5 out of 5 eggsGood Value

Pros: Works well, easy to use, reliable, priced well, decent feature set

Cons: Wish it had a couple more features

Other Thoughts: Most of my network is built on these and their 48-port siblings -- I think I've got 8 of the 24s and 2 of the 48s. They are a great value -- strong reliability, decent VLAN management, simple interface, and a very good price. If they had a little bit more in terms of features (maybe real spanning tree or something like that), they would be even better. I sometimes wonder if I should've gone for the 1910 instead, but I'm really happy with how "set it and forget it" these have been. Plus they work great with multiple VLANs.

If you're on a budget and need a good gigabit switch that can do VLANs and a few other features (Jumbo Frames), this is a great value, and definitely worth getting.

4 out of 5 eggsVery nice switch, lowzy web interface

Pros: This is a well made switch. Just the right features and no fans!

Cons: The web interface is horrific! Items are poorly organized, and difficult to find what you are looking for. In addition to this 1810G-24, I also have an older 1800-24G which has a far superior web interface.

Other Thoughts: NOTE: while the interface is awkward, it is not a deal-breaker, still a really nice switch.

5 out of 5 eggsLOVE this switch

Pros: Easy to use for the average user. Just plug and go for the most part.
Upgrading and backing up the firmware was a piece of cake! (see other thoughts!)

It's FAST.

VERY relibable so far. I've only had to reboot it once and that was for a firmware update.
System Up Time 46 days, 0 hours, 25 mins, 53 secs

Cons: Cons? at this price for this performance and these features???

Other Thoughts: Read the friendly manual folks, or at the very least the quick setup guide that's included! It helped me quickly find out how to login to the UI via web browser.

This is now my goto switch for SOHO environments that don't require POE.

Bottom line, this switch is quiet and reliable. do a bit of searching and you'll quickly discover that it's hard to get all the features and quality under 300 bux

5 out of 5 eggsGood Stuff

Pros: Fanless, tons of ports, easy web interface for configuration, very fast and efficient. Got tired of consumer switches failing after a year so I bought an enterprise switch instead. Lifetime warranty!

Cons: Upgrading the firmware took a bit of reading; you have to perform the steps in a specific order and you're left with a strange configuration afterwards (two slots for firmware, but only one of them can be new and the other must be legacy??).

Power cable is on the wrong side, there's plenty of empty panel on the side with the ports, why not put the power outlet on the same side so I get a clean front panel?

Wish I had more options for network security configuration, rather than an "all on, all off" checkbox.

Other Thoughts: I went through all my computers and upgraded the NIC drivers and verified the settings were optimal. Copying from/to a RAID array and an SSD caps a gigabit link. Wish I had multi-port NICs!

Pros: Great switch. LACP works well. NO Fan! Quiet!! Wonderful warranty. Can't go wrong.

Cons: It does get hot due to no fan.

Other Thoughts: Buy it!

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice switch

Pros: Very fast, works great for my QNAP to leverage 802.3ad link aggregation pushing theoretical limits of dual 1Gbe connections. I also bought the 48-port version for our desktop network.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I don't know if it's intended to be a SAN switch, but I bought it solely for the link aggregation feature and it has surpassed expectations.

4 out of 5 eggsgood value

Pros: Inexpensive managed switch. Has no fan to make noise or fail. Does not generate much heat. Web UI is adequate. Does what a switch should and works reliably. Supports jumbo frames.

Cons: No CLI or serial port. 10/100 only. Initial IP address is hardcoded, not set by DHCP.

Other Thoughts: As the other comments suggest, be sure to update the firmware on this unit before using it.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: Does what it is supposed to do, but you got to know what you are doing. For example, be aware of its firmware updates (P.1.20 and P.2.2). Upgrade it right away.

Cons: Cost, but considering other switches that I have tried with the same price, this one is the BEST!

Other Thoughts: Its LACP is incredible. I was able to double my bandwidth in a matter of a second (considering, of course, that I have Intel's NIC with double ports as well).
Beautiful Product!

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Works very well, Once you get into the switch config. No where in the docs did it state that only once computer can be connected to it or Router for that matter. Once all other junk disconnected, easy to set IP and subnet to allow my entrence into the beautiful and simple to understand menu system of the procurve.

Cons: Documentation seems a bit vague here and there, they tried, but failed to mention the one dificulty in connecting and setting up config. I love the AD and..oh yea, in the config you can enable Jumbo frames, not mentioned in documentation or marketng stuff.

Other Thoughts: Kicken switch for the money. I get 6ms avg. access times, it that normal? I was hoping for faster. I get 2ms to 16ms range from a ping back.

5 out of 5 eggsSuper Quiet

Pros: Aside from all the actual technical features, something rarely mentioned in reviews are how loud a switch is. Some of them could rival a jet plane taking off. Now that might not matter for a data center or an isolated closet, but for many small business environments there are going to be people working near your switches. This one is actually FANLESS, and therefore makes absolutely no noise! Awesome.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: How you can have a fanless switch at one end of the spectrum and a multi-fan screaming machine on the other is beyond me. Do they put tiny loud fans in just to make it seem like a serious "datacenter-grade" piece of hardware?
