3 out of 5 eggsLenovo Components are good

Pros: Components are good so far the components on the laptop has not failed me. System is still working past one year.

Cons: Heat on the laptop could is not dissipating dissipating as quickly. The plastics on the laptop is not well made, on the first 8 months of the laptop the plastics tore off on the sides. I am currently on the market for the Samsung RF511

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome.

Pros: Works Beautifully. Fast, responsive, powerful.

Cons: Battery life is rather short, unless you kill the performance, but that's to be expected.

It gets rather hot if I leave it on with the lid closed.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Great graphics for the price, good sound quality (built-in 2.1 dolby digital surround), Core i7 720QM processor == fast, fast, FAST. Veriface logon is super-cool. I purchased a Y560 from Lenovo, it had similar specs and was newer, but bluescreened on me all the time due to hardware conflicts caused by the ATI graphics card- traded it for this one because it had a comparable Nvidia card, and had no bluescreens since. Nvidia- accept NO substitutes.

Cons: No recovery media and useless recovery partition, included backup software is a joke. Hard drive sometimes gets stuck during seeking and starts clicking, requires me to beat my computer until it stops- hdd will need to be replaced soon, I can feel it.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall Quality Laptop, but with some quirks

Pros: Overall a quality laptop (although durability remains to be seen as I haven't owned it too long). The fast processer and solid video card are great for the price (it's great to have a laptop that can run cad software without much flakiness). Also, although the battery is far weaker than I would like, the lenovo power management can crank out 3 hours when it's new (on ultra-power-saver)

Cons: There are a number of quirks to this laptop. Obv reformat after purchase (but that is a general statement). Battery seems ridiculously small for the laptop's size. Two USBs on the right side is also kinda annoying.

Also, this just got me in a bind for the past 4 hours, but there are a number of ways to turn off your wireless connection: the front switch on the front and F5, which can also turn it off). There seems to be a lot of under-the-hood potential issues to know about.

Other Thoughts: Despite the quirks, I'm relatively happy with it (acts as a portable desktop with some annoyances that a desktop wouldn't have) and would recommend. But make sure none of those are dealbreakers for you.

4 out of 5 eggsgreat price

Pros: bought this to upgrade from my 5 year old sager. HDMI and Esata are nice to have. great camera, and bluetooth, plays starcraft 2 on ultra (highest settings possible) on 32" phillips tv its pushing 85fps

Cons: cant get the optical to write over 6x, with 3 different brands of 16x disks, I often max out all cores of the 1.6ghz with task that my 3.0 single core sager had no problem with.

Other Thoughts: great buy for the price, when hooked to tv the lcd gets refresh lines.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat First Laptop

Pros: The best feature of this laptop is its CPU. It processes everything very quickly and I've never had an issue multitasking. The graphics card is sufficient for casual gamers like myself. I recently purchased SC2 and I can run everything on medium-hi, which looks decent. You won't be able to run anything with high shader & shadow detail though. My antilasing settings are somewhat low too. Other than that I can run nearly every setting at it's maximum. The integrated sound card is great too and works well with my 5.1 surround sound system that I connect it to. I also like to hook up my 24inch BenQ monitor to it via HDMI so I could put less wear on my LCD when I'm at home, and because bigger is awesome. I'm also satisfied with the 500GB HDD despite the fact that it's only 5000rpm. All my programs (with the exception of & MATLAB-30 sec) boot up in 5 seconds or less. Start up takes about 1 min from powering on to fully logged in and operational.

Cons: The video card would have to be my biggest complaint with this computer. For one, the drivers weren't installed properly on this computer since the video card driver would temporarily crash, and would do so occasionally and unpredictably. This was REALLY annoying, even though it never significantly impacted my computer productivity in any way. Also, because of the faulty driver I'd have to change my display settings each time it booted up because it would reset itself each time I re-booted the computer. It was a minor inconvenience.

Other Thoughts: I've had my laptop completely crash only about 3 times, but I think that it was due to the fact that I happened to connect a device to my computer while a program was booting up or going through a critical loading period. However, it's very versatile and quite slim. The fan is quite unless I'm running a game like SC2. I ended up buying a cooling plate too (coolermaster V8) since the fan blows out very hot air when i'm running a very GPU & CPU intensive program. (I had my plastic water bottle 2 inches from it for 30 min once and the air was hot enough to expand and deform the bottle). All that being said I think this has been and will continue to be a very solid and reliable laptop.

