5 out of 5 eggsLifetime Warranty

Pros: It works. The construction seems to be of above average quality. NewEgg lists the warranty as one year. This is WRONG! The paperwork that comes with the unit says it is lifetime (for as long as you own the product). A couple of my PCs which only operated at 100Mbps with my old switch now connect at 1.0Gbps like the other PCs on my network.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: As usual I used the NewEgg reviews to help me choose which switch to buy. The Lynksys SR2016 I was replacing obviously had become an extremely failure prone piece of @#%*. I almost passed up this HP switch because of the 1 year warranty. I went with it because of it being rated so highly. I'm glad I did. I recommend this device. The warrantee is lifetime.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for Mixed Network Environment

Pros: This switch improved our network performance: IT DOES EVERYTHING BETTER! This switch is absolutely the best switched we have ever installed. Jumbo frames (packets up to 9Kb, will become standard), no problem - does not care. I would say this thing was meant for mixed network environments.
At our Headquarters, we have all kinds of networking equipment, serious HIPAA servers, Web-Ready TVs, Personal Laptops Mac and PC, Desktops and game consoles, a bunch of wireless devices, etc.. Old switch was struggling to carry all mixed packets and data around.. This one, pffft.. absolute preformance. IT JUST WORKS as stated!

PS3 reports "Open NAT" now - no restrictions. No more random game logouts.
Servers that now download central updates from the computer at 680Kb/s! (Old Netgear router LAN speed during the same updates was about 38Kb/s)
Desktops actually see each other - Mac and PC in STAR topology.
DHCP server never looses client connection anymore, another problem solved. I could go

Cons: Would have liked the Status Lights on one side, Cables on other, but hey.. no biggie. (Status lights show 10/100/1000 and FDIX link).

Other Thoughts: Has ports for Fiber too.. Nice! Runs VERY COOL and VERY VERY QUIET.
Uses standard IEC cable for power, No Transformers or anything. Same power cable that your computer uses for power.
In use for over a year, all ports working! You can even manipulate the level of LED status lights.. Very good switch for any mixed game/business environment.

3 out of 5 eggsBad Ports...

Pros: Great price for a great gigabit, unmanaged switch.

Cons: Ports 18 and 20 have already died after 60 days. Requesting RMA from HP Procure support. Pretty sad really...

Other Thoughts: Bought this switch based upon other's reviews. I am really surprised two of the ports have gone bad already. I will think twice about buying Procurve switches in the future.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Switch

Pros: Fast, reliable and extremely stable.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Do not waste your time with regular consumer switches. Most will not handle multiple HD streams negotiating between gigabit and 10/100 ethernet.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Switch

Pros: The HP J9078A is by far the best non maintained 24 port switch we have in operation in our medium LAN/WAN network. Very fast. Very reliable. Silent Operation. Energy efficient. Runs much cooler as comparable Linksys switches,
that is, after Cisco broke the original Linksys design

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Given the excellent price - performance ratio for the HP J9078A, the price Newegg charges is a bargain.
We are going to use more of these in our network.
Job well done HP !

5 out of 5 eggsBEST SWITCH!

Pros: I've used this switch for over 6months its been running my home network (~10 connected devices) straight. It is very quiet and the lifetime warranty makes it even better!.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: I am not a networking guru but this allowed me to transfer gigs worth of media files around my house.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat so far!

Pros: I'm no expert but this switch is very responsive and easy to hook up! No fans = perfectly quiet! Lifetime warrently as long as you own the product.

Cons: I mounted this switch in a closet with some breathing room but still feels a couple degrees warmer when I open the door. The switch remains warm but nothing alarming!

Other Thoughts: I recently wired my house with Cat6a cable with 2 runs to each room totaling 16 runs. I connected my wireless router, gigabit NAS, network printer, 4 computers, media center PC, 2 media center extenders and homerun HD dual tv tuners without any problems so far! Which leaves me four ports to spare! I bought this product to replace 2 linksys gigabit "green" routers connected together. I can't wait for 10GB routers to become mainstream, and when it does I'll be ready with the installed Cat6a cable! :)
