Support / Hardware issues
- Pros: I own a similar product (not this exact model).
I liked it a lot when it worked. Was a nice upgrade to a 4 year old thinkpad I had.
- Cons: 1) DVD drive was DOA - had to RMA (they were very fast with the shipping, customer support was good)
2) DVD faceplate broke, and...just like a different reviewer, they sent me the incorrect part at first... 3) The battery died after exactly 1 year and 4 months. The warranty for the battery is 1 year, and can't be extended (even if you purchase an extended warranty).
- Other Thoughts: I had a very high opinion of lenovo support at first, but they just seem completely disorganized. For example, they have two separate serial number systems going on on their website, so 10 digit serial numbers are incompatable with 7 digit ones. Also, they have like 10 different ways to access your computer's "Parts Information" page, each of which shows a different page... Lenovo needs a bit of work yet
Great computer!
- Pros: -Flat out looks fantastic
-Runs decently well, I'll go over that -INCREDIBLE graphics and screen res, for the price of course. -Has met all my expectations, but one -If you're looking for a "cheap" (I hate that word) computer that runs everything decently well, but isn't overdone, this is it for you.
I'm 16, and I paid for half of this computer, after I earned about $500 for this, a mouse, and a pad. This is an amazing computer, that outdoes some of my friends far more expensive computers.
- Cons: The only REAL problem I've had is the processor speed. It does have 4GB of RAM, but the processor makes it feel more like 2 or 3GB.
I am a gamer, and I wanted a cheaper laptop because I was paying. This computer can't run GTA:IV for example, which is very graphically demanding, but that's not a HUGE deal. I definitely could get nitpicky, like how the mouse pad scroller hates me, I !!always!! set off the function key (but I have a mouse now), and there's no numpad for Garry's Mod, unless you use the function key.
- Other Thoughts: For those who bought this, and are reading THERE IS A NUMPAD, it's just hidden inside the keyboard. Not really hidden, but you it overlaps the keys, not good for number crunching but is good for gaming. This computer is a bit of a print magnet, OH WELL.
Buy this computer, it's beyond worth it for the price! Unless you're rich and want one that exceeds your expectations, buy this computer. People might say the Customer Support is non-existent, but I haven't had to speak with them about anything and I've had this computer for a few months, and it got BANGED AROUND in the back of my car with NO CASE (smart I know).
Great specs for the price
- Pros: Running Win 7 Ultimate with Aero and I have yet to present this system with a significant challenge. I use it as a work laptop, which means not so much on games, but a lot a lot of multitasking; business apps, itunes, video playback. Hasn't bogged down once. A "business-series" notebook with these specs would set you back $1500, but this suits my needs just fine, although of course an OS license upgrade is needed.
Converting this to Windows 7 manually was relatively easy. Lenovo provides a full set of drivers, although I had to kiss off some of the preinstalled apps, like a cool one that uses the camera to identify your face and use that as a login passkey.
The screen is big and bright. The design is very attractive. The placement of connectors and keys is very nice.
I really like the volume-adjustment keys. My old laptop had a volume adjust that was a strip that you stroke, but this has buttons. Much preferred.
- Cons: It took me a little while to figure out that the scroll on the touchpad is done by stroking the far right of the pad, not the stripe down that side that looks like a scroll bar.
& I guess the inability to download the preinstalled apps, especially now, on the cusp of the Windows 7 launch, is unfortunate.
