This Lite-On 20x LH-20A1L drive writes 4.7GB of data in about 5.5 minutes to DVD+R, and supports all DVD formats. Great Buy
- Pros: Fast, cheap, black, and works as advertised. I haven't burned a bad disc yet (out of 50 or so) and the Lightscribe really impresses the ladies.
- Cons: You have to hear it to believe how loud it is when it burns (thus 4 stars), but normal operation, including DVD/CD playing, is quiet.
- Other Thoughts: SATA is cool but shouldn't be a deal breaker if considering a different drive.
Quick, Versitile, Decent investiment
- Pros: 20X SATA, LScribe contrast good, pretty quiet for a 20X, DVD viewing dead silent. Good Backup DVD ripper, rips when other brands cannot. Pretty responsive drive
- Cons: Some Circular banding when lightscribing, nothing major - firmware updates will prob fix this. Lead-in times take a few seconds longer.
- Other Thoughts: Error correcting quality capability not as great as a Sammysung 162 or 182. BL02 Firmware, SATA interface is shared by this and your hard drives. If you are AntiVir scanning, torrent/P2P downloading while Inet Browsing, your drives are used constantly. It will kill your read buffers when burning. Turn off your HD consuming apps and no problems!.... BurnProof Mech works great. 16X on Verbat+R media. 18X on S*ny D21 +R media. Still looking for a 20X.

- Pros: fast
- Cons: some times will not slowes down computer and have to unplug it some times winxp does not see it and have to re boot unplug boot plugin reboot

Great ODD
- Pros: Bought two of these, one for my HTPC and one for my main box. SATA connection is very nice, far less clutter than using PATA ribbons. Burns DVDs and CDs very quick, hasn't produced one coaster yet after ~100 cd burns and ~40 dvd burns. Best drive I've bought in a long time, most of the drives I've bought in the past couple of years die after a month or two (LG, Samsung) but these keep rockin. It's only audible when spinning up, but who cares it only does that when you insert a disk, boot up, or access the drive. My machine is very quiet and I barely hear the drive spinning up with it under my desk. Maybe all the complainants have their towers on their desks. Or maybe they're too uptight.

- Other Thoughts: Haven't used the Lightscribe option.
Just. Good.
- Pros: Great drive. Reads and writes well. Great price.
- Cons: Tried Lightscribe ONCE. Did not come out right AT ALL. Do not know what is wrong and I did not try to fix the problem yet. It has been about 5 months since this event. Probably firmware problems or worse yet, hardware problems that I have yet to uncover.
