Polk Audio's new UltraFit Sports Headphone Series is a rethinking from the ground up of performance, comfort and durability-the three characteristics serious athletes need most in a pair of headphones. Serious music lovers too will value the UltraFit Series because of its undeniably impressive sonic performance.

The UltraFit 500 is our entry model and is designed to sit in the flange of your ear canal, while the ear piece hook insures a snug yet comfortable fit. The UltraFit 500 does not use in-line controls or a microphone, but has been designed to assure you of moderate noise suppression, so you're always aware of your environment. A short (14") cable, frees you to wear an MP3 player on a sleeve or collar for the utmost in hassle-free and tangle-free connections

UltraFit Series headphones 500 come with three cable length options, so you can wear your music device the way that works best for you. A long (41") cable enables you to wear your music player on your waist or pants pocket. The short (14") cable lets you to wear an iPod nano, iPod shuffle or other MP3 players on a t-shirt sleeve. While the headphone to 1st connector is for a shirt collar.

  • newegg Dynamic Balance Polymer Drivers and Ported Enclosure for High Performance Digital Sound Co-developed with the Johns Hopkins Center for Non-Destructive testing, Dynamic Balance is a design tool that enables the engineers to pinpoint the elements that negatively impact driver performance to carefully control materials, interfaces and geometries. UltraFit Sport Headphones employ dynamic drivers much like those in a full size speaker. They’re just a lot smaller. To meet the predetermined performance parameters, the engineers took the same care designing the drivers, even adding a discrete crossover filter to each driver to naturalize the high frequencies. And the UltraFit Sports Headphones are ported. There is the port (ear piece) you put in your ear. But the big deal is very small channels in the back of the driver enclosure, beneath the Polk logo. These are crucial to tuning the driver’s frequency response peaks. And that means a better sounding pair of headphones.
  • newegg Ultra Flexible Tangle-free Planar Audio Cable Round cables, always coiling up and twisting, are a constant source of annoyance because they get in the way of your workout. Eventually repetitive twisting means the cable will break or pull out at the end. The UltraFit’s planar design (with oxygen-free wire for better conductivity) completely eliminates coiling, so the headphone cables won’t tangle up during a workout, or when stored away. The planar design also eliminates micro-phonics, the tendency of an electronic device to turn a mechanical vibration into “noise,” which you would hear, in this case, through the headphones.
  • newegg Moisture Shield No headphone works well in a sweat bath of moisture. So Moisture Shield is added, a filter that provides two benefits. As a thin scrim on UltraFit 500 driver screen, the filter material resists moisture that could get to the driver; the headphones keep performing through strenuous activity. Moisture Shield also provides an acoustic barrier to help smooth frequency response.
  • newegg SecureFit Support You’re ready for your workout. You put on your headphones and get to work. The last thing you want is for an earpiece to fall out, instantly breaking your rhythm. SecureFit Support is a flexible ear hook that wraps around your ear, so the earpiece stays in place. With SecureFit Support, you’ll experience a snug yet comfortable fit; put your headphones on and forget about them.
  • newegg StrainGuard Sports headphones get a lot of abuse. UltraFit Sports Headphones have been designed with this in mind. Strainguard is a protective system that addresses the areas where sports headphones fail most often. A Kevlar core that houses the speaker wire provides extra tensile strength to prevent the wire from being pulled apart at common failure points. The other points of common failure in sports headphones are at transitional points between cable lengths and at connection points. In the UltraFit Series, all transitional connections are computer designed to strengthen the points where they fail most.
  • newegg Environmental Awareness Being aware of your surroundings is always important when you use a pair of headphones. In the gym, on the track or walking through the neighborhood, you want to be able to have a sense of what’s going on around you. The UltraFit 500 offers light to moderate levels of outside noise reduction.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible audio quality & comfort!

Pros: Styling

Cons: The ear fittings are uncomfortable, and the audio quality is worse than the free pair of ear buds you get from airlines!

1 out of 5 eggsVery Poor sounding headphones

Pros: I suppose you could say they fit well "after" you figure out exactly how to put them in your ears.

Cons: The sound was absolutely horrible. mid range on up just disappears even compared to cheap headphones. Bass is present but muffled. For laughs and giggles, we took off the little rubber pieces and just held the headphones close. mid range on up returned but it was very flat and hollow.

Other Thoughts: There are plenty of in ear headphones that sound much better. We had these for several hours and had to return them because of bad design and horrible sound. Again, I am just amazed the Polk actually put their name on this.

5 out of 5 eggsFinally, excellent headphone design!

Pros: I'm glad to have bought these headphones. Finally, someone understands the importance of design in making a high-quality, durable product. I read the reviews, but when they arrived today and I saw that the box came with a preview flap that held together with magnets, it set even higher expectations than I already had. I made my mind to always treat these with kid gloves. Here are the things I've noticed:
- the overear arm of the earbuds can flex to any position, but are fairly stiff at the same time
- the in-ear rubber thing requires 1 min in the mirror to get used to, non-triangle-support one provided, too
- having short and long connectors means less coiling of wires, and less fraying
- ribbon wire should prevent less wire twisting and fraying
- great audio quality, of course

I got Nike headphones for $35 1 year ago, which were actually pretty good, but I think the Polk Ultra-Fit 500 is my newest undisputed winner for best value. They take their product seriously, and it

Cons: Well, I've had them for less than an hour, so I can't comment on durability from experience. But even so, headphones usually die a death from fraying where the wire meets the stiff sheath of the plug. Given the design I've seen so far, I'm expecting it won't be an issue.

2 out of 5 eggsBroken after only 6 months

Pros: Very comfortable in ear design. Nice long cord and secure fit with great sound, and as a nice side bonus they never seem to tangle. You pay a premium for these headphones and if you don't put them through their paces they're likely going to make you happy for a very long time but if you run with these long enough they break the same as cheap pairs. These didn't even last a year and I wouldn't consider my use of them even close to aggressive.

Cons: After using these for six months the long cord has a break that causes the sound to cut in and out. I went searching for replacement cords but it looks like if i want to get them functioning again I'm going to have to pay for a whole new pair.

Other Thoughts: These were a comfortable experience but not durable. I'm not likely to buy another pair again.

5 out of 5 eggsWell Designed

Pros: Finally, a company took the time to design sport earphones that stay in the ear, are comfortable, and sound great. Take your time to read the instructions to get a good fit. Then go exercise and forget they're in your ears.
Polk Audio has been a leader in sound quality for years. Their new line of sport earphones are well thought out and designed. All of the features work well to provide a great pair of headphones that are comfortable and safe to work-out with. The sound quality is great. The highs and mid-ranges are clear with good bass.
I've tried different styles of headphones for workin-out, and none have worked as well or sounded as good as my Polk Audio.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsWorth Every Penny!

Pros: The ear pieces are very comfortable soft rubber. It seemed to direct the audio into my ear canal like no other earphones I have ever used. The bass is magnificent and loud! The audio quality was second to none!

Cons: The ribbon cable is not the easiest to manage but it seems durable though. The short cable was too short and long cable too long for my use. I like to clip my cell phone to my waist band and listen to Pandora when I exercise. I was able to find a way to manage the long cable though. Other than that I had no issues.

Other Thoughts: I am not an audiophile but someone who like their music to sound good. This set of earphones really impress me and I am 100% satisfied with my purchase!
