1 out of 5 eggsWorthless

This review is from: Edimax EW-7438RPn V2 300Mbps Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender, Repeater, Wireless Bridge, Access Point, Wall Plug design, Smart LED Signal Indicator, Easy iQSetup by Smart Phone (No CD Required)

Pros: It was easy to setup.

Cons: The device is useless, utterly useless. It worked well for about a week and then nothing but constant issues.

It was placed in an area that had great signal and would show that it was transmitting without issue. However, 75% of the time it would stop broadcasting its SSID and I could not maintain a connection to it. The connection was so bad, that I would often connect my wireless router and deal with its slow response over this device.

Other Thoughts: Tell you what, if you want one you can have mine. Currently it is in 6 pieces after being thrown against the ground. Honestly, that was the best use I got out of it.

1 out of 5 eggsFollow up to "don't bother"

This review is from: Edimax EW-7438RPn V2 300Mbps Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender, Repeater, Wireless Bridge, Access Point, Wall Plug design, Smart LED Signal Indicator, Easy iQSetup by Smart Phone (No CD Required)

Pros: none

Cons: see original review

Other Thoughts: Follow up to manufacturer response.
I wish distance was the case here. When setting up, edimax was within 5 feet from my wireless router, so distance is definitely not the problem here. The device just didn't work as expected fro me.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear dymek,

We are sorry that you have issues with EW-7438RPn.

We need to know more information about your existing WiFi network. We also need to know the brand and the model of your WiFi router which needs to extend the range. Hopefully we can resolve this connection issue for you.

Please feel free to contact our tech support at (800)652-6776 or write an email to " support@edimax.us " directly.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't bother

This review is from: Edimax EW-7438RPn V2 300Mbps Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender, Repeater, Wireless Bridge, Access Point, Wall Plug design, Smart LED Signal Indicator, Easy iQSetup by Smart Phone (No CD Required)

Pros: Pretty case

Cons: Simply does not work. After initial setup in repeater mode, it will stay connected for a minute or two, than it will revert to using it's original default IP and drop internet connection. Router show that it is still connected but no outside access. All pages get redirected to internal setup page. Tried resetting and setting up fresh several times, always with the same result.

Other Thoughts: Maybe I got a dud, but that is still not acceptable

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are sorry that you have issues with EW-7438RPn.

It seems the extender does not receive WiFi signal from the root WiFi network. If the extender is not in the range of the existing WiFi network, it will drop connections. We recommend you put the extender next to the WiFi router to set up. Once you confirmed the extender recognize your network, then you can put the extender in the middle between the dead zone and your WiFi router.

If you need any further assistance, please feel free to contact our tech support at (800)652-6776 or write an email to " support@edimax.us " directly.

3 out of 5 eggsHit and Miss

This review is from: Edimax EW-7438RPn V2 300Mbps Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender, Repeater, Wireless Bridge, Access Point, Wall Plug design, Smart LED Signal Indicator, Easy iQSetup by Smart Phone (No CD Required)

Pros: It work great on the first month, but it keeps rejecting my connection.

Cons: It doesn't last.

Other Thoughts: Don't use it in the basement.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are sorry that you have issues with EW-7438RPn v2.

Please do not put the extender in a dead zone where it can not receive WiFi signal from your WiFi router. You can place the extender in the middle between the dead zone and your WiFi router.

If you need any further assistance, please feel free to contact our tech support at (800)652-6776 or write an email to " support@edimax.us " directly.

3 out of 5 eggsGood when it works.

This review is from: Edimax EW-7438RPn V2 300Mbps Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender, Repeater, Wireless Bridge, Access Point, Wall Plug design, Smart LED Signal Indicator, Easy iQSetup by Smart Phone (No CD Required)

Pros: Initially it worked as advertised. Speeds were relatively good, and it did a good job of extending my network.

Cons: After a few weeks of use, it became flaky. Either its wifi would drop or it would drop its connection to the main router (other devices can connect fine during this time, so it's not the router). Resetting the device fixes the issue, but the need to reset has become more frequent with time, and now I'm resetting it on a daily basis.

Other Thoughts: This is inexpensive and has acceptable performance, but watch out for degradation with long-term use.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear RushJet1,

We are sorry that you have issues with EW-7438RPn v2.

