Noise suppression: The disc tray structure and the inside of the BDR-2207
have been redesigned to control the air flow and smoothen its circulation within
the drive to greatly reduce noise.

Anti-dust: the sound barrier design that traps noise inside also works to keep
dust outside. Approximately four times the dust durability of previous models.

Auto quiet operation: the drive monitors how it is being used and will adjust
its disc rotation speed automatically, High speed for data transfer, and low
speed for audio and movie playback.

Precision writing: the newly designed top chassis makes air flow caused by the
high speed disc rotation to press the disc just right to maximize disc stability.

Pure read: allows for accurate recreation of audio on an audio cd by
automatically adjusting the drive parameters to minimize sound discrepancy
(audio glitches).

Peak Power Reducer: in the case where the PC does not supply enough power
to the drive, the drive can reduce its peak power to ensure stable operation.

Watch 3D movies
The BDR-2207 is 3D compatible and comes bundled with 3D playback software.

5 out of 5 eggsAwsome!!

Pros: Wide media support (including BDXL)
Fast media detection
Advanced features like Pure Read
Will play Blu-ray 3D disc (must have other 3D hardware also)
Nice Cyberlink software included

Cons: No LightScribe

Other Thoughts: I have burned many Blu-ray/DVD disc without a problem. This drive starts to read disc so much faster than my older DVD-RW, and it is so quiet even when reading a data CD at 40x. The light scribe is not a big deal; I have second drive that does that.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Burner

Pros: Bundled Software - Hard to beat free DVD/BluRay Player
Fast burner - No coasters for either BD or DVD - Total of 10 DVD, 1 BD 25Gig

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Was worried with what problems other reviewers were having, but haven't had or seen any problems yet.

5 out of 5 eggsa driving force :-P

Pros: EXCELLENT bundled software - CyberLink Media Suite goes for about the same price as the drive (so is essentially free) but is so much better than Nero or Roxio which are garbage
Handles ANY format you can throw at it
fast ... enough and fairly quiet

Cons: boring styling - I installed this in a clear case and it is the least aesthetic object, even the PSU cables look more appealing so I put stickers on it. How about different color faceplates or something

Other Thoughts: With drives slowly becoming obsolete, the selection is not that broad but this manages to adequately handle any format thrown at it.
When playing blurays it will not be whisper quiet but if that was a requirement you oughta get a PS3 or bluray player

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great for me

Pros: Not a hitch. Was a little worried about buying a BDR drive after reading all the reports of incompatibility and bad burns. Have burned over 30 blu-ray and many DVD disks and not one coaster so far. Also comes with Power DVD software which evens out the price of the drive.

Cons: A little pricey but when you figure in the software it is a great deal.

Other Thoughts: I would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor BD movie compatibility

Pros: Tech specs are great.
Looks great.

Cons: Poor BD movie compatibility.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace my BDR-205BK. And I have done that for one minor and one huge reason.

Minor one was that BDR-205 tray started to get stuck, if you have not used the drive for a while. Pressing the button would not open the tray (several attempts required).

The huge one was that it could not read Merlin Season 4 blu-rays. I figured the drive was dying and since I was more than satisfied with Pioneer (used it for many years and burned plenty of CD, DVD and BD), I decided to upgrade to the lastest and greatest. Did not help. BDR-2207 could not recognize Merlin blu-ray any more than BDR-205.

Since it is not like we have tons of choices, I went with the other best drive: LiteOn iHBS312, which reads Merlin just fine and even PS3 disks.

I will keep BDR-2207, since it does support BD-XL, but I can only give it two eggs, since it is useless to me as a single drive.

I would suggest to avoid it, if you care about BD movies.

Pros: COLOR matches case

Cons: This drive only reads 30% of my Blu-Ray disc's & I own around 200 of them. I have older LG & LITEON Blu-Ray Drives that READ THEM ALL with no problem.
All of my Blu-Ray Disc's are in 100% BRAN NEW condition with NO fingerprints on them

By an LG or LITEON product instead.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Performing Drive

Pros: Very quiet, good performance, excellent burn quality.

BDR-2207 Retail kit comes with BD playback software.

Cons: none so far!

Other Thoughts: My previous burner was a Sony Optiarc BD-5300s. It started out with perfect burn quality and good performance. Less than a year after purchasing the Sony Optiarc, the burn quality slowly went down to the point where DVDs and Blu-rays were not playable in set top boxes. I have a Sony BWU-200S from 2007 that still burns DVDs & BDs with excellent burn quality.

FYI, I'm running quality scans with Nero DiscSpeed.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive.

Pros: Not much to say here, it is fast, quiet, and doesn't burn coasters as so many other BD burners do. It also comes with power DVD BLU RAY playback software, this is very important because the software alone generally costs around 70$. Without it you can't watch BR's from your drive.

Cons: Can't think of any. Price is a little high, but considering it comes with PowerDVD 10 I think the price is very justified. Most BR burners do not include it.

Other Thoughts: Great drive overall, very pleased with it.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst time Blue Ray use

Pros: Installed without a hitch and have already burned 10 Blu ray discs.
So far I am very pleased with this drive.

Cons: It's a little pricey.

Other Thoughts: I finally upgraded to a blue ray burner as an alternative to getting a new hard drive. Most of the HDDs on the market now that are 1TB and larger don't last any more than 2 years max (if that). I would rather protect my data on a format that doesn't have to depend on hardware longevity.
