5 out of 5 eggsDoes the job, a little pricey

Pros: Full line rate (at least it *seems* that way) and absolutely no issues for 2 years and counting.

Cons: The configuration interface is a lame GUI and very unintuitive. It took me forever to configure a port channel.

Other Thoughts: If you need a GigE switch for home this isn't a bad idea. If I had it to do over again I'd probably go with one of those new VPN routers with built in GigE.

5 out of 5 eggsBuy it...best switch for the money.

Pros: Simple setup...plugged it in and..it worked. Blazing fast...didn't know my last gigabit switch was slowing my network down so much. Now have sustained PC-to-PC transfers well over 100MB/s (100MB/s-115MB/s typical which is near the realistic limits of gigabit when you take the packet overhead into account). Definitely good value.

Cons: Ports are on the front...don't know why. Minor issue and might work better for some people but...I would rather they be on the back like every other router in the 8-port class.

Other Thoughts: Like the title says...buy it...best switch for the money.

2 out of 5 eggsMaybe it's just mine but...

Pros: Nice feature set at a great price. Performs very well with multiple gigabit streams.

Cons: Have NEVER had a switch hang as often as this thing. Perhaps it's just mine but I have to power-cycle this thing at least once a month. Of course it seems to happen when I'm on the road - Murphy's Law and all.

Other Thoughts: I'm on the road right now and it's hung yet again. Today is the last straw. Based on other reviews talking about the reliability, I'm going to see if Netgear will replace it. I've had enough.

2 out of 5 eggsdied after two years

Pros: Fine while it worked. Really like the auto-sense uplink feature.

Cons: I bought four Netgear Ethernet switches in Dec 2007, two from the "ProSafe" pro-sumer line. The GS108T-100NAS died about a year ago, Now the GS108 has died. The symptom in both cases is that the unit fails to power up. Fortunately, Netgear replaced the previously failed GS108T-100NAS under lifetime warranty. Hopefully they will do the same for the GS108T.

5 out of 5 eggsRock Solid with Peace of Mind

Pros: I've owned this thing for over two years, and it finally died. But that's not a problem with the LIFETIME warranty that comes with it. RMA'd with Netgear and a new one should be on its way.

For the past two years we've been running at full gigabit speeds gaming away with this thing. Looks awesome in my LAN closet. She's been working side by side with a DLink GamerLounge flawlessly.

Cons: Not really any. How many pieces of network hardware can you say you've had for over two years, and not have to invest over and over in a new one.

Other Thoughts: Seriously, do the math. A managed gigabit switch that, yes, costs 100 bucks, but you will never have to buy another one again. It is a main staple in my home infrastructure!

If I were to do it all over again, it would be a definite buy, and a serious consideration for Netgear to supply my gigabit router!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent features for price!

Pros: Affordable managed Gbit switch with good feature set. Switch has enough memory to give true Gbit speeds. Hardly ever have to power cycle these suckers...very reliable.

Cons: None for the cost

Other Thoughts: Have 3 of these for home vmware lab. 2 for iSCSI MPIO storage network using jumbo frames feature. The other for my standard networks using vlans, and port mirror with NTOP. No issues setting up Vlans to route between each other using Cisco 1800.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Switch

Pros: Solid web management interface, no shortage of options. Currently the best bang for your buck with the existing rebate offer (sub $80).

Cons: Runs a tad bit hot. Make sure you place this somewhere with decent airflow.

Other Thoughts: Ordered 4 of these.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great price for the features, web managment interface, VLAN support, port mirroring, logging, port authentication, ALL 8 are gigabit ports, SNMP, quick speed, IGMP snooping.

Cons: Front ports are kind of annoying for a home network.

Other Thoughts: Overall this switch is great, no issues with it so far. The highest transfer speed between two gigabit machines has been 65MB/s which is pretty decent. This is a huge improvement over an old dlink switch I had. The metal casing is a plus for sure, especially because this gets fairly hot with all the traffic I have going through it.

Port mirroring is great as I have an IDS system in place and this allows me to make better use of it.

The web interface is a bit slow compared to some others and is less than intuitive at times. Its not that stuff is hard to find but the layout and process to change some settings is confusing.

Overall for the price you will not be disappointed, this is packed with features. It also has respectable speed.
