2 out of 5 eggsNot Tough Enough

Pros: Takes a very nice picture in extreme conditions, snorkling, skiing, hiking, ect.

Cons: The camera broke the second time I went snorkling with it. I returned it to Pentax and they repaired the camera. I live in Colorado and will not snorkle again until after the 1 year warranty expires, so I'm concerned.

Other Thoughts: I would suggest not buying this camera unless you plan a lot of underwater activity. It makes more sense to purchase a regular point and shoot for a general purpose camera because they are cheaper, smaller and easier to carry. Buy a cheap waterproof camera for the beach.

2 out of 5 eggsWaterproof Feature a joke, it is Water Resistant only

Pros: Takes really nice photos in the daytime outside of the water, and underwater it takes nice photos and videos only in high light and visibility. It's durable overall as far as shock resistance goes.

Cons: Sub-par video quality overall, very poor grainy photos and videos in low light. Useless at night. The display needs an added protector since the screen scratches fairly easily and much more easily than an iPhone's screen for example. Only waterproof for a limited amount of time in depths less than 5ft. The rubber seals meant to keep water out of the compartments are not tight enough to seal out water under pressure.

Other Thoughts: The first time I used it was while snorkeling and it took in water immediately and was ruined. I sent it back to newegg and requested a full refund and received my refund in less than 2 weeks.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat at what it is designed to do

Pros: Small, very quick boot, rugged as designed, underwater use, many shooting modes, cool design, caribiner is a nice feature

Cons: low light, battery isn't great

Other Thoughts: I used this camera on a long vacation in Hawaii, alongside my dSLR. It went on some aggressive hikes, as well as countless snorkels and pool dips. It took a good amount of abuse and spent extended periods of time *in* the water. For a camera designed for extreme use, it fit the bill entirely. When I didn't want to take my dSLR out, this little guy was a champ.

I feel the W90's purpose is a companion camera, not a main shooter.. and it performed better than I expected. Underwater shots and videos are AWESOME. Under 'good' lighting it takes very nice pictures - it often appears to have a glare, but this is never evident in the photos.

Videos are not as great as I had hoped, with the main problem being glare - caused by the protective glass over the lens. As long as the sun is not in the picture though, vids come out quite nicely (outside of dark situations). If I wanted great video though, I'd get a camera focused on that entirely.

2 out of 5 eggsHorrible Picture Quality

Pros: Nice feel and size, decent screen, some pictures are good.

Cons: No depth of field in either flash or non-flash mode (low light), poor auto focusing, horrible glare in outdoor lighting. low battery life.

Other Thoughts: I am sending back. Unacceptable.

4 out of 5 eggsOutstanding Point and Shoot Camera

Pros: Very good image quality, when the right mode is selected and lighting is correct
-Very impressed with the 'microscope' function that allows you to take high res pictures up close, no other camera I have does this
-Battery life is pretty good
-Videos are decent quality considering this is a camera (no experience with underwater vids)
-Underwater pics are just as good as pics taken on land, if you have correct lighting
-LCD screen on rear is very bright compared to my other camera
-Very durable feel
-Compact and convenient size
-Waterproof, visually check gaskets before entering water
-Accepts SDHC cards
-Internal lens, amazing zoom ability
-Got it for $230 shipped w/ floating wristband (actually very useful!)
-Buttons are ergonomically placed and I had no problems operating in the water.

Cons: -Image quality very poor with low lighting. Low lighting increases exposure time so, can be a pain without a tripod.
-Videos are capped at a maximum length of 2gb? Not an issue for me, as this is a camera
***-DO NOT install carabiner w/ strap, as this will damage the LCD screen and Lens***

Other Thoughts: ***-DO NOT install carabiner w/ strap, as this will damage the LCD screen and Lens*** Luckily, I read about this and used my carabiner for another project.

Always wash with clean water and let dry thoroughly before opening. Also, I hear most of these either work right away with regards to waterproofness, so test it out at a swimming pool before taking it on an underwater trip.

Overall a great point and shoot camera, durable (so far) and can't wait to take it down to the FL keys later this fall!

2 out of 5 eggsOkay for a Sunday walk in the park...

Pros: Waterproof, Lightweight, Easy to use (if you stick to a few settings).

Cons: Not durable (I smashed the lens screen within a month), Too many shooting modes.

Other Thoughts: This camera would be perfect if it actually was shockproof, etc. It's just not as durable as some of the other cameras I used.. But could be great for birthday parties and small gatherings where no one is moving too much.

If Pentax used a plastic lens cover, or one that slides back like the competition uses, then this could be a top notch camera.

2 out of 5 eggsPentax W90

Pros: Small and light weight. I can fit it in my pocket. Pictures are ok, when i am outside in the sun.... ideal camera to take to a water park in the morning. ** ONLY*** at night, just put it away...doesn't work...

Cons: Takes horrible pictures in low light situations. AVI movies are horrible!!! Strap handle with metal ring!!!! who thought of this???don't put this on!! will damage you camera like it did to mine!!! thought it was cool to have it attached to my belt, but as you walk it will swing and hit the metal ring and then will damage your camera!!! Little dents all over...
controls!! horrible!! cute with the special pictures frames, but that quickly wore out when the quality of it is below par.

Other Thoughts: I wish i would have listen to my senses and got the Canon. Past 5 Camera has been Canon and everyone of them are outstanding. just thought i should try a different one this time. read all reviews, and they did say the pentax rank number two beside Canon. so i sad, what the heck! let's go for it! boy was i sorry. thing that got me was the size. canon was so much bigger then the pentax. but i guess the reason why, is because it takes great pictures and the pentax takes horrible ones....

2 out of 5 eggsNOISE

Pros: Takes some what decent pictures in sunny conditions, and the macro lights are neat and I'm not really saying neat as truly amazed saying but as it could be a nice feature if the quality of this 12.0 mega pixel camera was at least as good as my 5 year old point and shoot with 5 mega pixels (wish we were allowed to say name brands here so i could be more helpful but the last reviews i wrote here with the names was rejected)

Cons: Low light shots of anything without the flash is a joke, and even with the flash it leaves somewhat to be desired, also when shooting in the manual mode as I most often do to get what I would call an OK shot you can set it up to allow the camera to take a longer exposure and have a smaller apperature to give you better depth a field in the shots and allow more light to enter but even this only helps a small ammount.

Other Thoughts: You'll never catch me using this camera as long as I have my 10 megapixel DSLR with me (and its 3 years old) but I will enjoy taking it trekking with me and it will serve as an ok back up in case my DSLR does finally break from the abuse I put it through. Overall I wish I would of saved my money and bough the K-7 instead of even wasting my money on this fancy and durable product that let me down and makes me doubt Pentax a little but not enough from stopping me from buying the K-7 if the price ever really drops

2 out of 5 eggsAnother Falling Waterproof Camera For Pentax

Pros: Good just too see the camera, beside comparing to my 1st Pentax Waterproof ...more things to play with new one

Cons: Comparing to Canon SD870 & 1st Pentax waterproof by taking images interior, exterior, macro scenes and movies in HD,640...very disappointed with Pentax W90,very noise below average images and movies...the movie only up to2gb flash memory card even you put 16gb in ,stop at 2gb and you need to press again to record another part...

Other Thoughts: If someone can wait for another few months i think the price will come down ...look for the price of Pentax W80...The best one i think Canon D10...
