get it to work

Pros: Get light spread. Nice colors. Increases immersion or at least turns up the fun factor. I actually found myself missing the lights when i watch a movie and had them off. The Music is cool if not a bit too exciting with so much change up with the tempo. Small profile sits on top of my front book shelf speakers. Works well with my projector. You can add more for surround lighting. Expensive but compared to DIY, its not that expensive and easier to setup the hardware.

Cons: The first pair did not work but they were used. The default software is good but is lacking in many features. The Ambx software adds profiles automatically and you can't manually add your own. Not compatible with Foobar or Netflix with Ambx. Can't customize the colors for Music.

The Leds are slated to last for 20,000 hours which is less then 2 years so if you don't run it daily and it works for at least 4 years, that's still a fairly short investment for such a price. Hopefully, the Leds will be easy the change. Doesn't seem likely without some serious hacking. I guess i have to use it sparingly.

Other Thoughts: With driver and Ambx software update, things seem to work properly. I used Ambibox with Playclaw ($30) to support most things visible on the screen. You can also create profiles and assign hotkeys with Ambibox. It can be found on the Ambx forum and it works with Windows 8.1.

I haven't tried games yet but i don't see it working any different from Movies other then frame rate loss. I imagine it would have teh same impact as recording your game.

4 out of 5 eggsLights!!!

Pros: lights up great.... ads to gaming and also the pc experience.

Cons: Sometimes one just turns on and have to restart computer. doesnt work on dvd or media player. Also still cant figure out what software makes it act more cool for reacting to sound, like i have seen with same kit.

Other Thoughts: software kinda sucks :s

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome lighting!

Pros: Easy to install and set up. Has the ability to add more channels of lighting if you are willing to spend the money. Even works with non AMBX games.

Cons: Can't get it to work with netflix or my meida player. Not all software is compatible.

1 out of 5 eggsLoved them until...

Pros: Worked exactly as expected and totally enhanced gameplay!

Cons: One of them stopped working after 4 months!

Other Thoughts: I wrote the review on 9/24/12 and absolutely loved these things for the last 4 months. Until, one of them died on me! It will start flickering random colors during gameplay, get dimmer and then drop out all together. Unplugging its USB and replugging it worked for a month or so. But now it doesn't work for more than a few minutes. The other still works just fine, but for $100 and a supposedly promised 20,000 hours of use these things should still be going strong. Soo lame...if the company could provide me with a replacement I would probably even buy a second set because they really do enhance the experience! But this is unacceptable, buy at your own risk!

5 out of 5 eggsBeautiful, and surprisingly simple.

Pros: Installation: Quite an easy setup in my opinion just make sure you've got 2 open USB ports for the 2 lights, also the drivers + software took all of 10 mins, install then restart.

Music: Automatically installed a Media Player Plugin so music worked nice with the visualizer right off the bad, but still haven't figured out aurora synesthesia i keep hearing about.

Movies: I was very relieved as to how easy this was, i simply opened one of my blu-ray movies saved onto my computer with VLC and it just worked with absolutely no effort on my part. You do have to enable it in the Programs list with the ambx software though I believe like everything else.

Games: First thing I tried was skyrim.... ran it, ambx recognized, exited game and enabled in software, ran it again and it worked fine. And let me tell you its simply gorgeous, going through a dark cave, something as simple as passing a lit torch or fire just lights the the wall in a dark red/orange and its just so much more immersive i love it. Have also used it with far cry to the same effect.

I also enjoy the windows effects, for example when I unplug or plug in a usb device the lights (which are usually a soft white) blibk or strobe. Its a nice touch.

Overall I personally find these to be well worth the money because of how well they work with movies and games, makes movies sooo much better and games way more immersive.

If your into taking your gaming and movie experience and overall entertainment to the next level. These bad boys will do just that.

Cons: ummmmm i cant really think of any, the only thing would be a few games didnt work, such as guild wars, and minecraft. but then again you can still keep the default white on, which does reduce eyestrain so its not all that bad.

Other Thoughts: On a side note I had a buddy come over and play my modded skyrim ( looks amazing by itself) plus my surround sound headset, plus these lights....he had the time of his life, afterwards i asked him how he liked the lights, he said he didn't even notice they were on the whole time. Goes to show you how complementing to the game they actually are and if you were worried about them being distracting, well...there ya go.

3 out of 5 eggsVery cool, but....

Pros: - Bright
- Responsive
- Customizable
- Quality construction
- Looks awesome!

Cons: - Does not work with Guild Wars 2
- Lack of documentation and support
- Customization is tedious and complicated
- Poor software
- Overly expensive
- Lots of wires and each light takes a USB port

Other Thoughts: I picked up one set of these lights. This product is an awesome concept and definitely adds a premium feel to my desktop setup, when it works...

Sadly, very few developers have taken the time to code their software to take advantage of the AMDX hardware. The software included with the lights will provide generic illumination feedback based on an average of the colors on the screen for most games. But for plenty others, it simply doesn't recognize the program and the lights will go dark upon loading it.

The ability to set up a whopping 24 lights for full surround atmosphere is sweet, but at $100 a pair, also a bit ridiculous for something that seems to be experimental at best. If the price were cut in half I would probably buy another set despite my issues, because again, when they work...they look sweeet! =)

4 out of 5 eggsGood but came with troubles

Pros: awesome visually. the videos provided certainly give a feel for what these lights can do. truly an amazing experience

Cons: they are a bit expensive. they main problem i had was that my computer recognized that i had plugged in the lights but the software provided needed to recognize them plugged in to continue with the instillation. the problem was that the software would not recognize that they were plugged in at all. after a long trial and error i figured out what was wrong and fixed it. madcatz wanted me to ship them in, RMA, but that would not have fixed it.
