1 out of 5 eggsMore Garbage from Netgear

Pros: Worked for about 3 days and never worked again.

Cons: After 3 days the device died. Was on with Netgear for 87 minutes. Installed and re-installed the Intel software (yes they use Intel's software and not their own) three times. Could not get the Intel software working. They wanted me to re-order a new one from Newegg. How would a new one work if they couldn't get the Intel software working?

Finally said they would have a supervisor call me in 45 minutes. Surprise! It's been 3 days and no call. Shocking. Netgear had a good reputation years back but now sell garbage.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks fine after initial difficulties

Pros: Nice clear image in 1080p
great for displaying content to friends and family from my PC.

Cons: Required a reinstall of my Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software before I could pair it to my computer. Software was already installed and fully updated, it just refused to work for some reason.

Other Thoughts: I use this to stream my movies collection from my computer to my HDTV. I was able to watch an entire blu-ray streamed from my PC without running into any stuttering, although I haven't used the adapter for more than a week yet, so it may still happen.

Since my computer supports a low latency connection mode as well (720p, roughly 60ms lag) I'm also able to play some games on the HDTV with a wireless controller.

For the record, I'm using an ASUS Maximus V Gene based desktop PC in a different room on a different floor of the house. WiDi seems to work with Lucid Virtu MVP fine as well so I can play graphically intensive games on the HDTV without being limited by the integrated graphics. I haven't run into any issues with this yet (all games that worked with Virtu still work that I've tried), though I'm also sure that this use-case is unsupported.

2 out of 5 eggsIt works, but...

Pros: It works as described, you have an option to stretch the screen to make it fit the TV screen perfectly.
Streaming audio/video quality is good

Cons: Streaming contents HAVE to freeze once a while, which is so freaking annoying. T__T

Other Thoughts: I got this for $20 with $20 rebate = FREE.
Well, I mean, what can you expect in a free product? If you have to pay, don't get this, it's not worth it.

2 out of 5 eggsMediocre Performance

Pros: Wireless means of connecting PC to HD TV, small adapter, inexpensive with rebate that is quickly fulfilled.

Cons: Display of streamed content periodically freezes, which is extremely frustrating and annoying. Intermittent lag and stutter in display as well as occasional PC-to-adapter handshaking problems.

Other Thoughts: I have switched to a long HDMI cable and will never ever use the Push2TV adapter again.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work with Lenovo Y580 Windows 8

Pros: Unidentifiable. The Lenovo Y580 3rd Gen Core i7 with Windows 8 does locate the device and attempts to connect but never succeeds.

Cons: Difficult to set up. Intel and Netgear both recommend certain driver combinations and the Intel drivers are incredibly difficult to use because they expect the user to install in a specific order and require a system restart following each driver update or downgrade. To me, this is a sign that Intel's drivers are unstable and that WiDi is an immature platform that is too difficult to use for the vast majority of users. Additionally, Netgear's support is poor. They advertise a page that supposedly lists compatible devices but it does not exist, the link (that is labeled as a compatibility listing on Netgear's website) takes the user to the current iteration of the product. It could have been an inoperable product and not an incompatibility but after the experience I don't want to bother.

Other Thoughts: Be careful, the perspective user must be certain that this product is compatible with their machine, most likely from message postings from those with like machines. For many, it seems to be a junk platform. My machine is a Lenovo Y580 with 3rd gen core i7, 16GB ram and a 256GB ssd msata primary drive with Windows 8, compatibility with the latest technology should not be an issue. Thank you Newegg for issuing a refund.

5 out of 5 eggsWireless is wonderful

Pros: Functions just as needed. Have not run any FPS but for videos and internet, lag is minimal (maybe 0.25 seconds), sends 5.1 audio to my receiver (Marantz)

Cons: it does have a 0.25s lag. probably not the best for gaming but works for everything else. does get a bit warm if it runs for a long time. drivers can be a pain determining if you installed in the proper order and such. Latest Intel Wireless drivers (15.6) specifically addresses these issues. determining which version of WiDi drivers will work is also a pain.