We need more information from you in order to trouble shoot the issue. This issue could be caused by some kind of Wi-Fi interference.

If the unit is faulty, we have 2 years warranty for our products.

Please feel free to contact our tech support at (800)652-6776 or write an email to " support@edimax.us " directly.

Cons: I thought the connection was going to be much better, but is just average.

1 out of 5 eggsuseless

This review is from: Edimax EW-7438RPn V2 300Mbps Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender, Repeater, Wireless Bridge, Access Point, Wall Plug design, Smart LED Signal Indicator, Easy iQSetup by Smart Phone (No CD Required)

Pros: Just the signal increse 5~8 %. No use !

Cons: Do not buy !

Other Thoughts: do not buy !

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are sorry that you have issues with EW-7438RPn.

Please use some wireless diagnostic tools like InSSIDer version 3 to find out the best wireless channel for your main WiFi network. Use a different WiFi channel in your router to avoid the same channel of your neighbors wireless networks.

If you need any further assistance, please feel free to contact our tech support at (800)652-6776 or write an email to " support@edimax.us " directly.

1 out of 5 eggsWaste of Money

This review is from: Edimax EW-7438RPn V2 300Mbps Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender, Repeater, Wireless Bridge, Access Point, Wall Plug design, Smart LED Signal Indicator, Easy iQSetup by Smart Phone (No CD Required)

Pros: Easy installation

Cons: Extremely slow! While hanging out downstairs in our living room, (router upstairs in bedroom) from my router I was receiving 68% signal, with 30 mb down 10 up. I specifically purchased this "extender" for my Smart TV with Netflix, and Xbox one. My Xbox One had an update, took over 1 hour!!! Ruined my bowling night! Netflix barely played a movie, in horrible quality. I thought I was going crazy! Its placed in between the router and the "dead zone" like the instructions say. I ran a speed test, this piece of junk was barely hitting 5mb down 1-2 mb up. Are you kidding me>? you advertise 300mb LOL yea ok, I do IT work for a living, have set up 100's of networks in my days. This product is JUNK. Only getting 30% signal, when my router is already giving 68% LOL TRASH

Other Thoughts: TRASH

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We appreciate your feedback and would like to provide some assistance.

Please make sure the extender is not blocked by any furniture in your location.

You may use some wireless diagnostic tools like InSSIDer version 3 to find out the best wireless channel for your WiFi network. The wireless extender is used to extend the WiFi range and could not keep the same WiFi throughput. The extender receives the traffic and will broadcast the same traffic into the same wireless network. This will double the traffic and therefore decrease throughput. Trying using a different WiFi channel in your router to avoid using the same channel with your neighbors. Usually this can improve this extender throughput issue.

The 300mbps is the connection speed between wireless devices and the extender. It is not the real wireless throughput.

If you need any further assistance, please feel free to contact our tech support at (800)652-6776 or write an email to " support@edimax.us " directly.

2 out of 5 eggsunreliable connection

This review is from: Edimax EW-7438RPn V2 300Mbps Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender, Repeater, Wireless Bridge, Access Point, Wall Plug design, Smart LED Signal Indicator, Easy iQSetup by Smart Phone (No CD Required)

Pros: small, cheap, works well for my iphone

Cons: My windows 8 computer is barely capable of connecting to the network created by the extender. When it does connect, it is a "limited" connection, meaning it cannot get internet access.

Other Thoughts: not sure why there is such a difference between devices. my computer has no problem with other networks.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear customer,

We are sorry that your computer gets a "limited" connection while connects to extender.

You may try the following to manage the wireless profiles,
1. If your Win8 has a touch screen, swipe in from the right edge of the screen of your Windows 8, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.

If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.

2.Tap or click Network, tap or click Connections, tap or click Known WiFi networks. You will see your wireless profiles. One of them should be the profile for the extender. Tap or click on the extender network. Tap on click on Forget. This will forget the wireless extender network.

Search for wireless networks and re-connect to the extender. Enter the wireless security password which is used in your main WiFi network.

If the above does not help out, please feel free to contact our tech support at (800)652-6776 or write an email to " support@edimax.us " directly.
