What is the difference in this lens and the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens? Which one is better?

The STM lens is the newer version of this lens, which was released earlier this year. It is smaller (in depth), quieter (this one makes lots of noise while focusing), and has a 7 blade aperture. Another difference is that is has a 49mm thread (vs. 52mm for this one), so the lens caps aren't compatible. I've owned both and they both produce excellent results.