Other Thoughts: After reading other reviews, I was prepared for an all-nighter on the driver issues but it really didn't take that long. WiDi latest (3.5) did not work for me. says incompatible hardware (Clevo W370ET with core I7 and Intel 2230 wireless card). I gave it five stars because I came in not expecting to game with it. does everything I need and $30 with rebate on shell shocker is hard to beat!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great ... after hard and challenging initial setup!

Pros: Truly HD - Simple to use, they even include a HDMI cable! The manuals are not helpfull, eg, instead of saying 'push on the RESET button', I spent 15 minutes looking for the button in the instructed sentence 'push 5 seconds on the button in the side'! This tiny reset button is located underneath!

Cons: None!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat....Once Setup

Pros: Great picture and sound quality.

Cons: Setup was challenging on my W8 x64 HP DV7 Laptop.

Other Thoughts: I had to contact Netgear day-1 after not being able to get a connection to work....and I have been a techie for years.

I had no problem associating the ptv2000 with my laptop....it just would not stay connected. The connection would last about 3-5 seconds and die with nothing appearing on the screen ever.

Working with Netgear I uninstalled my current Intel PROSet wireless drivers and installed the W7 x64 drivers that carried the Intel My WiFi setup - Wireless_15.1.0_s64.exe

After loading those drivers I loaded the My WiFi application and enabled My WiFi and then connected to ptv2000 still using the current WiDi software 3.5.40.0 (as of 2/8/2013)

Connection occurred and ptv2000 downloaded and updated to the latest drivers. I was able to connect and see my laptop and watch HD content without issue. Great picture and sound.

I then upgraded my PROSet wireless drivers back up to the current release and retried connecting. Same as before....association worked fine but the connection would drop in a 2-3 seconds.

I brought up the network and sharing center to see what was happening with connections during the association with the ptv2000. I could see that when the association started there was a new wireless connection created and it would die within the 2-3 seconds.

I decided I wanted to look at the properties of the connection. I started the association and when the connection appeared in the connection center I opened it up before it could close to look at the properties.

I discovered in the properties of the IP4 driver on the connection that the IP and DNS address where both set to fixed with nothing in the boxes. I changed the setting to auto for both IP address and DNS and then let the connection close.

I then tried connecting to the ptv2000 and it connected fine and has been working excellent since.

Sorry for the long post but I figured others may run into this situation and this could be a good resource for correcting the issue quickly.

4 out of 5 eggsOk

Pros: Like an HDMI cable when it works

Cons: Transmission artifacts occur occasionally. Worse yet is the randomly occurring sound loss issue. Google it. Updating drivers helped a lot but didn't eliminate the issue. Once it happens, only rebooting or changing input source will restore sound.

Pro-tip: get your drivers from your laptop manufacturer (in my case for an HP Sceptre XT ultrabook). I wasted unbelievable amounts of time getting them direct from Intel only to be unable to even connect to the Netgear device.

Other Thoughts: I originally gave this two eggs, but it's worth four with the latest drivers that actually work. Do consider getting a nice long HDMI cable though. They're cheap and the ones with Redmere tech are very thin to boot.

2 out of 5 eggsGood when it works

Pros: When it works, it's just as good as having the HDMI cable plugged in. Artifacts from wireless transmission are very minimal and infrequent.

Cons: Sound typically cuts out permanently within 5 minutes of connecting to the Netgear device. Have to change input source on laptop (Win key + P) to get it working again (often works for an hour afterwards). This is a serious issue. If you Google it, you'll find other have encountered it as well.

I tried changing my WiFi router settings (changed from Mixed to Wireless-N only and manually selected channel 10, 11, and 1) so it wouldn't interfere with the Netgear device. No real difference. Signals from neighbors are all one bar or weaker. I've also tried downgrading AND upgrading the software on my new HP Spectre XT ultrabook (including the WiFi, graphics, and WIDI driver dance). All of those attempts resulted in not being able to connect to the Netgear device at all. Windows System Restore was the only saving grace there.

Just to recap: the only drivers that have worked at all for me are Intel Widi driver 3.0.13.0 (latest on Intel website is 3.5.40.0) and Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi 15.01.0500.0903 that were preloaded on the laptop.

Other Thoughts: HDMI cables are really inexpensive and work very well. There's even thin ones with "Redmere" tech.
