Are you tired of the printer on your desk not fitting in with the modern elegance of your office? Then pick up Samsung's ML-1630 personal monochrome laser printer. It is one of the smallest, and quietest, at only 45dBA, printers around.

Its size isn't a measure of its strength; it has a 5000 page per month duty cycle. It's surprisingly fast, too -- it can print up to 17ppm from its 100 sheet input tray. The first page comes out in 15 seconds from sleep mode.

The glossy black top cover has soft touch buttons and blue LED indicators than shine up from underneath giving the ML-1630 an elegant appearance. At 13.1'' x 14.8'' x 4.8'' it won't take up much room on your desk, but with as good as it looks you wouldn't mind anyway.

  • newegg Slim and Sleek Featuring a high-gloss piano finish and embedded Sapphire LEDs, the ultra-slim Samsung ML-1630 laser printer in dimensions of 13.1'' x 14.8'' x 4.8'' is an elegant add-on to your working space.
  • newegg Quiet Operation The Samsung ML-1630 laser printer operates at approximately 45dB, perfect for libraries, offices and other places requiring a quiet environment.
  • newegg Multiple Media Size Compatibility The Samsung ML-1630 laser printer provides wide compatibility with various paper sizes, including A4, A5, A6, Letter, Executive, ISO B5 and JIS B5, to fully meet your daily and business printing needs.

3 out of 5 eggsBroke After 13 Months

Pros: Absolutely gorgeous design. Super glossy piano black finish. Comes with special cleaning cloth. Easily setup as a network printer using D-Links Shareport Utility. Must have a D-Link router for that. I do love this printer. From all the negative reviews though, just because it's pretty doesn't mean it won't have issues.

Cons: Almost the day the 1 year warranty ran out I got a flashing red alert on the printer. Since it was a year I figured my starter toner cartridge was out. So I bought a replacement cartridge. Come to find out that flashing red light means the unit needs to be serviced and refuses to work. Now I'm out a printer and a brand new toner cartridge.

Other Thoughts: I purchased another yesterday primarily because I didn't want to be stuck with a brand new toner cartridge without a printer to use it in. During the year the unit worked it was very fast and printed everything with precision. It's like the thing had a time bomb in it that killed my printer as soon as the warranty ran out. One day it was printing fine the next it was completely disabled. I just about all but took the thing apart trying to figure out what was causing the issue. If it wasn't such an awesome looking and performing printer I'd hate Samsung right now. Buying another but this time with NewEgg's 2 year extended warranty. If it breaks anytime within 3 years NewEgg will replace it at no cost. Wish I would have done that the first time I bought it.

2 out of 5 eggsUniverse of Sadness

Pros: Looks nice
Flat surfaces are nice for stacking other things on

Functions properly ~20% of time

Other Thoughts: I hate this printer, this printer's mother, this printer's favorite vegetable...
The majority my print jobs end with me cursing and threatening to go office space on this printer. This is an infinite universe of sadness and non-existent paper jams.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Printer

Pros: Low profile, able to set monitor/etc on top, good on ink, fast printing, paper easy to load and doesn't need to be moved as to keep it from 'wilting' as you can find on top loaders

Cons: Output tray can get in the way, but I often use it as a shelf til I find I need to actually print :P

Other Thoughts: I mainly came to review since the printer has been such a nice machine. If you are tired of inkjets drying up or just not working, I recommend this printer. I print my color copies elsewhere so black only is not an issue for myself.

I've had no problems with paper jams as others have...but I only run maybe 20-30 sheets maybe? I've printed with some heavy weight paper and no issues either. Hopefully no issues do crop up as I see others have had problems with *knocks on wood*

4 out of 5 eggsLooks good, prints great. Not-so-great output tray

Pros: Unit installs easily, works quietly, prints sharply. Looks nice on a desk.

Cons: Input tray is small, but its a small printer.
Output tray is useless. It holds the paper just fine, but its VERY easy to knock out of place. Without the small clear output tray, paper just dumps out of unit.

Other Thoughts: Bang for buck factor is definitely here. If the unit sits on a desk that isn't often near humans chairs rolling by (unlike my desk) then its a dream. My only wish is that Samsung would have made the output tray collapsible like many HP printers.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little printer

Pros: This is a good looking, quiet, fairly quick printer. What more need be said. I've got the predecessor to this model, the SCX-4500, and have had it about a year now.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: @RoodgerDodger: If that cartridge you purchased is MICR ink, it will be heavier than a normal cart of the same size. It's infused with metal so that the characters can be read by a MICR check reader/sorter. You won't see any increased prints than you will with a plain toner cart of the same volume.

1 out of 5 eggsInfuriating

Pros: Nice looking printer, but unfortunately for me it ends there ...

Cons: A paper jam is pretty much guaranteed if printing more than 10 pages. Constant indication of paper jams afterwards, even after every last shred of paper has been removed from the printer. Loading paper is somewhat awkward; loading too much results in excessive jamming and too little results in the printer not properly retrieving the paper from the tray. In summary: paper jam city. I've had $40 inkjets more reliable than this ...

5 out of 5 eggsSmall and simple

Pros: Small, crisp, decent toner life.

Cons: Top opens so the small, front-access form factor is somewhat negated by being unable to put anything of consequence on it.

Other Thoughts: Bought it for my parents and it's been working without a hiccup.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Unreliable Printer

Pros: Small. Sleek looks.

Cons: This printer has been in for repair twice now for the same problem within 8 months.

Other Thoughts: I really wanted to like this printer due to its size and good looks, but the frequency with which it malfunctions is unacceptable. It is not worth the trouble
