Pros: Fast SATA Drive. Lightscribe works as advertised. Not even a hiccup when used with Nero 9.

Cons: None that I've found for the drive. Lightscribe takes forever to burn a label onto the disc (like almost 45 minutes for a label with a picture on it)

Other Thoughts: Save your money and pass on the Lightscribe.

Pros: Nice looking black finish blends nicely with my case, SATA, easy to install, no need for any drivers.

Cons: Noisier than my two previous Sony DVD and Sony CD burners. Crippled software bundle. Gone: InCD, Nero Burning ROM SE

Other Thoughts: I was willing to pay the extra dollars for this burner considering I was happy with the last two Sony burners that I have bought from my previous machines. Both my last Sony DVD burner and CD burner had InCD and the last DVD burner had EOM ROM burning software and basic backup software. Not anymore. I was previously able to create bootable DVD to flash bios, not anymore. Considering it cost twice as much as regular DVD burners you won't mind the price if you get useful software bundle, not this time. Don't buy this thinking you will get useful software/hardware combination, you won't. The Nero 8 installer uninstalled my existing Nero InCD software and all the other useful functionality from the previous Sony DVD burner/Nero 6 and installed the new crippled downgrade.

Other Thoughts: Just had a slight problem, if the windows cd-burning is enabled it may conflict with this drives light scribing. 5 disks later I figured that one out. Disable windows xp integrated cd recording on this drive.

Pros: Burns LightScribe DVD's easily. Burning of the DVD takes less then 5 min. Tested DVDs in a player that is very picky and would freeze on DVDs burned by my old burner. Never get any errors using HP lightScribe media. Never freezes on any player. Comes with trial version of nero 8. It's also not as loud and does not vibrate as much as many other burners. This is the best dvd burner money can buy. Fast and reliable. It installed smoothly, plugs felt firm. Great burner all around. I did not have to upgrade any firmware and the driver cd is only needed for the software. (will work without disk) Comes with screws, but no sata cable. I strongly recommend one with clips although this burner does vibrate less then many others.

Cons: the light is green when reading and writing. I like burners that are amber or orange for writing and green for reading. Makes no performance difference at all. Tray feels a little flimsy, but seems to work fine.

Other Thoughts: i takes 20 min to Lightscribe on the highest setting. I don't know if that's normal, but is seems like a while. I'm considering buying another junk brand drive that i wouldn't trust for burning just to lightscribe. I also wanted to note I am a professional Photog and editor. I burn DVDs for a living, and after using several different brand Sony is the only one that will burn an error free DVD every time. Sometimes the software says its ok, but when you go to play it in a low quality player it skips.....NOT with sony. I burn 16 x every time, never an error on validation by software, never an error when playing. All professionals should save there time error checking and just buy this burner. Paper labels cause problems playing in low end players. If you dont want to loose clients and want your dvds to play every where bu this burner NOW.
