5 out of 5 eggsWorked Fast

Pros: Code came within a few minutes and worked immediately. Price good. Windows 10 already out so couldn't get Win 8.1 Pro upgrade from Microsoft.

Cons: None other than the complainers that left negative review which caused me some concern before buying.

1 out of 5 eggsdoes not work at all, was a gift, but they were mistaken in what they purchased

Pros: they need to have a professional tech rating on the meter. there are many pros to upgrading to windows 8.1 pro edition however i received none of them. i currently am in posession of a code that will not work at all, there is some kind of error with my version of windows 8.1 and it willl not allow the upgrade.

Cons: two hours after receiving the gift of the windows 8.1 pro upgrade digital code (approx 95.00 gift) i attempted to receive a refund because of the fact that it would not work on my system. I had no responsibility in the purchase, someone who loves me very much but is not terribly familiar with computers made the purchase for me, and is currently in tears because she felt she wasted 100$ for no gift for me at all. Newegg did send out a 25$ gift card in response but because of the emotional nature and risk for a large loss in customer investment (considering the code hasnt even been used) I would say they dropped the ball. My customer service rep howerver was extremely helpful and friendly as well as apologetic. being a retail manager myself i understand the difficulty that comes with making bad or good calls even when it comes at a loss to you, the number one driving force should be exceeding profit margin and attachment values, however, allowing a customer a poor experience, having them try to console their fiance over something she did not do wrong, and taking up the better portion of the lattter half of my day with this dramatic exchange . I have been shopping here for over 10 years, but I received a gift that was incorrect. Critical overrides exist for this reason. ive had to do at least three this week, and lo and behold, my company is still within the top 100 fortune 500's. I suppose im a little frustrated, but i will keep shopping here, because i support the site. I do not however support the decidions that been made.

5 out of 5 eggsGoing Pro

Pros: Worked flawlessly at home and at work. Upgrading from 8.0 to 8.1 took longer than the Pro upgrade. I was finished and up and running in under an hour.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsSimple, fast.

Pros: Delivered within 30 minutes, worked like a charm.

Cons: None really, unless you don't file the information away.

Other Thoughts: Saves five bucks over ordering physical media.

2 out of 5 eggsDon't use this method

Pros: None

Cons: I had read the previous cons concerning this method of getting an upgrade, and shrugged them off as people just not reading the description well enough. I had read through and knew what I was getting. What I didn't know was that it was going to take 3 DAYS TO GET A FREAKING KEY CODE. Something as simple as getting an email took 3 DAYS TO GET. The ONLY reason that I am giving this two eggs is because the last guy at new egg that I talked to was able to get me the code in seconds (which in reality kind of ticked me off even more; why couldn't the other two people at new egg that I had spoken to previously gotten it to me that fast). Oh well , I'm gonna just chalk this one up as a life-lesson-learned. If I ain't gett'n the media, I ain't payin' for it. I had to go another route to get the computer upgraded since I was under time constraints.

Other Thoughts: I have a bad habit of not rating what I buy normally. So, when I do rate something it is either going to be freaking awesome or a complete waste of time, piece of JUNK!! Unfortunately in this case.........BIG waste of time, and money.

1 out of 5 eggsIncredibly Dissapointed with Windows 8 in general.

Pros: There is absolutely nothing good I can say about windows 8.

Cons: I have, several times now, made the mistake of buying a laptop, going "Oh It's windows 8.1" then realizing there isn't a domain join option available in it.

Now, reading the reviews, I'm wondering if I've got to start reading EULA's to figure out even if the upgrade would work on a laptop. I have no idea what version of windows I have; OEM, Retail, VLK, something else; by the tag on the bottom. Oh sure, I can use WMIC or Produkey and poke around. Why should I have to?

Win7 and Vista had several versions and they were very specific to what was in each; the time waste with their software is reaching critical mass.

Other Thoughts: There's no guarantee that this will actually update your windows 8 "home" to windows 8 pro.

3 out of 5 eggsUpdated review

Pros: Pro version

Cons: Regardless of my reanalysis of the pricing, I still believe it is too expensive to justify purchasing. Not to mention, it is misleading to potential buyers as it doesn't explain it is solely an upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 8.1 Pro.

Other Thoughts: This is an update to my previous review.

I realize the pricing for this item is in reference to retail versions of Windows 8, rather than the OEM versions, as I was referring to. In that regard, the pricing is not outrageously gouged.

It's still a better deal to go for the OEM version, though, unless you plan on upgrading your motherboard/cpu and reinstalling Win8.1 again.

1 out of 5 eggsOutrageous pricing

Pros: It adds the features of Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 8.1 Basic

Cons: The price for this is absolutely ridiculous. Windows 8.1 Basic is $100. Windows 8.1 Pro is $140. How Microsoft justifies a $100 price tag for this is beyond me. This is nothing short of highway robbery.

Other Thoughts: The price should be no more than the difference between the costs of Basic and Pro themselves.

3 out of 5 eggsWin 8.1 Pro / Bitlocker

Pros: The installation was easy enough.

Cons: The main issue is that I purchased this for the Bitlocker disk encryption feature only to find out that my new Lenovo laptop does not have the TPM(Trusted Platform Module) support to obtain the desired encryption I was looking for. Should have research this more. So a waste of $100.
