Cannot write dvd+r DL at 2.4x and slow at detecting original dvd movie and game discs

Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: It does work, kinda.
Cons: It takes a long time to detect and read standard dvd movies and games. It cannot write at 2.4x to verbatim DL media, it defaults to 4x no matter what you select so it's not good for xbox 360 people and this is the main reason I bought the new pioneer in the first place.
Other Thoughts: I RMAed mine and i'm going to get a different brand.

POOREST Pioneer prodcut! Utter disgrace.
Reviewed By: sigmaxix on 10/11/2009
Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: It was able to burn some disks when received... At a lower quality than any previous Pioneer.
Cons: -Over 1 minute to view ANY factory-pressed disk from insertion! Unacceptable! -No firmware update! -Mediatek Chipset!?! EVERY previous Pioneer used NEC. -Does NOT write at the quality of DVR-217, DVR-216, etc. -Pioneer RMA takes 3-4weeks because "backlog".
Other Thoughts: For the past 4+ years I have used Pioneer DVD burners. Every enthusiast has known their high burn quality and excellent workmanship.
NOW, a complete BAIT & SWITCH by Pioneer- now using GENERIC Mediatek chipset! It's a totally different drive than EVERY previous Pioneer!
Works horrible! MINUTES to even access a factory disk from insertion [CRYSIS, CRYSIS WARS, WINDOWS, DVD MOVIES]. HORRENDOUS boot-up lag when trying to boot a Windows Install.
Only buy DVR-217 and prior Pioneer drives. You'll notice those cost over $75 on the few online stores that carry them. You can also buy the NEW Pioneer BDR-203 or BDR-2203 blu-ray disk writers. They are known to still have the trademark Pioneer quality in burning. ***DO NOT BUY THE DVR-218***
I returned this to NEWEGG after a week of calling and e-mailing Pioneer. I read dozens of similar reports people have with this BAD DRIVE that I did not pay attention to before my purchase.
THANK YOU NEWEGG FOR FLAWLESS RETURN!
