3 out of 5 eggsOkay, buy

Pros: It does it's job

Cons: It burnt up. The main chip gets freakin hot and it smoked - a cheap stick on heatsink would have made this last forever. 2 eggs off for the lack of a less than a buck retail heatsink, sorry.

Other Thoughts: I would buy this again if it was the best for the price; however, I would rip the cover off and stick on a heatsink before use. If your not willing to do that I would not purchase this unit.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice

Pros: 8-port Gigabit switch what else do you need. Stays very cool, even tho my router was sitting on top of it. Metal casing, excellent quality. Recomment to anyone that needs it.

Cons: NONE

4 out of 5 eggsRJ45 release tab on bottom

Pros: items connect fine, wall mountable with number 6 screws.

Cons: If you mount this to a wall with screws, very diffcult to release the network wire. The release tab on the RJ45 is on the bottom.

5 out of 5 eggsJust sits in the basement...

Pros: No issues. It just works.
Inexpensive.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I use this as my central switch. It sits on a shelf in the basement and I haven't touched it in years.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks, but no speed light

Pros: gigabit speed
cheap
desktop design (lights in front, cables in rear)

Cons: no link light for speed

Other Thoughts: I like to know if a device is 100 or 1000 speed, but this device just has link on or off, but no color for speed

5 out of 5 eggsNice Little Switch

Pros: Nice and easy to use. I needed a switch by the TV for all the components. I like the fact the lights are not too bright on the front - but they are bright enough to see. Seems sturdy with the metal case. Much heavier than the 5 port switch I replaced.

Cons: It is a little more picky than the Netgear I replaced. I made my own cables and messed one up. My Netgear didn't care - this one wouldn't work until I found and fixed the bad cable. Once I found the problem - this unit worked perfect.

Other Thoughts: Remember to put the little rubber feet on the bottom of the switch before you install it. I forgot and had to add them later. It would have been much easier if I'd put them on before I attached the wires and placed this on the shelf.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Replacing aging 5 port switches around facility for clusters of devices. These have been great thus far, good price, no duds, run cool, transfer on the same switch seams to be outstanding (imaging another PC on it).

Cons: None yet.

5 out of 5 eggsSimple and it works

Pros: Simple plus and play. Rugged metal housing.

Cons: I always like integrated power supplies, but I understand that's difficult with small units like this.

1 out of 5 eggsIssues

Pros: Sturdy metal case, somewhat muted lights

Cons: Severely limited network throughput - cannot recommend.

Other Thoughts: I wanted more ports where I previously had a 5 port switch, so replaced it with this 8 port switch. I've previously used switches from numerous manufacturers, and only had to plug them in for trouble-free operation. Not so with this one - it lowered file transfer rates to an unusable level. I regularly use a client machine to transfer files between drives on my Freenas server and get a speed of approximately 45mb/second. This switch lowered the transfer rate to 20kb/second (that's kb not mb). Also tried transferring a file between the server and the client machine - same unacceptable result. Put back the 5 port switch and the transfer rate increased to 45mb. Not worth the hassle and expense to return to Newegg, so I'm out the purchase price.

5 out of 5 eggscheap and works as advertised

Pros: They work well. I got them for a school that i administer of over 400 computers. These were not in anyway used near the core of our network but due to recent upgrades of our network core i wanted to put in some switches in the class room that would give them access to gigabyte speeds. I bought 9 of these. They work like a charm none of them were dead on arivals they all came working and running well. I tested my lan speed over then network with them and i was getting around 110 megabytes per second over cat 5 cords soon to be replaced. considering gigabit speeds peak max theoretically on consumer ethernet cards, switches, and ethernet cat 6 wires typically peak at 128 megabytes per second this is really good for cheap switches since the bottlekneck of 110 was probably the hard drive and not the switch. I know there are higher end switches like hp and cisco which we use plenty of here can get closer to 256 megabytes persecond over lan but your not going to get that for a switch under 225 dollors and with just conusmer gigabit wires and ethernet cards. So for 1/10th the price getting normal 1 gig speeds is wonderful and in the consumer world probably wont have a hard drive other then an ssd that will utilize the full lan speed anyways. Anyone looking for a cheap switch at the end points of your networks or a good cheap lan party switch that is still overkill these are good picks.

Cons: Rosewill is known to be cheap and even though i and many of you may feel like this is taking a risk with these i have to say this is proving rosewill as a company for being capable of making nice and working inexpensive products. I would not be scared to buy many more of these.
