Decent depending on what you use it for
- Pros: This is a pretty honest review from someone who has since purchased an SLR. Great Flash. Easy and simple menu. Easy to use in Manual mode. Takes decent full-zoom pics FROM A TRIPOD (on a shutter speed slower than 400). Decent zoom, 12X is kind of misleading, especially once you come to understand what focal lengths are and how they work. This camera is a fisheye (wide-angle) lens, so lets say what you see is 1:1, the camera zoomed out is like 1:3, and zoomed in it's say 7:1. In other words a portion of the "Zoom" range just catches the wide-angle lens up to the normal viewing size. If you're shopping for a camera pay more attention to the focal length as noted in 35mm equivalence, it's much more honest. Zoomed in this camera has a 35mm equiv of 396mm. So not bad. The video mode it terrible, i should mention that and ran out of characters in the "Cons" section. The videos are grainy, VERY VERY hard to see details, and the audio is likewise bad. Don't get this for video.
- Cons: Many cons, but most probably wont apply to people looking to take outdoor or full-light indoor photos of people. But, bad shutter lag, even with a Class 6 memory card and lithium batteries. Bad noise at anything above ISO 100, totally unusable above ISO 400, but again you get what you pay for, and this camera uses a teeny-tiny sensor. No Image Stabilization means you NEED A TRIPOD for any zoom shots. This is 3rd time i've said it in this review, and it makes the difference between a kinda sharp subject, and a VERY SHARP SUBJECT. The AF is buggy, about 60% of my shots are focused, especially at full zoom. The White Balance works poorly if set on AUTO. Fuji's firmware applys too much sharpening in Hard & Standard more, I'd advise you to use Soft and apply your own level of sharpening in your post-shot software like Adobe Lightroom, etc. Fuji tends to oversaturate some shots like sunsets/sunrises, and sky shots on cloudy days, but this can be fixed in Photoshop. TERRIBLE VIDEOs
- Other Thoughts: Umm, make sure you take all your pics on 10F, or 10MP Fine, if you ever want to print or frame them. Also, i'd advise to shoot only in modes that let you lock the ISO @ 64, to keep noise out of your shots. Use a tripod anytime you're zooming in all the way, even in daylight. If you think your "from the hand" shots look great, you should see mine from a tripod with this camera :). I took a lot of wildlife shots and family reunion shots with this camera. It'll take ok pics for the mom or dad type photographer. If you know how to use Photoshop or Lightroom you can get some great shots from this in ideal conditions. If you're looking for a cheap super-zoom that is the jack of all trades, master of none, this isn't too bad. In my honest opinion I'd tell anyone who'll listen to spend a little more money and get the Lumix FZ28, it does everything this one'll do, but better and without requiring you to use manual mode. Still, ive gotten some gorgeous shots with this camera. My $.02
Absolutely Love it!
- Pros: Where to start?? A Non-SLR cameras that lets you use either "presets" or actually adjust the ISO and Shutter Speeds. Takes Very decent pics!! It has many many options, a nice & large LCD which can be shut off, and as an amateur photographer I am quite pleased! I can see my weekends are going to be spent outdoors a bit more now.
- Cons: Cant swap out lense for different lenses.
- Other Thoughts: While you wont be tucking this into your pocket, it still feels good in the hand. This is my 2nd Digital Camera. My 1st one was a 1 MegaPixel Kodak from 1997.
This camera has now replaced my trusty 35mm Pentax film camera. :)
Very amazing!
- Pros: The Zoom is fantastic!!! So is the Macro and the super macro shots, i have taken amazing pictures with this. It is totally worth the money, and i see it dropped 10 dollars since i bought it. Get it, Do not hesitate.
- Cons: I really don't see any cons with this.
- Other Thoughts: In my opinion, this is an amazing camera, especially for the price. I really don't see why people are saying its slow to take pictures, I can't tell at all. If your new to camera's or don't really know what your doing, or even if your an amateur photographer, this camera is amazing, take it from me. You will be extremely please with this, just like i am.
Newegg also did a great job with the shipping, i bought it saturday night and got it on wednesday. I really couldn't have been any happier with this purchase. Also, get an SD card for this, you have to, it only has like 26MB of internal space. I bought a 2GB for it, and its held all 200 pictures i've taken in the highest res so far. I just overall LOVE this camera.
