5 out of 5 eggsBest refurb product I've ever bought

Pros: It was refurbed, so I took a calculated risk, but I'm glad I did. Two years later my ASUS AC1750 router is still going strong and I hope to get another few years out of it.

Price point on the refurb was a much better deal than getting it brand new.

Cons: The 5Ghz range could be a little better

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible QA

Pros: If you get a good one it's a nice device

Cons: I don't know if NewEgg or Asus is responsible for the "refurbishment" of these but I am not impressed. I ordered two of these and one of them still had a previous owners config loaded on it so I highly doubt it was tested for functionality. On the second one the 5ghz Radio was DOA so I had to get it RMA replaced. Just received the replacement and this one still has a previous owners config on it. Yes factory reseting a Router is easy but they should come out of the box without someone elses' config on them.

1 out of 5 eggsBeware of Refurb Routers

Pros: Very good coverage and speed when it worked.

Cons: Failed after short warranty expired. It gets very hot causing it to lock up.
Really disappointed in this product after owning severa very good Asus routers including the RT-N66R which this replaced.

Other Thoughts: If you do purchase really try stress test in before the warranty runs out. There appears to be an issue which I suspect is why there are so many refurbs.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Seamus,

We want to extend our sincerest apology for any inconvenience this has caused you. I certainly understand your concern regarding the overheating router and warranty process. In regards to the overheating router, please use the following troubleshooting steps to adjust the power to avoid overheating or please place the router in a cool, ventilated and dry area.

Step 1. Please access the router interface, to access it, please open a browser and type into your address bar 192.168.1.1 and if it's asking "Authentication required" please key in your router log in.
Step 2. On the router interface, please look "Wireless" under "Advance Settings, " > click the Professional tab> please scroll down and look for "TX Power Adjustment" as default it's currently 100mW, please put it to 70/80mW, then click apply and reboot the router.

For the latest firmware version of this model, please try to upgrade it manually, you can download that on our website at support.asus.com.

1 out of 5 eggsStopped Working

Pros: Security is good with options for multiple passwords for different bands. Signal strength is fantastic!

Cons: Only lasted under two years versus my D-Link that I had previous for 6 years and was still going. I just wanted to upgrade. During the under two years there were many problems from day one. Every couple months I had to change settings because the speed would drop to 2-3 GB while connected to the modem directly I was getting 17 GB. To spend 150.00 like I did and it go out less then two years I probably won't be buying a ASUS again.

Other Thoughts: I was hoping ASUS would understand but there customer service was very bad at the time but seems like they may have improved a little from my last call but Still not help me on this Junk router.

1 out of 5 eggsI like ASUS, but be wary of the refurbs.

Pros: When they work, they work well. I had a RT-AC66R running in media bridge mode connected to an RT-AC68U. When connected, it would run for months without issue. Never had to reset either router. The Netgear WNCE4004 media bridge would always need to be reset.

Cons: Reliability is suspect, especially on refurbished systems. My first
AC66R refurb lasted a couple years, but my APC Back UPS XS1500 threw an F02 error and shut down. After that, the router was too flaky to use. I ordered a refurb to replace it, but on arrival, the 5G was only reading 90dBm from about 3 ft away with Wifi Analyzer. I also couldn't connect to it using 5G, so it is going back.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear David,

Thank you for your time on posting this review, we are sorry to hear your experience with the ASUS router. Please allow me to assist you.

I understand that you are disappointed by the router's performance that's why you are returning it. However, have you tried updating or downgrading the router's firmware? changing settings like changing channel bandwith or repositioning the router just to try to fix the router's connection issue.

If there is anything else that I can help or assist you with your unit, please email me at customerloyalty@asus.com and put case #N151066047 in the subject line for a reference. 1 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware!

Pros: Worked great for about 9 months.

Cons: Router suddenly died and I didn't realize there was only a 90 day warranty. I called Asus to see if there was anything they could do, they were less than useless. And to anyone considering buying this here's a little info that Newegg or Asus fails to disclose, the 90 day warranty starts the day it leaves Asus, NOT the day you purchase it. So if it sits in a Newegg warehouse for 3 months, there is no warranty. My warranty expired 2 weeks after I bought the card. This came straight from Asus support.

