5 out of 5 eggsWorks When My Onboard Didn't

Pros: My onboard -- whether due to hardware or software -- was throttling my speed. I was set up for 330mbps. I was getting less than 100mbps. Now I get 330-340+!

Cons: None so far!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I just got one of these just to try it compared to the on board LAN of my motherboard. I was blown away when my download speed went from a 50-60 megabits pet second to 120-125 per second, I noticed a small jump in the upload speed, nothing huge though. tried a few downloads and updated a few games and it cooked through them like they were nothing.

Cons: none yet!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Addition

Pros: Opened box, installed card, updated drivers, plugged in Ethernet, all is working well. I was using the on-board NIC card which was capped at 100mbps and since i was using an RT-N66 gigabit router i wanted to maximize my throughput. Works like a charm and speeds are nice and high.

Cons: None so far

5 out of 5 eggsNo problems here

Pros: Works out of the box with esxi 5.5, way simpler than digging around for drivers and creating custom install disks. I'm very pleased with this product.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked great in Windows 7/8 but not in 8.1 (no support)

Pros: (When it worked) great improvement over my onboard solution, small profile, games no longer lagged severely, reduced CPU usage so I could do other things whilst having network intensive tasks running. pretty much did what a NIC is supposed to do.

Cons: After the Windows 8.1 update was applied the latest drivers for this card were removed and replace with Windows 8.1 default drivers that are over a year old and which I can only assume were made to "just about to get to work". There are no drivers for 8.1 on the Intel website so I was forced to use the Windows drivers, problems include:

stuttering music when internet browsing

system hangs when downloading

high CPU usage when downing or using download clients such as Steam.

capping my download speeds (I'm on 30Mb but only getting the equivalent of 10Mb)

download corruptions and lost connections to servers

I'm not sure who wrote the drivers for this card whether it was Microsoft or Intel but they did a terrible job, it's as if all the workload is being off loaded to the CPU and the NPU is just directing the traffic to the CPU rather than doing the work itself which is not what I paid for a NIC to do.

Other Thoughts: For some reason Intel have decided to continue support for Windows 8 (which is currently diminishing with the adoption of Windows 8.1) and don't even acknowledge driver support for 8.1. I don't understand the logic behind this choice and it's probably going to get to a point when Windows 8 market share is below 1% and Intel are still supporting it whilst 8.1 remains ignored.

when I asked Intel about the lack of support they directed me to Microsoft for help who in turn wanted me to sign up to a premium service for $100 with no guarantee that the driver problem would be solved, typical, capitalist M$ trying to turn me upside down and shake the money out of my pockets. If I had $100 on top of the money spent on the Intel NIC to waste on networking then I would've put the money towards a mobo that had an embedded Killer chip rather than screw around with Intel solutions that take up a PCIe slot and expansion slot, at least Atheros/Qualcomm support Windows 8.1.

Protip Intel; ditch 8, support 8.1

5 out of 5 eggsLove this card!

Pros: MASSIVELY improved my transfer rates.

Old NIC built into my motherboard was 100 mbit NIC and was only getting 12 mb/s transfers, I thought this was ok so I never messed with it.

Now I'm getting 87 mb/s. Copying a 4 gig movie file from MyCloud to my desktop took 55 seconds (yes, I timed it with a stopwatch)
- it is a very small card, you dont need a full sized PCI slot for it.
- very good build quality
- well packaged

Cons: black board would look cooler but otherwise no complaints

Other Thoughts: Make SURE you install the Intel drivers. The windows drivers work (win7) but my transfer speed went from 35 mb/s to 87 mb/s JUST from deleting the native windows 7 drivers and installing the Intel drivers (that you have to download).
