4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: For it's price its works quite well. Burns DVD+R

Cons: I agree with some people, It sounds like a freaking jet plane. If it didn't sound like one, it would have gotten a 5.

Other Thoughts: Better quality than the HP dvdwriter 740 burner by Hitachi-LG DATA STORAGE. If you have a HP LightScribe, replace it immediately with this.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good when I got it to work

Cons: Wouldn't work right away with Vista, read on to find out how to fix it.

Other Thoughts: I have Microsoft Vista and this drive was not being detected. I did some research and this solved the problem. http://aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip

Download it, run it, and restart and the drive will now be detected.

3 out of 5 eggsThis is my third one since May 2007

Pros: I can't complain about the quality of the burns.Every copy I've made came out Very nice.

Cons: You never know when it's going to stop working and your computer won't boot.My first one was "dead on arival" The replacement lasted less than three months.I'm on my third one now and we'll see how long this one last.Sooner or later I'll get a good one.

Other Thoughts: Newegg has been awsome. They do stand behind every product they sell.My experience could have happened with any dvd burner on the market.

2 out of 5 eggsDead drive after a month of use

Pros: Didn't get enough time spent on this drive to get any pro's but I like the spec speeds it offered.

Cons: Was trying to install a game which started out fine but about 30 seconds into the install the device bursts into a loud noise and ejects the disc. When I say loud I'm talking like the drive slammed into a hammer. Now the drive needless to say doesn't work but I've since used an older drive which installed the game fine.

Other Thoughts: Two Worlds was the name of the game.

Pros: Burns DVD'S. Its fast. And it's cheap.

Cons: I had to buy DVD-R. So add that into the your cost. You still come out OK.

3 out of 5 eggsLoud, very loud

Pros: It does everything is supposed to.

Cons: It is extremely loud when reading and writing DVDs and CDs. Compared to my previous BenQ DW1620 it sounds like a plane about to take of.
I does not work with DVD-RAM

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy this

Pros: After two firmware changes it finally reads a disc now and then

Cons: I have tried a few different brands of R+ and R- discs and it starts to burn and then stops. Coasters 100%. I have two other burners in theis machine and they do quite well. Don't waste your money.

1 out of 5 eggsaw-q170A-b2 does not work well with vista

Pros: None

Cons: It is noisy and does not work well with vista - or so I think. It is able to read from a bootable vista DVD. But once I boot from the HDD and am using vista, CDs and DVDs don't worj reliably.