Other Thoughts: I love Asus products, I have several, but this has left such a bad taste in my mouth that I have eliminated Asus video cards from my upcoming purchase of one, and I seriously doubt I will ever buy Asus again.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Michael,

Thank you for your time on posting this review, we are sorry to hear your experience with the ASUS router. I know that you are disappointed with the device. Please allow me to assist you.

1 out of 5 eggsSave your money

Pros: Looks great, worked nicely while it worked.

Cons: Didn't work for very long. It was overheating and stopped working until I disconnected it for an hour or more and reset everything to get it going again for a few minutes. It has great features however doesn't execute well its primary function. I don't recommend this model if you're going to move into the AC class routers. There's better out there.

Other Thoughts: Don't waste your money. I bought it and have regrets since.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Dariusz,

Thank you for your time on posting this review, we are sorry to hear your experience with the ASUS router. Please allow me to assist you.

First can we have the unit's serial number for me to check it's warranty and in case I need to process an RMA. How many hours do you usually use the router? are you only using it for wireless connection? please check if there's any loose physical connection that can cause the router from overheating.

1 out of 5 eggsdo not buy

Pros: none

Cons: never worked right always restarting itself tried all different firmware which was difficult because of the restarting issue new egg will not provide support or take product back because it is refurbished asus support could not help or take product back without a fee I was told the issue of the router restarting itself should have been known $150 in the trash bummer

Other Thoughts: I cant remember purchasing refurbished products in the past but this will be my last

new egg has been great to deal with on new products that dont work unfortunately not for refurbished products

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Bryan,

Thank you for posting this review and for using one of our products. I want to apologize for the inconvenience it has caused you. I understand that you're having an issue with the router firmware. To isolate this case, have you tried to update the firmware version and do a factory reset to see if that will help with the issue? If not, can you please try to do it manually upgrading the firmware version.

First, download the latest version on this link: http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=RT-AC66R&p=11&s=2

Here's the steps for manually upgrading the firmware version:
1. Click "Global" to download.
2. Once it successfully downloaded, please extract the file.
3. Plug in the router to PC hardwired, please access the router interface using 192.168.1.1 and key in your username & password for your router log in (as default the username and password is admin/admin).
3. On your router interface, please look "Administration" under Advance Settings and click the Firmware Upgrade tab.
4. Administration - Firmware Upgrade, please click "Choose File" (make sure that the file that you are going to uploading is the "Extract File") then click Upload.
5. Once it's completed, please hard reset the router to update the router settings. Make sure to create a new different Wireless Name/SSID for 2.4GHz and 5GHz to avoid wireless conflict. You can still provide the same password for your Wi-Fi.

If the problem still persists, please email me at customerloyalty@asus.com and put case # N151038263 in the subject line for your reference.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat router

Pros: This is a great router. I didn't pay an arm and a leg for it and haven't had any major issues in over a year of ownership. It reaches every part of my house great except for the master bedroom, which is the furthest point from the router and I have a lot of things that could interfere with the signal (plaster walls, other signals, etc).

Cons: Sometimes I will lose signal in areas of the house that I know have good strength. This is likely just from something interfering with the signal and I just need to tinker with the antennas or buy a range extender (like another of these!)

1 out of 5 eggsBRICKED

Pros: Bought it a few months ago and was very happy with the range and speed. I have a 4 story townhouse so I needed a nice router to get wireless to the other floor and this one finally got the job done.

Cons: Woke up this morning to find it totally BRICKED! Do not buy this product its not worth it. I'm now stuck with a 150 dollar paper weight and no internet. The WAN, 1, and 2 port lights are stuck on. I have tried everyting, computer wont even connect to ports.

90 day warranty is not long enough, just save your money and get something else.

VERY UNHAPPY!!!

Other Thoughts: The refurbished 90 day warranty is not long enough and if I just went with a new one It would be covered.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Matthew,

I want to thank you for posting this review and we are sorry to hear your experience with the unit. On behalf of ASUS we apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused you. Please allow me to assist you, can I have a detailed information about the products issue? please try to powercycle the router then turn it on again and press the reset button of the router for 8 seconds to reset the router and try to set it up again and check if the issue is still the same. Also how is the wirec connection of the router?
