3 out of 5 eggsStill going after all these years

Pros: Purchased the GH22NS30 on 2/21/2009 and it still works as a reader, albeit with great selectivity.

Cons: Where do I start?
The GH22NS30 has had just about every problem that has ever plagued the 21st century floppy drive, i.e., the DVD reader/burner. Would not open, would not write, would not read, noisy, and picky beyond belief.
I have a stack of coasters soooo high ... :(. They seem to be good for keeping the birds out of the fruit trees, ;).
I spent so much money getting premium quality DVDs, as well as the standard 'sale' DVDs. All wasted cuz LG et al sell junk.

Other Thoughts: This year, for unknown reason(s), the tray began to work as it was supposed to work and since the other DVD(an ASUS that is even worse than this LG) absolutely will not auto-open the tray I was forced into trying the LG again. I do not use it much but it currently is still usable at least for reading some DVD or CD.
I lost, presumably, all access to over 100 DVD backups I made so I could get the info off my HDD. Unless a new burner will read then I am just s* outta luck.

DVD are, without any doubt in my mind, no better than the floppy format. It does not matter how much storage there is if it cannot be used when it is needed. I've tried all well known brands and a few not so well known and THEY ALL FAIL. They are all just cheap crappola made to TAKE OUR MONEY ...just like the floppy disk drive(FDD) did(does?).
...whatever. Just like the floppy I am off to buy AYA to see if I can get access to and put all that data back onto a HDD or FLASHDRIVE where I can store it and actually get access to it without all the ** DVD Bulls!!!

Pros: It worked well for simple and less strenuous use.

Cons: It is moderately noisy during use and unfortunately, it stopped working after 3 years and I had to replace it.

1 out of 5 eggsA fine paperweight

Pros: - Easy installation

Cons: - Never worked (updating drivers did not help)

Other Thoughts: During the first few uses (less than 5, honestly...), it read DVDs and CDs. Eventually, it stopped functioning and I had to scavenge an old IDE DVD/CDROM drive from our older computer. Don't think the burn function ever worked, either. Not sure if this was due to an incompatibility with other components of the build or what, but this was basically useless out the gate.

4 out of 5 eggsNice CD/DVD burner

Pros: Nicely priced.

Handles all media and formats.

Excellent read and write speeds.

Reliable, almost never "coasters" a disc.

Durable, still working over 3 years later.

Cons: No LightScribe support.

No BluRay support.

Other Thoughts: These have been great drives, I've used several while they were in production and never had any issues. Always worked as expected.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat buy for the money

Pros: Does everything it is intended to do without fault. I don't have many things to say about a dvd burner as long as it's working properly, so based on that I'd say that this has been a great investment.

Cons: Can potentially get noisy at maximum operation, but then again, what burner in this price range doesn't?
