5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I purchased this to add an optical out to a workstation/server motherboard that had no such output. It works perfectly. I've yet to use the other outputs/inputs that this thing offers but if you need an optical out for your system, this is the card to buy.

Cons: None

2 out of 5 eggsNot Usable

Pros: Nice setup idea. Daughter card lets you choose if you want to have more setup freedom.

Cons: Did not work with my system. I am not sure if it was my setups fault or the cards fault but it did not work.

Other Thoughts: My system consists of
Windows 8.1 pro
Gigabyte ga-78lmt-usb3
Hyper x Blu 4 gb ram ddr3 1333
And fx-8350
Coolermaster master silent pro 720
Coolermaster haf 912
Asus drw-24b1st/blk/b/as
EVGA superclocked 02G-P4-2662-KR

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Perhaps the drivers for the card were not installed properly by the system.

Uninstall the device and the drivers. Once completed manually install the drivers for the card.

Also check that your motherboard/BIOS is up-to-date and, that any system updates have been applied.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat, cheap way to add sound

Pros: Very small form factor, PC-e 1x slot requirement, and supported with Linux kernel 2.6.30

I got this card to put in an HP DL360 G5 running CentOS 6.4 KVM. There were no issue with the card itself fitting or aligning properly, kernel picked it up, auto loaded the modules and started ALSA.

My KVM guests now have full sound through VNC and SPICE.

Cons: It wasn't free
Daughter board for additional ports is a little annoying if you need those

Other Thoughts: YES it works in Linux, NO you don't need the driver CD.

5 out of 5 eggsOld Systems Guy

Pros: Great Digital Card and incredible price! I bought this to eliminate the hum induced between my htpc and amp. I was hearing lots of hum on the analog line from the integrated sound card and tried several things to eliminate it(chokes, shielding, etc.). The only solution was a digital connection. THIS WORKS GREAT like any digital connection but at this price its incredible. I have a 7.1 amp and yes, most of the output I hear through this card is .........stereo........because the source material coming from pc is ..........stereo. The card just sends what its passed. I don't expect it to do any less or more......and therefore.... I'm happy with it. 2 thumbs up SYBA!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Don't expect this card to "generate" 5.1 sound from a stereo source and you'll be happy with it.

This is the third SYBA product I've bought. All are better than expected quality products at incredible prices.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Inexpensive

Cons: Too basic, software clunky. After getting everything loaded the Toslink input failed to work, kept saying input level too high, although I did manage to get a single track recorded

Other Thoughts: Would probably be fine for regular sound card duty

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Perhaps the drivers were not installed proeprly by the system.

The drivers for the card may need to be installed manually to ensure optimal results.

Try using a different cable when connecting to the card and ensure the connection if firmly seated.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Value

Pros: Daughter card. Crystal clear sound. Stable. Plug n Play in Linux and Windows. Price is reasonable. No Pop noise. Excellent audio controller.

Cons: Not a huge con but the instructions are not correct if I recall correctly... this may confuse a novice. It just made me chuckle.

Other Thoughts: I installed on my new test rig which is a mATX SuperMicro server board that has no integrated sound. Not sure why some users are having issues on Windows 8. It worked on both the evaluation versions of W8 and W8.1, automatically recognizing it. eComStation (OS/2) automatically recognized it as universal audio driver and produced admirable sound. Linux MInt (Ubuntu and Debian versions) worked out of the gate, no configuration required. I had to configure it in Arch and Slackware but that was expected but super easy for a regular Linux user.

I tried the software on the Windows side, it was fine if your into that but I find it unnecessary but still a value since it's offered for free. Some users like finite control and it does offer that and seemed to be stable and use very little resources.

I prefer VIA over Realtek as they seem to work better for me on legacy operating systems. I still develop or update applications for some older OS's like OS/2 or Slackware Linux. I love to listen to internet radio as I work. This was just the ticket for me and the sound is way better than integrated when hooked up to my Edifier S550 system. Amazing clear audio.

1 out of 5 eggsOh hey - digital out is worthless

Pros: It has not set fire to the hues

Cons: So, I guess the Optical digital out does not support 5.1 sound. Good to know - since that's the only reason I wasted $20 on this stupid card.

Of course, you can see this is a common complaint and common misinformation SYBA has given out. No more products from SYBA - ever!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

A current majority of sound controller cards on the market do not support 5.1 sound through optical.

The specifications for this card have only mentioned 7.1 sound support through an analog line.

Please feel free to contact us @ sybausa.com if you require further assistance.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked for a little while

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: Useless drivers and controller program

Other Thoughts: I plugged my Tritton AX720's in and it worked fine for about a week. When I unplugged them to use on something else and tried to plug them back in, I got no sound to the optical out. When I tried to open up the controller program all of the buttons were just question marks, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. That worked fine for about an hour until i turned my pc off. When I turned it back on surprise! No optical audio, so I go to open the program and whadya know? It won't even open, so now two weeks later i'm sitting on this useless card, and looking to buy a new sound card that actually works. This is my first time buying a syba product and it's for sure the last.

2 out of 5 eggsnot quite junk...

Pros: not complete garbage

Cons: 99% garbage

Other Thoughts: This card is alluring at face value-
Its cheap, fits in a small slot, and has an optical out.

Well, it has an optical out, but it doesnt do anything useful. For whatever reason, the optical ports on this card only support stereo. One of the manufacture's replies claims that this is the case, but i did not see it before, and i dont see it now, so

THE OPTICAL PORT DOES NOT SUPPORT SURROUND SOUND.

THE OPTICAL PORT ONLY SUPPORTS STEREO.

since this is the case, there is really no reason to buy this product, you can get much cheaper usb solutions for audio. oh, and their tech support is a joke too. If you have trouble with this brand, dont expect them to have any more knowledge than you do about how a sound card is supposed to work.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Currently majority Sound controller cards on the market do not support Surround Sound though Optical S/PDIF.

Perhaps you may need research more about a product before purchasing it.

There is also a possiblity you were answered by the wrong department. Ourt Techical support team is qualified to answer questions and provide information on all of our products at request.
