The Pioneer DVR-215DBK DVD/CD Writer supports 20X write speed on DVD-R/+R media, and 10x speed on DVD-R/+R dual/double layer media. In dual-layer format, a single DVD will hold 8.5 GB of data. This SATA-interface drive gives you reliable writing with a 2 MB buffer, buffer under-run protection, and automatic adjustment of write speed according to media type to ensure that you're burning useable media, not coasters.
Pioneer's Liquid Crystal Tilt/Blur Compensator adjusts automatically for recording on and playback from warped disc surfaces. Pioneer thought of everything you'll need to make the most out of your disc-based media!

Nforce4 SATA problem
- Pros: Installs in a snap, quite, fast, very quiet, and pleasure to use, burns DVDs,CD's at max. high speeds no problem (using Nero 7 Ultra software) have used more than one manufacturer's disks with no problems. Would of given it a 4 due to the pain of finding new SATA drivers to enable it to work with Vista/ see Cons, but really not fault of drive as believe this would be the same with any combo of SATA burner and this MB running Vista so gave it a 5.
- Cons: Problem with AN8-SLI/Nforce4 MB running Vista Home 32-bit, works fine with XP (Removable Drive Trays so Multi- OS) but with Vista Home you have to update SATA Drivers otherwise the drive remains unseen thus unuse-able.
Once update is done, drive is seen and works with no problems, and update is a little of a pain.
- Other Thoughts: Not really a con, more of a concern there is no firmware listed for this product from Pioneer, so first thought that comes to mind are they planning to provide support for this drive?
SATA interface seems a little faster than old IDE, but maybe its just that I expect it to be :)
Excellent
- Pros: This DVD Burner is awsome. It is very quite, at times when I am listening to a CD or watching a DVD I wonder if the drive is even on! It also burns realy fast too. I burned 4.3GB of stuff to a blank DVD, and it only took one minute. Because of how fast it reads CD/DVDs, it makes installing those games that have 4 or 5 discs to them a breeze. I also have the IDE version of this drive and it works just as perfecet as thise one, and I have had it for over a year and it has not lost its touch.
- Cons: This could be just a con for the motherboard I first tried it on, but I do think that it is not compatible with SATA II 1.5Gb/s interface. But then again, the motherboard did not have the best BIOS in it.
Other than the issue obove, I can not find one.

Great DVD Burner
- Pros: It's SATA, It's fast, It burns media well. Of course, after a DVD burner nears 4 years old, anything tends to work better. I always liked Pioneer products. Quite as well, depending on how well its mounted in the case.
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: A step up from IDE to SATA seemed to be what I needed. I like to watch DVD's on my computer since I have a 24" WS LCD. When I used IDE, the screen would seem really jittery and scan lines were seen often with scenes of movement and panning. When I received this drive, the first thing I tested was DVD playback. Now everything plays perfectly. This also reads most of the newer encryption methods which means It can play the newer DVDs.
Some People complained about noise. Of course when a CD Spins up at 40 revolutions per second, it can sound a little loud, but I have not noticed it at all, even at 40x! Just make sure its mounted in the case well and it will not bother you. Take it from a person who's computer is about 24 inches away from him.
Good Drive
- Pros: Burns anything I throw at it(with necessary software of course)
- Cons: a little noisy
FAST READING AND WRITING!
- Pros: Very quiet and SUPER FAST. It wrote a full single layer DVD with 4.5 gb on it... IN LESS THAN 4 MINUTES!!!
- Cons: It emits over 0db... like maybe .00001db...
- Other Thoughts: I reccomend it! I am planning on buying a second one because of how good it is :)
