4 out of 5 eggsNot so hot for Macro

Pros: Battery life seems good. 250 shots over 6 months and batteries are still fine. Doesn't eat batteries just sitting there. Fairly light weight, turns on fast, easy to whip out and shoot, only limited by focusing time. Zoom length is great (but not as much as its replacement, the SX30 @ 35X)

Cons: Has a terrible time focusing in macro in natural indoor light, constantly going in and out while it hunts for that perfect focus spot. I tried to take a pic of a miniature scene from 6" through 36", and never got the camera to stop focus-hunting. Past about 3' or so, seems fine. Low-light focus also might take time. Doesn't shoot sunsets in auto mode as well as my Mom's 5yr-old Kodak 5mp/5x zoom camera (which does eat batteries just sitting there)

Other Thoughts: I guess I bought this too soon. I had no idea Canon was going to replace it so fast and move on as if it never existed-- Newegg, too! Waiting a couple of months would have brought the SX30 for the same price.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat in Broad Daylight

Pros: Simple daylight shots in program mode seemed fine. The fact that any information you need regarding the operation is tucked away on a CD is a definite drawback. Newegg was great in taking this back without incident so I will definitely try this again with another model.

Cons: I found indoor situations or distance situations difficult to focus correctly. The pictures were grainy and frankly I bought this type of camera to get high end results in a point and shoot format. I have a small another point and shoot that only has a 3X zoom so I wanted a greater zoom, but that camera outperformed this in low light situations. There is no "available light" setting so it always was looking for a flash assistance.

Other Thoughts: The camera also seemed to set the resolution on it's own. I could not figure that out but even with the lower rez and using a high speed (data transfer) memory card I always got a "please wait" after taking a shot so there was no opportunity for continues shooting.

2 out of 5 eggsCamera not for me

Pros: The 20x zoom is capable of getting shots that would otherwise be missed. The battery life is outstanding. It has a good solid feel to it.My wife loves the camera and I bought it for her.

Cons: I know its not fair to compare this 400 dollar camera to my 1200 dollar Nikon D90 but I have to say I have not seen one photo from this camera that is super sharp. The auto focus is just not there. The photos just lack too much detail for my likes.I have taken hundreds of photos on all settings and my wife has taken a couple of thousand photos and not one photo has impressed me except the long range telephoto shots and even those are very grainy.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a camera that will take very sharp and detailed photos keep looking. If you will be satisfied like my wife just taking snap shots and long range shots that are very grainy, than I guess this camera will meet your needs.

4 out of 5 eggsNo completely satisified

Pros: Camera does everything that I wanted plus so much more. It takes very good pictures with good accurate colors when shooting outside without the flash.

Cons: The user's guide is on the CD. If you choose to print it out you are looking at 180 pages. No option on Canon's website to purchase a paper copy of the manual.

Using the flash resulted in excessive red flesh tones on several peoples faces when using the camera in the automatic mode. I haven't tried the same test using the portrait mode or the manual mode. I suspect that it will be necessary to purchase an external flash.

The lens cap has a clip that permits you to attach it to the strap when shooting. I would have preferred a tether.

The packaging was about the worst I have ever seen. The box that it was shipped in was too big, but rather than fill it up with additional packing material the ends of the box were caved in and secured with tape. I was really frightened to open up the package because of how it looked.

Other Thoughts: It would have been nice for the camera to have had some amount of internal memory. Especially since the camera ships without a SD/SDHC card. As it is, Canon sends you 4 AA batteries but the camera is useless until you buy a memory card. I would have rather they put in a small SD card and leave out the batteries.

I like the camera and would probably purchase it again if I had it to do over. However, I was left with the feeling that Canon could have done better for the amount of money that you paid for the camera.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent camera

Pros: Canon camera, takes excellent pictures out of the box. Got it for a friend, but love it; perhaps, will buy for myself, too.

Cons: Don't know. Minus 1 egg for the unprofessional review :-)

Other Thoughts: The worst packaging I ever got from Newegg. Saving pennies on a $400 order?

3 out of 5 eggsIn a Haze

Pros: Great HD video with stereo sound. Intuitive menus (for the most part). Direct USB interface.

Uses AA batteries. Some people consider that a con. But what happens if you're in some remote location and you use up all the battery power you have? Any corner store will have AA's. Not any corner store is going to have proprietary camera batteries. If you put up with the minor inconvenience of using the view finder instead of the LCD screen, you can get PLENTY of life out of a normal set of AA batteries.

Cons: Mediocre (at best) picture quality. I sure would like to talk to the other reviewers who talk about crisp picture quality. I have taken hundreds of pictures over a wide range of subject matter and camera settings. I have yet to find a single picture that I did not feel compelled to use photo editing software to enhance the picture -- whether the original was overexposed, blurry, noisy, or whatever. Also, Canon got cheap and didn't print the full manual. A PDF is not very useful in the field! For $370, I expect to have a manual.

Other Thoughts: I bought this camera to replace my 7-year-old Kodak DX7590. You'd think 7 years later and for $100 more, the Canon would offer a better camera. But this Canon is terrible compared to the quality I got out of my old Kodak (except for the video). Unfortunately, I've looked at reviews for competing products from Nikon, Sony, Kodak, Fujifilm, and Pentax. NONE of them have rave reviews. For $400, I think that's just SHAMEFUL. I guess the camera market must be doing OK even in this economy if they can charge so much money for such mediocre products.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Crisp images, awesome zoom, great video options, lots of possibilities available from all of the manual settings. An impressive camera for this price range. Menus are intuitive if you've used Canon products before. I'll recomend it to my friends!
Shipping speed? FAST! Thanks NewEgg!

Cons: No lens cover strap? 8-(

Other Thoughts: Digital photography is awesome and allows even more creativity and flexability.... or simplicity.... your choice!

5 out of 5 eggsLove This Camera

Pros: Love this camera. Took it to a concert the weekend after I got it and it took awsome pics. Had three other people with us and my pics were by far the best. Very easy to use. I have always bought Kodak, but am now a Canon believer.

Cons: None other than I am use to the flash popping up and tend to forget to open it when needed.

Other Thoughts: One of the other gals taht was with us is looking at this camera to buy now.
