Beige, beige, beige, beige!
- Pros: After immediately updating the firmware from Asus to 1.14, I burned a movie to DVD-R with Nero Recode. It was quick and quiet...and beige. It is getting hard to find beige drives for my beige computer. My mobo is Asus too, so that's a match, along with the beige case. I am kinda beige myself.
- Cons: None so far.
- Other Thoughts: When is beige coming back? This black period has to blow over sometime, right? I don't intend to burn Lightscribe disks, because they cost more, and they are not in color. My Epson printer prints DVs and CDs very nicely and I can get the printable disks for really cheap.

- Pros: Does the job right, everytime.

- Other Thoughts: I installed 2 of these 6 months ago and I use them a lot. I have not had a single problem with them. They play great, they burn great. I like these better than any other burner I've used, and I've used quite a few.

Won't read backup CDs
- Pros: Mine works fine but see cons.
- Cons: Has some sort of copyright protection firmware that prevents it from reading legal backup CDs (probably DVDs too). I prefer to use my backups so I can keep the originals as pristine as possible. Haven't researched updating the firmware or hacking the protection issue yet nor should I have to.
- Other Thoughts: AD-7200A (of which I now have four) reads the backups just fine. I don't blame Newegg (who rocks!) but now you know why this is one of the least expensive DVD burners.
Asus DVD Burner
- Pros: Burns great, I use color lightscribe CD's & DVD's when I burn disks. They look great when done. play back sounds good! Its a Quie.

- Pros: Quite affordable,has all the standard read,write formats and then some.
I have had a few Asus dvd burners,and they have held up pretty good for the most part.This is for an external dvd unit I am putting together my 2003 server,and whatever else I need it for;for the price,you can't beat it.
