This CD-RW drive from Lite-On features read and write speeds of 52X, and reads DVD-ROM at 16X. The drive uses Smart-Burn technology, which automatically varies the drive speed according to the media in use, and checks the quality of the finished media, so you get working copies, not coasters. Playback is just as reliable with Smart-X high-performance DAE, VCD, and DVD data extraction ensuring smooth, stable playback.

Pros: This Drive works well and is SHORT so it will fit in my Powermac G4 and give me a little extra space to route cables.

Other Thoughts: The drive sits a little bit behind the metal Caddy in my powermac G4 so it takes a bit of attention and care to get the IDE cable in

You get what you pay for

Pros: Cheap

Cons: It reads and burns CD's ok, but when I put in a DVD, it thinks it's a blank DVD and tries to burn it. I went to the Lite On website to download the drivers hoping that would fix it (The English download site doesn't work so I had to find my way around the Chinese version) but it didn't help anything.

Other Thoughts: I'm going to buy from a more reputable brand next time, and soon because I need a DVD drive bad!

Pros: I've had good luck with these drives and have been buying them for a long time. I've had only one drive die on me out of about 20. These drives are short and will fit in those mini HP cases with a regular power supply instead of those mini-P/S.
