5 out of 5 eggsWorks with Macbook Air

Pros: -Single USB cable (doesn't require additional USB power cable or the two headed USB cables). I specifically needed an external DVD burner that used only 1 USB cable since my Macbook Air has only 2 USB ports and they are on opposite sides of the laptop, so most dual headed USB cables will not reach.

Cons: -None so far

Other Thoughts: I haven't owned this for long, but it did work with my Macbook Air on both the Windows 7 Boot Camp side and Mac OS X. It recognized my OS X 10.8 disc with no problems.

4 out of 5 eggsVery good Product

Pros: Truly plug n play - no installation necessary

After almost two weeks of heavy use, I'm very pleased with this product. It has performed many varied functions flawlessly.

Cons: None, really.

Some might consider the burn speed a little slow but it's plenty fast enough for my purposes. It takes about 20 minutes to burn 4.5 to 5 gigs of data.

Other Thoughts: As was previously stated by another customer, don't be put off by the low price. This is a solid, capable piece of equipment.

I'll review again after several weeks, or a few months of use.

Great job by NewEgg, too! I got the right item the first time and UPS delivered within 48 hours on the "guaranteed three day" delivery.

3 out of 5 eggsfails at burning dvds but has good points as well

Pros: A VERY EXCELLENT EXTERNAL BACK UP DRIVE HANDS DOWN..

Cons: HASN'T BURNT A DISC THAT WORKED AT ALL. THE LIGHTSCRIBE WORKS ABOUT HALF THE TIME BUT MAYBE CAUSE OF THE DISCS AS WELL.

Other Thoughts: OVERALL I THINK IT'S GOOD BECAUSE WHEN IT FAILS IN ONE ASPECT IT'S GREAT IN ANOTHER. I CAN USE IT TO COPY DISC TO DISC NO PROBLEM AND IF YOU EVER NEED TO LOAD SOFTWARE DISCS ONTO A NETBOOK THIS DRIVE WILL GET IT DONE. MAYBE I GOT A DUD BUT IT HAS ITS PROS AS WELL AS CONS.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what it's supposed to

Pros: It's cheap. Why pay $50+ for a lightscribe drive when you can get one for this price?

It's small. It fits in my pocket. It is USB powered. It's light.

It has a tiny usb cable. Yes, everyone seems to think this is a con, but tiny usb cables are awesome for portable setups. If you don't like that, it is a standard Mini-B cable, which all of us probably have 4-5 hundred of (if not, pay an extra $2, and you can buy one)...but the small ones are awesome, and this one fits on the back of the drive. GREAT traveling drive.

Cons: It only burns CD's at 24x. Mildly slower than other drives, which can usually burn at 48-52x. Means I have to wait an extra minute for a CD. Woot.

Other Thoughts: It's a simple, small, elegant drive that does exactly what it's supposed to. It probably won't survive a 5' fall. It isn't gonna last forever. It's not a super drive of awesomeness. But it's cheap. It works. It's tiny.

Is it the best, most awesome thing since sliced bread? Nope. But it does everything it claims to do, well, and so it's totally worth the buy.

3 out of 5 eggsWorked great.. until OS upgrade

Pros: It worked great, and was loving the Lightscribe feature, until I upgraded to Snow Leopard.

Cons: After upgrade blank DVDs won't show up. DVD burner itself shows up in Disk Utility, but never recognizes a blank DVD, or actually freezes Disk Utility when blank DVD is inserted. I'll keep trying to get it work. I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed.

3 out of 5 eggsIs ok.

Pros: Small, light, compact and it will works fine.
I am using a 3 1/2 foot cable from a camera now and it works good with it.

If you can afford it, pay another $20-$30 more and you will get something better.

Cons: Cable is short, but this could be pro as well a con. It is a little slow transferring data.
Cheaply made and lid is flimsy.
I had problems getting the software loaded from this drive unto the PC.
This is what I had to do to load the software on a ACER.
go to Controll Panel. Performance & Maintenance, System, Hardware, Device Manager, click on + DVD/CD-ROM drives, double click on Slimtype eTAU2008 2USB Device, click on details, double click on USBTOR/CD ROM.......on box below and follow your installation process.

Other Thoughts: Even though it works fine for me, I would not not recommend this to someone else, because it is lacking of quality.

I guess you get what you pay for it.
This is not a Newegg fault, but a manufacturer fault.

5 out of 5 eggsworks fine

Pros: low profile, lightweight, easy installation on OS X(just plugged it in). has worked perfectly thus far

Cons: the packaged USB cable is short. the reviews said it was short. It is ridiculously short. 3-4 inches. although I'm using it on an imac and it's the perfect length(but I'd still say it's a con)

Other Thoughts: the superdrive on my imac went out so rather than replace it with an internal and open it up again(I had HDD failure about 6 months ago) I decided to just go with an external. this vaguely matches my imac and works fine.
