5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG105 Unmanaged 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Metal Case, Power-Saving

Pros: Works Great, Runs Cool

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I had an old Netgear that was a 10/100. It got hit from a lightning strike that took out one of the ports. My HP has a 2 gbs networking card in it. I bought this and hooked it up. It auto senses speed and connected with the 1 gbs instantly. After it had been running for a couple of hours I felt of the case and the power supply. Both were cool to the touch. The old one and it's power supply was always very warm to the touch. This makes me believe that it is using less power than the old one.
I would recommend and I would buy this brand again as needed.

5 out of 5 eggsUnmanaged Switch

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG105 Unmanaged 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Metal Case, Power-Saving

Pros: Price got it on sale for $15. Nice metal Case. Working non stop since 2014 January. Just plug and play.

Cons: not managed switch, TP-LINK TL-SG105E managed switch would cost around $35 but does comes with VLAN etc

Other Thoughts: I had only one Ethernet port wall-jack near my TV, I bought this to connect my Smart TV, WDTV media player and the Satellite receiver. Its sites in the back of the tv stand and since its small hardly visible also the metal case design well blend with the rest of the systems. This switch connects to my Dlink 24 port smart switch, so far working good. I watch Movies 1080p or 720p from my server as well as watch Netflix without any issues.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked right of the box

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG105 Unmanaged 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Metal Case, Power-Saving

Pros: Was plug and play

Cons: None so far I will see how it performs long term

Other Thoughts: I hate networking. So I only connected this when I ran out of ports on my router. I didn't want to have to deal with trouble shooting network connections. I attached my D-link NAS device and the Synology NAS device I finally got around to configuring. Plugged everything in and everything showed up exactly as expected.

5 out of 5 eggsSmall, but powerful

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG105 Unmanaged 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Metal Case, Power-Saving

Pros: Small footprint, 1 Gbps data rate, easy to install and hide out of site.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I have this on my desk to save me from running extra Cat5 data lines from my main router. It works wonderfully with my camera server and my regular PC.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG105 Unmanaged 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Metal Case, Power-Saving

Pros: LEDs that give speed/in use information
As fast as it should be
Compact
Solid case
Stays cool
Convenient little rubber feet or mounting holes.

Using this with 3 HP network laser printers and a computer with an internet network connection.

Cons: None really...

Other Thoughts: It would be cool if some of these network switches could enter a standby mode during which the LEDs turn off completely and the units shuts off until "awakened" by a data request from the devices connected when turned on. Just a thought...

Oh, and if you ever have issues with an HP printer and USB and Windows, just get a network cable & switch and do it that way, the drivers work WAY smoother and faster and it only takes seconds to be recognized and installed. I have spent days getting a number of HP printers to work on new Windows operating systems with USB to no complete success for most of them. This comes from someone who owns 11 HP laser business printers old and new with multiple Windows operating systems. Oh, and just a note, this does not apply to Apple, they all work perfectly with USB on Macs...
