Ease of use:
The switches are easy to use and install for businesses that have no IT staff. They work right out of the box, with no configuration or software needed.

Powerful network performance:
The Cisco 100 Series provides the boost of speed and capacity that small businesses need to support bandwidth-intensive applications and avoid slow or sluggish networks.

Support for advanced technologies:
Built-in QoS intelligence on all models helps maintain consistent network performance.

An eco-friendly solution:
The Cisco 100 Series optimizes power usage without compromising performance, protecting the environment and reducing energy costs. They support the Energy Efficient Ethernet (IEEE 802.3az) standard, which reduces energy consumption by monitoring the amount of traffic on an active link and putting the link into a sleep state during quiet periods.

Peace of mind:
These switches deliver the quality, reliability, and innovation customers expect from a Cisco switch. They have been rigorously tested and are backed by a Cisco limited lifetime warranty.

Quiet operation:
A fanless design on most models allows the switches to run silently and unobtrusively.

Outstanding support:
These switches are supported by the Cisco Small Business Support Center, which is staffed by personnel who have earned the Cisco CCNA certification and can provide immediate, quality technical help.

Cisco 100 Series Switches deliver powerful network performance and flexibility for small business networks, without the complexity. With no installation software and nothing to configure, you get an affordable, reliable network that just works, right out of the box.

1 out of 5 eggsCISCO support is TERRIBLE for this

    Pros: Neat package
    Metal Case
    Status Lights
    Gigabit Speeds

    Cons: TERRIBLE Cisco Support
    Poor support policies
    Idiotic support

Other Thoughts: We had this switch for about 7 months. The last few months it would lock up randomly after 1 day to 1 week. We did some troubleshooting and all signs pointed to the switch (a power cycle would restore it to use for another 1 day to 1 week). Eventually we got tired of that and replace it. The lockup problems went away.

So I called CISCO to get this broken one replaced, expecting a 10 minute call. After almost an hour of them trying to have me to PC-to-PC ping diagnostics on an unmanaged switch that ALWAYS works fine when we initially plug it in, and telling me that if they could ping, they would not replace it, I gave up.

TERRIBLE WARRANTY SUPPORT for a proven bad (the new one works fine, rock solid) sub-$50 switch.

5 out of 5 eggsgood unit, exceptional customer service!

Pros: Small, quick, low power use, cool running

Cons: no jumbo frames, I liked the rev design better with the ports in the rear.

4 out of 5 eggsCheap for the performance

Pros: Purchased this switch to replace a balky "green" gigabit switch from a competing brand. The old switch was a network bottleneck; speeds through it were 30% slower than through our (admittedly much higher-end) HP Pro-Curve and Cisco 500-series switches. This cheap Cisco box offers essentially the same performance as the 10-50x higher priced HP switches until you have more than two devices competing for full bandwidth or are connecting jumbo-frame enabled devices.

The switch also includes basic, automated QoS to prioritize video and VOIP packets that works remarkably well. A lifetime warranty is a bonus - especially compared to the 90 day or 1 year warranties common in this price range.

Cons: Knocking off a star for lack of jumbo frame support. We're using this switch for streaming video, VOIP, and screen-sharing in a presentation room. The projectors don't utilize jumbo frames, so this was not a concern. If your application requires maximum bandwidth between two computers with server-class, jumbo-frame enabled 1Gbps NICs, then you will be better served by a switch such as the lower-end HP Procurve models. Unfortunately, Newegg no longer carries these, so you'll need to shop elsewhere.

Other Thoughts: Yes, it costs a few dollars more than do budget brands. The faster performance, lack of dropouts, QoS support, and lifetime warranty are worth it. If you need jumbo-frame support over a GbE connection, this switch is not going to be your best choice. For basic video streaming and VOIP, however, the Cisco switch performs as well as far more costly hardware.

5 out of 5 eggsSimple and Reliable

Pros: A simple and small desktop switch with true 1GBE throughput. Being physically small it's easy to place anywhere and no fan means it's quiet.

Cons: A little more expensive than the competition, but I figure you get what you pay for. I bought this to replace a competitor's switch that failed after a little over a year.
