Pros: Very quiet, high qual build and look, fast reading. Optiarc firmware updates (both official and mod'ed firmware) are much easier to obtain than other brands.

Other Thoughts: The burner came preset as a Master drive so if your laptop requires a slave drive, you can contact SONY/NEC Optiarc at service@eu.sonynec-optiarc.com and ask for the Master/Slave tool. They'll send you a file named "G590A_ATAChange_Tool.ZIP" which is then used with an IDE-to-Slim drive adapter (costs a few bucks, Google it) to change the drive from Master to Slave and vice versa. (It took ~ 24hr for them to reply my email request with the tool file & instructions.) The stock firmware is v1.01 which will do auto-bitsetting on +R DL only. Because the Egg doesn't allow outside links, I can't post a link here so please Google "liggy's AD-7590A bitsetting firmware" to get mod'ed firmware for autobitsetting on both SL + DL and riplock/region removal for the drive [flash @ your own risk :)]. Burn quality is very good (scanned with DVDInfo Pro). It could burn all media I tried including the cheapo Office Depot ones :D .

Pros: Posted a "wait and see" review 3 months ago.I've used it a lot since then with no issues at all.It smokes the SLOOOOOW oem drive my Toshiba A75-S226 P4 3.06HT laptop came with.Love da drive...
Cons: NONE..!!
Other Thoughts: Please take note:Some Toshiba laptops require a firmware reflash to recognize this drive.THANKFULLY,mine did not.Google the drive and you'll find plenty of info.Don't blame the drive,blame Toshiba!!

Pros: Product fitted my existing bezel perfect. Installed Burner and started using it without having to download anything. MY OS is XP.
Cons: Can't think of any
Other Thoughts: I hope this one lasts longer than all my other DVD/CD burners. All the other ones lasted 1 to 1 1/2 year.

Pros: Installed flawlessly
Cons: DOA, Drive was packaged in a manila envelope with no padding. The drive bezel was partially snapped off and the ribbon cable attaching the laser was popping up to where it touched the disk while spinning at some points. The drive made clicking noises, it tried to burn but wouldn't, and somewhat read intermittently for the first few tries and then quit.
Other Thoughts: Acer Aspire laptop, Windows Vista Business 32 bit edition.
Will re-review when replacement is recieved.
As usual newegg was prompt to issue RMA and was easy to deal with.

Pros: Replacement for a Optiarc DVD drive on my daughters Acer laptop (5516) that lasted all of about nine month. The old drive would play movies but wouldn't install the simplest programs or even format a DVD. The screw that holds this drive in place is under that cover that has the cooling vents in it. Remove those two screws and take the holding bracket off your old drive and put it on your new drive and your good to go.
Cons: Works so far.
Other Thoughts: Not real thrilled about going back with another Sony--I think their quality is in the dumpster but I wanted an exact fit and quick fix. We shall see.........