4 out of 5 eggsvery good laptop

Pros: Works great. I put in a 500gb 7200 so i decided to install win7 64 pro and it works great and is fast.

Cons: When i bought it in Jan the lid was really tight so after about 2 month of using it 7 days a week i noticed the screen would wobbel when i moved it to my lap. i noticed the one hinge moved weird when it opened so i popped off the speaker cover and the screws had worked loose i tightened them up and now i leave the lid open i dont want to have to pop the speaker cover off again. i do think the hinges are a little looser after being used to 8 months but i still dont close it much unless i move it.

2 out of 5 eggsTerrible Customer Service

Pros: The laptop itself is excellent, very fast, just what I was looking for.

Cons: Lenovo warranty support is the worst I have ever dealt with. I sent in the laptop for repair of a minor problem, and then heard nothing about it for a whole month. At this point I called in to find out what was going on, and after two hours on the phone with them, they finally told me that the laptop was on hold pending more information. They never called me to ask me the information, instead waiting a month for me to call in. So my laptop is finally (hopefully) being repaired.

Other Thoughts: Warranty service is based in South Asia and is a nightmare!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Buy

Pros: Obvious pros:

Core i7 (keep in mind this is a lower spec'd mobile version)
4GB 1066 DDR3
Solid build quality (see other thoughts)
HDMI
Speakers w/ "mini" sub
HD Res (although is is only 1366 x 768)
Decent video card

Perhaps some not-so-obvious pro's:

eSATA
Built in web-cam
Secondary back-up partition for clean installs (have used this feature many, many times)

I've had this laptop for approx. 4mo now and I enjoy it more every day. My primary usage is gaming, browsing, and a bit of media encoding. This puppy could easily become your desktop replacement. I take just about every where with me: school, work, road trips, bathroom (yes, yes I know...) and it's always been reliable. The i7 is a beast. I have as many as 20-30 tabs open at a time between Chrome, Opera, and Firefox, am constantly playing Netflix, or watching an HD flick and it never skips a beat, I have a tough time utilizing more than 40% of the available resources.

Cons: Some minor con's here, but nothing that would keep me from rating this less than 5 eggs (obviously). It runs warm, sometimes hot. I don't have a cooling pad, but I keep a large, but slim, book underneath it anytime I am using it in bed or on the couch. You'll find this mostly when gaming. After installing a benchmarking utility I found that while gaming, regardless of the game, the 240m will pretty much run at a constant 99%, which in turn boost the heat export quite a bit. I've seen GPU temps at as much as 79C.
Only 2 USB ports, and they are both on the right side. Poor placement if you ask me as most users are right handed and plugs and/or dongles will get in the way from time to time.
HDD is only rated at 5400RPM which isn't a huge concern. She cold boots in less than a minute, and will restart in under 45 seconds. Plus, with the i7 she's incredibly fast.
Battery life is pretty pitiful. Simply playing music for an hour can widdle it down to 50%. (Remember: desktop replacement!)

Other Thoughts: Although I rated the build quality as high, there does seem to be a small gap forming near the left sided I/O ports. It's totally possible that they were there when I bought her, but I may have simply over looked it.

Just to note something quickly about bang-for-your-buck...

I purchased this from a retailer other than Newegg. While I was shopping I noticed that either Lenovo was having some killer deals, or certain retailers were having some fire sales. This model has been "replaced" by the Y560P, so perhaps that is the reason I was able to find it at a lesser cost, but for those of you seriously considering this laptop, there are some great deals to be had, still (I just checked...) Shop around. Some major retailers actually carry this exact model in stores, and I always recommend trying before buying if possible. All-in-all, a fantastic buy, future proof and can easily replace a desktop. For you gamers, I haven't met a recent game I couldn't run a max settings. Enjoy!

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast laptop with a good display. Windows 7 is pretty nice.

Cons: This laptop's processor overheats a lot. I bought a cooling pad even with it running i can't play games such as COD:MW2, Bioshock, or Assassin's Creed to name a few. Even doing simple tasks such as playing flash games or surfing the internet will cause it to overheat without the use of a cooling pad. The graphics card also tends to get very hot when doing anything graphics intensive.Other than that it sucks up tons of battery, if it's fully charged you would be lucky to get 2 hours out of it.

Other Thoughts: It does most of what i need it to do but I'm pretty disappointed with it. I suggest looking for another.
