2 out of 5 eggsDead after 5 Months

Pros: No writing on the front looks great, slot loading! Inexpensive and looks good for ITX builds.

Cons: Does not fit in Silverstone cases without a gap around it, rather noisy. DIED AFTER 5 MONTHS.

Other Thoughts: Sony quality is not what it used to be!

4 out of 5 eggsNewegg customer service is awesome! This drive is almost perfect!

Pros: Slim, all business, no bull. Push the CD 5\8 the way in, it sucks it in the rest of the way. Hooked it to a miniITX motherboard via SATA Slimline connector (newegg # N82E16812200374) and it worked with a copy of windows tiny7 without loading any drivers. perfect.

Cons: The drive is kind of noisy, its to be extpected moving at such high RPM and small chassis, but the big problem is if you are not planning on having this in a laptop, there are no mounting screw holes anywhere so that this can be secured to anything else. Im going to have to fabricate my own housing for this to slide into for my car computer. The only reason for 4 stars is that its a little louder than i expected and i dont have any screw holes anywhere :)

Other Thoughts: Newegg shipped my first order, and it never got to my house. I live on a very busy street (22nd st in virginia beach) and there are a LOT of tourists and locals on the sidewalk out front. I think it may have gotten swiped, but who knows. I filed a lost package claim, newegg refunded me the money and i replaced my order within the same three days. Newegg is awesome.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Quality and Price

Pros: Sony makes good quality items so buying this unit ensures me that I have a sturdy and well built product. Unit is quiet operating nice and slim pulls cd at more than halfway and nice quick ejecting and loading. Great for HTPC build in a nice slim case.

Cons: none so far.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This drive installed pretty easily, although you have to be very careful not to screw the tiny screws in to tight or they will get in the way of the disc. So far so good...only dropped an egg for the slower read/write speeds which are typical of these slim drives.

Cons: None so far...just a little slow trying to burn a disc.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Slimline Slotload

Pros: Wanted a slot loading DVD burner for the iTX build and went with this one in the end. I wanted slot loading since the iTX case will be vertical and trays are clumsy in that situation. I LOVE that you have to insert the disc 80% of the way in before it grabs it. This way you can rest a disc without it actually being spun up. There's many ways this is useful when multitasking and just queueing up a disc.

It spits out the disc fully though...so there's that.

I don't find it loud at all, but that's relative. It's the loudest thing in this iTX build, but it's also pretty much the only moving part in it.

Cons: I have to nitpick to find something wrong, but it's just 8x (which is advertised and expected). Maybe I'm spoiled on 22x full sized burners, but a full DVD-R burn felt like it took forever.

I'd say it's fast enough, but the lead-out period just took too long compared to the data write as a whole. Lead-in/Lead-out was 20% (or so) of the entire burn time.

Sony seems to have a weird idea of "black". If you're picky about color, this drive is very dark gray and more than likely won't match any other vendor's black. My case has a cover and really doesn't bug me aesthetically.

I would NOT buy this if you have a tower of any kind, even with a cool bay adapter. It's twice the cost of a very good full sized burner and we pay in performance and monetarily because it's small and we need it.

Other Thoughts: Doesn't say or picture that it comes with a slimline-to-Sata adapter, so don't expect one. There's several out there but the most clean adapter IMO is StarTech's "SLSATAADAP" (Newegg item N82E16812200470).

I'm using this in an Antec ISK-150 with that StarTech adapter and it's VERY tight on the connector end. It works with the adapter tilted to the side but still runs just fine. A little Dremel work for a 1/4" notch in the bay and a 90° S/ATA cord works great on that end.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks, some quirks

Pros: Slot-load (obviously).

Fits the Norco RPC-4220 like a glove.

Drive works, and is the best price for a slot-load I've found.

Cons: None that I could find.

Other Thoughts: Screw holes are not at same height on each side, therefore wont fit my 3.25 bay converters. This could be standard, I'm not well experienced with slim dvd drives.

1 out of 5 eggsnot long lasting

Pros: fit quite nicely in my lian-li slimdrive adapter in my htpc.
cool slot load dvd drive.

Cons: even though i've had this drive well over a year, it didn't get used much. maybe 4 or 5 dvd burns and maybe a dozen movies played on it (if that much). soddenly it started making noises when the pc was powered on. then it quit loading disks. i always expect the smaller, tighter tolerance hardware to fail faster than the beefier desktop stuff, but this was ridiculous.

Other Thoughts: no more sony slot load drives for me. they cost too much to only last long enough to watch a few movies.

5 out of 5 eggsA bit noisy, otherwise great

Pros: OSX compatible, reliable, it just works

Cons: Like all slimline slot loading drives, it's a bit noisy

Other Thoughts: Just know what to expect before you buy, then you'll be happy.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice

Pros: Fits nicely in my Antic ISK-65 case. Drive is very quiet and works well.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: You will probably need the slimline sata connector for this drive depending on your case power supply. Here is the NewEgg item number N82E16812200374
