4 out of 5 eggsGood Switch

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG105 Unmanaged 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Metal Case, Power-Saving

Pros: - Works Well
- Gigabit
- Cheap
- Well made metal construction

Cons: - High pitched whine noticeable in a quiet room about 2-3 feet away.
- Inconvenient arrangement of power port on the opposite side as the LAN ports, but it's not a big deal to me.

Other Thoughts: I tucked it behind my desk and don't notice the whine once I start up a game/music.

1 out of 5 eggsPacket and connection loss

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG105 Unmanaged 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Metal Case, Power-Saving

Pros: Worked great while it lasted.

Cons: Switch has started to drop packets and connections. a PING resulted in "Request Timed Out" or "Destination Host Unreachable".
I replaced this switch with a slower but known working one and the problems went away.

Other Thoughts: I must of have gotten a bad unit. I bought one of these as an upgrade for my network.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsReliable metal switch

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG105 Unmanaged 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Metal Case, Power-Saving

Pros: Been rock solid stable. Running 24/7 for over a year now.

Cons: Would prefer the power and network ports be on the same side. But that's nitpicking.

Other Thoughts: Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 eggsdid exactly what i wanted it to do

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG105 Unmanaged 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Metal Case, Power-Saving

Pros: - Great plug and play
- Easy and quick set up
Small design that will just about fit anywhere. Overall great little switch.

Cons: Only thing i have to say that would be a negative is that if you put it on a desk or a table you have cables coming out of both sides of the switch so a little bit more cable management. nothing to take a egg off for tho.

Other Thoughts: Overall not a bad little gigabit switch. I used CAT6 cable with this switch.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Price, Bad Coil Whine

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG105 Unmanaged 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Metal Case, Power-Saving

Pros: -Connected at GB speeds to all devices as easily as a switch is supposed to
-Good price

Cons: -Serious coil whine coming from the power plug. If it weren't across the room from me it would be unbearable. I don't recommend this for any situation where the wall plug will be near the user.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat switch aside from a couple details

This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG105 Unmanaged 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch, Metal Case, Power-Saving

Pros: Solid performance. Couldn't ask for much better.

Cons: Unfortunately, there is an annoying high-pitched noise coming from the power adapter. It isn't quiet either: I have it by my desk, however I can hear the screeching from across the room! If you have good hearing this may bother you.

I know the power slot is typically in the back as it should be, but I think even if it was mounted, it might actually be better in the front for a small switch, at least in my case.

Other Thoughts: Putting the switch down made wrapping the cord around the back kind of awkward and almost didn't even reach the outlet. Still, it is a typical setup, but as I would imagine these switches are near workstations or multiple devices, maybe an exception could be made? Oh well, not too big of deal; still worth the buy.
