2 out of 5 eggsquit functioning after 6 months

Pros: inexpensive

Cons: It quit working as a primary switch (direct to the router) after 6 months. I can still get it to work (sometimes) when cascaded off the primary switch. I don't understand the behavior, but it's wrong. I put my old 10/100 switch back in and it's plugging away just fine.

Other Thoughts: The S80g (metal case) that I bought before this one continues to work well.

2 out of 5 eggsDead in less than a year

Pros: Worked great.

Cons: Died way too early.

Other Thoughts: This switch sits next to my router. Plenty of ventilation for both. Unit died after 10 months of use. My network suddenly went down and I traced the problem to the switch. Power light was on but none of the port lights were.

Unplugging/replugging power and ethernet cables didn't work. The unit smells of ozone so some electronic piece probably died in the switch. Pretty annoying for something like a switch to die this soon.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good for the price!

Pros: I bought this to extend my network in my house, and so far it has worked really well.

Cons: The only con I have is that it seems to generate a lot of heat when it is sitting flat. I put it in a small plastic cradle that came from something else and it seems to ventilate much better that way.

Other Thoughts: I docked an egg due to heat issues. The device did not stop working, but it caused another device (my router) to stop working because I stacked it on top of this.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little unmanaged switch

Pros: Using this in my living room with some IP cameras, Xbox, PS2 & HTPC, no issues and no lag - great throughput.

Cons: Wish it was managed, but not at this price point.

Other Thoughts: Not sure about any of the power saving hype, as it's a device that doesn't use much to begin with (5VDC 1A max after being converted from 120VAC is nothing). My managed gigabit switch in my server rack pulls a constant ~150w so what this switch uses compared to that isn't even a blip on my power bill.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great price, little to no heat

Cons: Wish I would have purchased 2 of these

Other Thoughts: Picked this up on sale for $20 shipped to my house and has performed as advertised. I generally transfer .wim files which are around 10gb in size to multiple systems simultaneously and this has been a fantastic upgrade. I have this daisy chained with a 100mbs and have no issues with speed differences. I just wish I would have picked up 2 of these!
