Razer Surround gives gamers the best virtual 7.1 channel surround sound experience with any stereo headphones.

Current generation virtual surround technologies are often inaccurate given that every individual has a unique response to simulated sound stages – as such, virtual surround sound is often regarded as inferior to discrete surround sound setups.

Using state-of-the-art technology, the surround sound algorithms powering Razer Surround create an unbelievably accurate surround sound environment, and allow gamers to calibrate positional sound to match their own unique preferences. This level of calibration allows Razer Surround to provide an incredible level of precision in-game, allowing gamers to have the unfair advantage.

Best-in-Class 7.1 Virtual Surround Sound

Best-in-Class 7.1 Virtual Surround Sound

Razer Surround is an advanced 7.1 virtual surround sound engine that immerses you deeper into the game. Traditional virtual surround solutions use a one-size-fits-all approach, with algorithms built on averages of ear sizes and shapes. These attempt to create a generic virtual surround sound that is not personalized or optimized for each gamer.

Razer Surround, however, allows personal calibration for your ears; it gives you the ability to configure the perfect individual setting. Experience a greater sense of involvement in your favorite titles through our advanced audio application that accounts for the particular shape of your ears and the features of your headphones.

5 out of 5 eggsRazer Surround

Pros: 1. Support for any kind of headphone or earphone including wireless
ones.
2. Good degree of customization option.
3. Configuration is very intuitive
4. Sound quality improvement is pretty good.
5. In gaming, the improvement is best and provide good awareness in multiplayer gaming.

Cons: It does not detect all USB earphones and headphones. In fact it wasn't able to detect my Razer Megalodon USB surround headsets.

Other Thoughts: It is currently available at $0 in Newegg which is $20 saving and you are a fool for not to get it now.

3 out of 5 eggsinconclusive

Pros: This is basically an alternate location to download Razer's free surround sound software. This is the same as the free version that's available on their website. This software is a nice idea, and I can tell it does SOMETHING. It sounds like it applies an EQ to emphasize certain frequencies. The demo built into the program does seem to have accurate representation of positional audio.

Cons: The price being "reduced" to free is misleading. No "pro version" code was provided, as I had previously hoped. I've been playing Borderlands 2 for hours. Playing with Razer Surround seems to do nothing that plain stereo won't do.

Unfortunately, while gaming, I can't hear any difference between this and stereo as far as positional audio is concerned. I am starting to believe that this doesn't truly decode 5.1 data, but makes up its own using stereo data instead.

Other Thoughts: With over-the-ear headphones plugged straight into my computer, I can hear a difference with these. Certain sounds seem to "pop". After I bought a USB DAC, I don't hear very much difference at all. It basically sounds like an EQ. When I play games--Borderlands 2, for example---I can't hear any positional sounds. Just left and right, same as without this program. I may read some more reviews to see if this only works on certain games, or if it uses real 5.1 data at all.

1 out of 5 eggsBreaks your computer

Pros: None

Cons: The downloaded software that supposedly replaces your pre-existing audio driver with a better one decimates the previous one, in my case, the default. Upon installation, my audio STOPPED WORKING. If you uninstall it your computer will have sound immediately again.

Other Thoughts: Would not recommend, although I am a fan of Razer products.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth $0.00

Pros: If it wasn't actually destroying your system, being free would be a pro.

Cons: -Lowers your sound quality on a decent headset
-Can't hear anything on one side on some games.
-It will try to get you to buy other Razer products.
-It tries to set everything from your default audio card to going through Razer Surround.
-Now heres the biggest thing. I went to task manager today and saw this program using 2.7GB of RAM. TWO POINT SEVENNNN GIGABYTESSSSS. THAT IS INSAAAAANE. Well anyhow I have 32gb of RAM so I chuckled and deleted it along with Razer Synapse while I was at it.

Other Thoughts: I downloaded this way back when I bought my V.Moda M100s, just because I wanted to see how it played with a good headset. It did not play well at all. The surround was so artificial sounding it actually made me feel a bit sick. This software actually outdid how bad synapse is.

2 out of 5 eggsrazor 7.1 gaming software

Pros: I don't have any experience to comment.

Cons: This was free software from New Egg as a download. After installing it I was bombarded with ads from Razor wanting me to upgrade. It was for gaming equipment and apparel. I didn't want any of that but was packaged with it. I don't like being force fed stuff I didn't order and or want. So I uninstalled it.

Other Thoughts: I don't mind if a program comes through another one ordered especially if it is from the same company who produced it. But making me take the bundle to use a product that I may or may not have liked irritates me more so when the parent software is intrusive and annoying. This one was for me. It may be my fault for not understanding how to control it through it's installation but if its made for the ignorant..... you decide

3 out of 5 eggsRazer Surround

Pros: Already had RealTek Audio on my PC. Didn't notice any difference between the two.

Cons: Didn't like the fact you needed to log-in for the program to work.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Worked a few month ago before they updated it. Positional audio was superb!

Cons: Since they updated it the sound disappears completely mid game and requires me to disable it, reboot then reenable it to get the sound back. Lasts 10 minutes or so if I'm lucky before it cuts out again. Also, it runs into driver crashes frequently.

Other Thoughts: Seems to be worse with Windows 8 than Windows 7, but still buggy in 7 since before the last 2 updates. Very disheartening since I relied on it to tell me where other players were in MP games.
