1 out of 5 eggsDont buy any Lenovo with this case

Pros: Good laptop, if not for that terrible case and hinge mounting design

Cons: The left side hinge, which also feed the display cable to the TFT, is simply junk. I had a slight break on mine which was not readily apparent as the hinge simply articulates back a little. This led to an intermittent short on the display wire/connector, leading to all sorts of problems with the display.

Because of the way this went down I many hours trying to resolve what I though were display driver issues, and tft panel issues.

A lot of looking on-line clearly demonstrates that this is a very common problem with this laptop. I am convinced it is a faulty design - I would advise you steer clear of any Leno laptop with a case that looks like this one.

I am so upset at all the hassle this has caused, and lack of taking responsibility by Lenovo I now avoid their products.

1 out of 5 eggsUnstable Graphics Card

Pros: Fast processor, good for rendering.

Cons: The graphics card is extremely unstable for any pro-level applications - photoshop, illustrator, rhino, auto cad, etc. Do not buy if you would use these applications.

Other Thoughts: This computer is ok for gaming, but only ok.

2 out of 5 eggsy560

Pros: very quick, stable in almost any application...most of the time. good quality speakers...most of the time.

Cons: since i got my y560 i've had video driver problems. had plenty of blue screens due to them, i'll get random messages saying the drivers failed, etc. had to reformat recently because it just got so messed up i had to start all over again. also recently, when i'm listening to music or playing a game, the left speaker will cut out for a while randomly. the left screen hinge is also not working properly (it's really loose) and it's not from mishandling it, the construction is just poor. i've come across 2 other y560's with the same driver and hinge issues. the surface is also smudge-happy, the computer sometimes wakes itself up in the middle of the night (even when hibernate is disabled), and of course all these problems just reach a point to where i'd want to return it (the speaker was the last straw) when it's a month out of warranty. boo.

Other Thoughts: it's got a lot of potential, but a lot of problems.

5 out of 5 eggsLaptop is awesome

Pros: Got this just intime to replace my old desktop machine that died within 2 weeks. Was a relaible gamming machine from the start able to play games such as Wow as it came from the factory. Laptop High performance settings.
Graphics settings: Good - 60 fps; Ultra 30 fps (a little choppy). Speakers are by far above average compared to most laptops.
Screen colors are clear and crisp.

Cons: Battery life is not very good with hard drive and i7 processor. < 2 hours. (High Performance settings)

Originally laptop would hibernate and when woke up screen would display correctly thru the windows splash screen and when veriface was enabling the camera the screen would go black. (Workaround: Closed lid for 15 - 20 seconds and reopened laptop and it would display correctly.)
Can get hot when running high settings. Recommend laptop cooler.
Finger print/smudge magnet. Need to wipe if off regularly.
No Bluetooth. (Got a USB one for cheap from the egg)

Other Thoughts: Issues in the cons have for the most part been remedied thru a couple of hardware upgrades and reinstalling the OS and lenovo built in tools (Lenovo website).
Upgrades made since purchase.

mSATA SSD Installed: Intel 310 Series 80GB mSATA (used as system drive), 500gb used for storage. Y560 Laptop supports mSATA :), from the egg if you can find it in stock.

8 GB DDR3 1333 Installed: G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Laptop Memory Model F3-10600CL9D-8GBSQ

Upgrades pushed this machine to windows experience of 6.7 (limited by Graphics) from 5.4 (limited by 5400 rpm HD)

4 out of 5 eggsBe an educated buyer and this is a Great Deal!

Pros: Unlike most that say they are highly knowledgeable I am a trained PC and laptop repair man with working knowledge. And even I say I have somewhat high knowlege. The only people who should say they are five star genius are computer engineers who design and manufacture the parts themselves. Now with my credibility out of the way onto the review.

Decently light. Decent battery life (about 4.5 hours with wireless on. Maybe more if you turn it off)when you SWITCH off the dedicated graphics. Keyboard feels great when you are typing on it. Really good action on the keys and quiet. I have the i5 version of this. But mine is EXACTLY the same with no difference except the processor that was dropped in. Litterally no other difference. I have tested out Crysis on max. On the i5 version of this and it is actually playable. Playable doesn't mean buttery smooth it just means what you see isn't a slideshow. Modern Warfare series plays great on it. MMOs are easy for this machine. Webcam is good.

Cons: The gloss screen. I really really hate gloss screens. But I had got such a great deal on mine that it was a worthwhile tradeoff. Just understand that any laptop with a gloss screen is geared to be a multimedia laptop. A multimedia laptop is geared towards playing video. Because it imitates a television set

The left and right clicker for the track pad seem just a slight bit wobbly. It still works fine but I like firm buttons. I'm a mouse guy anyway so this doesn't bother me at all. The trackpad itself works fine but it has an odd stick to it. By that I mean that if your finger is hot or damp it will not simply just glide across the surface. Similar to going down a slide and not going as fast for similar reasons.
Speakers could be a slight bit louder but they sound great for a laptop.
That really is everything to the cons. Read more in other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: When you get this laptop as a new buyer the first thought in your mind should be to UPDATE. You will see a slight performance boost if you update and also you'll fix the video driver issue. You will want to update windows first using Windows update then manually update the ATI drivers.
Also the wireless connection from this laptop is hella strong. It is using the Atheros 9000 series. It is a very good chipset and is compatible out of the box with newer linux systems. If you are having trouble with the brightness adjusting by itself it is because there is a power setting which you must adjust and/or turn off. Click bottom right taskbar arrow, orange arrow, settings. Now you can change it.

