Cheap SATA drive!

Pros: Seriously, twenty some dollars for a SATA DVD burner? Not the quietest, but a great deal for the money!

Good drive, but...

Pros: Everything works

Cons: Like all LiteOn drives, the drive tray has a mind of its own. There's nothing more irritating than trying to open the drive to eject a disk or keep the tray open while LiteOn's firmware decides to close the tray when the computer is booting and I'm trying to remove a disk or put one in. LiteOn is the ONLY manufacturer that insists on doing this.

Other Thoughts: LiteOn needs to leave the tray controls ENTIRELY up to the user. THAT is why I'm taking off three eggs.

Several Issues

Pros: When the drive works, it works fast.

Cons: There seems to be issues with the firmware. This has nothing to do with Newegg. Contacted Lite On about an updated firmware and their tech support was not helpful at all. I wouldn't even bother contacting them.

There are several issues with the drive being placed in PIO mode in Windows even on a clean install. I have had the drive randomly not read the disc correctly on original media when just the day before it read it perfectly. Often times a reboot will not remedy this either. Lite On's tech support mentioned that they are aware of issues with this drive and there should be a firmware update shortly. Well that was 2 months ago and I got a different story from the tech I spoke to about this today.

Save yourself the hassle. Spent a little bit more and get a better drive. I have not had issue with Lite On previously until now.
