3 out of 5 eggsNo bad but still some issues

Pros: - 3 antennas, very stylish, the wifi is very stable for playing games using 2.4GHz

Cons: - Sticker on the back always peel off, also the 5GHz is very unstable and I have to reboot the unit each week because he lost connexion with my router.

Other Thoughts: Price = a little bit too high, Amped Wireless should work on a new firmware, the extender is still using an old firmware from 2014 -_-

5 out of 5 eggsStable, strong radios, sensitive receivers

Pros: - Excellent radios. Strong power amps and sensitive receivers.

- Once you get it set up, it's stable and works for months without needing attention despite router reboots, dropouts, etc.

- Appearance is great for a home, white like walls (but the external power supply is black) & doesn't have bright flashing lights that look like Shanghai by night. Why don't more consumer electronics vendors make white things instead of black things? Last time I went into a room with black walls they also had whips and chains displayed on them.

Cons: - I'd like to use the ethernet ports to supply it with a wired LAN and use it in AP mode, since it has such good radio design, but this isn't possible. You can only use the ethernet ports as local attachments for the wirelessly extended LAN segment. This makes me wonder why they put a WAN ethernet port in there, like you'd find in a router or access point.

- Firmware is limited in flexibility, probably in an effort to be simple. Ought to have an advanced section. For example there is no "wifi roaming assist" feature to be able to dump wireless clients when they drop below a certain RSSI threshold.

- No DD-WRT or other alternative firmware available.

Other Thoughts: - You CAN create a network with the same SSID as the home network, unlike the prior reviewer said. Just create a guest network on your main router (one 2.4G and one 5G). Name these SSIDs differently than your home network. Then attach the Amped Wireless extender to this guest network (which we can view as a backhaul or trunking network). Then set your Amped Wireless extended network to the same SSID as your home network. For easier roaming between main and extended networks, put the guest network on the same subnet as the main network in the main router, and allow it access to other clients (no AP isolation).

- Now that I have gigabit fiber at home, I thought I'd be able to create a wifi network that would keep up. Keep dreaming. Only way to do this is with Cat6 wiring. Even my new Macbook Pro with 802.11ac held right next to the main ISP router's with built in 802.11ac, I manage max 800Mbps. Wifi ratings are stated in "total Mbps for all streams", not peak throughput for a stream.

5 out of 5 eggsAmped Wireless REA20 Review

Pros: - Device cosmetics looks amazing
- User Interface easy to use
- Signal Strength is great
- Amped Customer Support, James - Concierge #172 was able to help me out after i spent over an hour troubleshooting the setup myself. After the configuration saved i was able to connect to my other servers on my network and everything was working great.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've mainly stuck with Apple Airports when setting up wifi extenders so attempting to set this device up required much more patience. Nothing the device did bothered me i was just too impatient to wait for the configuration to complete, and for my PC to identify the extender. After the configuration saved and internet was restored, everything ran smooth and i could not be more pleased with the product.

5 out of 5 eggsREA20

Pros: Setup was a breeze. Extremely long range. Upgradeable antennas. Been using this for 2 months with no issues yet. Left it plugged into electric outlet 24/7 and even just did a firmware update. Laptop actually picked up its signal even a few blocks away.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Bought this to replace my SR20000G which I gave to a friend after I saw this REA20 model. May consider purchasing another one to keep as a spare. Will wait for the price to drop a bit first.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Excellent antenna strength, easy to use and setup. Industrial materials used

Cons: Expensive

Other Thoughts: I used this to extend the wireless network capability of a home network. worth every penny though. You have to take into account the walls in your home or office when determining how far the range will go. The coverage on this device is excellent though.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't extend the range the way you might think

Pros: Powerful broadcasting and good antennas.

Cons: This doesn't extend the range of your access point's SSID. It doesn't. It will create a new access point, with a new, unique SSID, and bridge to the source access point (probably your router). You also cannot disable the DHCP service. I disabled the service in the settings, then it randomly, re-enables itself. I called tech support, and they could not resolve my issue because this is a known issue with these pieces of expensive junk. I will be sending the two I purchased back to NewEgg.

Other Thoughts: Find something that supports wireless distribution system (WDS).

Manufacturer Response:

Sorry for the trouble you are experiencing with our unit. Unfortunately our units do create a new SSID as it transmits a new signal and they do not support WDS. As far as the DHCP, that can be disabled but you need to set a static IP address on the unit from the routers subnet otherwise there will be no connection to the network. Again we apologize form the inconvenience and trouble you experienced and please call our tech support line at 888-573-8820 if you need assistance.