Pinch and zoom work fine and is responsive. Superficial appearance of windows slowdown is due to the extra drivers running in background to support these extra features. In games it really doesn't matter at all. All in all this laptop is a STEAL right now. Buy it, update it and don't worry so muc

5 out of 5 eggsSeems great to me

Pros: With updated GPU via the AMD website (the 5600/5700 gpu series windows 64 version driver update) I have no BSOD and playing BF BC2 all with high settings with FPS of 40-60 (get 30s during cut scenes)

Cons: Out of the box got the BSOD due to the GPU crashing. I've only had it for a week now but now it's working great with the 15 June 2011 video card driver update via AMD website.

Other Thoughts: Get it maybe? I mean, shop around to make sure it's what you really want since there's so many choices (some other brands have a backlit keyboard with a similar gpu at price point but still gpu a tad slower than the 5730 and not an i7 cpu) but for the bang for the buck this is purty good if you want to play modern games while being able to multi-task and pay less than 800 (got mine new on sale for less than 800).

4 out of 5 eggsits OKAY

Pros: Great for the price
Can play pretty much any game out there

Cons: Bad build quality
Gets hot REALLY FAST (can overheat in some cases)
Frustrating
Not really built to be portable

Other Thoughts: Although this computer is loaded with an i7 and 4gb of DDR3, it really didnt feel as fast, my friend who got the thinkpad edge with an i3 processor actually had a faster time navigating through stuff than i did, which really disappointed me. Being a somewhat hardcore gamer though, i did enjoy the facts that the graphics were really good, i didnt really have to worry about looking on the back of the box to make sure it ran on the laptop, it can run alot of popular games on high quality, though sometimes it would overheat the computer and shut down on me without warning. As a student going into college soon, i know that this would be a bad laptop to take, it really isnt portable and only has about 2 hours on battery life with a 6-cell batter, which really tells you how much power it drains, ive also never been in a situation when this thing wasnt hot, i think i burned some hairs off my thighs. my 4-egg rating is pretty generous, id give it a 3.5 overall.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Speakers are amazing, its hard to believe that sound is coming from a laptop. The Processor is real fast and I have not ran into any problems with only 4 gigs of ram. Comes with facial recognition for logging in or encrypting. Slide bar is also a really cool addition.

Cons: Glossy finish shows every fingerprint. Battery life is about 1-3 hours. No built in bluetooth.

Other Thoughts: I got this laptop as an extension of my desktop and it has been capable of anything I throw its way. I do all of my school work on my laptop and so far it has never had a problem.

1 out of 5 eggsI'd rather drop 2k on a mac...

Pros: Fast processor (so the installed bloatware can crash at the speed of light!!)

Cons: Where to start? No install DVD - hard drive partition would not burn disk so I called lenovo to get a new one (1 hour). They ship me a disk and eventually i get fed up enough with the random crashes to install it. It asks to enter my CD key for windows, no key included, so i use the one on the bottom of the laptop. No dice. Call lenovo for 2 hours after 4 different transfers the best they can do is tell me "I must of installed a pirated version of windows and I will stay on the line and transfer you to microsoft". They dont stay on the line but MS was nice enough to help - explaining this was lenovo's issue but would help me just because. Long story short I installed my own windows because the current disk would not work at all and today I noticed the left hinge for my screen is broken? I mean, I know I only spend $50 on my laptop bag and treat my electronics like my first born but... gosh.

Other Thoughts: It is cheap but you get what you pay for. the keyboard works? I miss the higher quality keyboards on previous macbook/desktop/work laptop. Installed bloatware is a mess. Windows instability from day 1 and it gets worse if you try to uninstall bloatware. I know what a clean W7 install looks like (I put my nice desktop together 1.5 years ago) and this gives me a terrible impression of what to expect.

I guess the moral of the story is build yourself and buy mac laptops (or at least not this piece of junk).

I will write another review after attempting to deal with lenovo warranty..

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Laptop for the right value

Pros: Processor is amazing, I run the most intense games and it only uses about 10 - 25% of usage. Fast too!

GPU is mid-high range. I run all my games fairly high averaging 50-60 fps.

Nice design and pretty thin, it slides easily in my bag and is not bulky at all despite it's wide width

Cons: The "fn" key and left "ctrl" are switched, which makes it awkward for majority of games that use "ctrl".

Tons of bloatware I didn't need, no problem though, just uninstall and forget.

Other Thoughts: Great laptop, you get what you pay for and more.
