1 out of 5 eggsSucks so bad

Pros: The only thing good with it was the price. It is low only because it is JUNK.

Cons: I bought it for my wife a year ago and it has been to MSI four times all with the same problem. the USB jack on the bottom keeps breaking stretching out so that the plug no longer maintains contact and no longer charges or is able to talk to a computer. Having had it for a year and having it work for maybe 6 months of that year, no, this thing is JUNK!

Other Thoughts: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS THING!!! IT IS JUNK!!!

3 out of 5 eggsI really wanted to love it

Pros: As good a display as you are going to find in an 8" Tablet, smooth operation, quick and easy downloads, 4k video player very nice, build quality very high

Cons: No Bluetooth, HDMI does do work and is not available in Display settings, online support is horrible

Other Thoughts: First let me say this, at the price level this unit is at, it is an amazing tablet, but I really was looking forward to the HDMI and it simply is not available, even though the plug is there. Maybe it is because the unit I have is running Android 4.2. There is an update to 4.4 available at MSI, but it appears to be an update for a dual OS Android/Windows 8.1 system, as the software is windows based. Going to the MSI support page, it appears that the Android unit is not really supported. I purchased the unit Brand New, unopened and uploaded my reciept, but so far MSI has not approved my warranty and support availability. I am still waiting for further word from MSI.
The bottom line is this, One Great Tablet, that could be perfect!

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Features: micro-SD card, mini-USB, micro-HDMI, 8" screen, price, responsive.
It did what is claims to be able to do.

Cons: USB port broke, and unable to recharge. I read of others complaining about the USB port. Now, it is a paper weight.
Beware!

Other Thoughts: Difficult to find a case with camera cutout.

If it could be recharged using the HDMI port then all would be fine. Manufacturers should have both ports for recharging.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent for Price

Pros: The tablet runs well for its price tier. Doesn't make it a pain for developers to test apps.

Cons: 1. The battery life is awful. After uninstalling some of the stock software and installing DS Battery Saver, setting it to "Aggressive," the battery life is very good.
2. MSI Global does not adhere to their legal obligation under the GNU Public License to publish the Linux kernel source-code used for this tablet. Even if they don't work on the source code themselves, as the seller of the tablet they are legally obligated to provide any source code protected under GPL, complete and compilable (with build scripts). On Android devices, this specifically refers to the kernel, which in all Android devices is derived from the GPL and falls under the Linux kernel's GPL protections. MSI refuses to release this source code despite such a refusal being against the law and a violation of copyright. Why does this matter? For the average user, it might not. For some developers, however, this is a very big deal and impacts the ability to create software for this device.

Other Thoughts: I contacted MSI regarding the source code issue in the hopes of acquiring said code and porting CyanogenMod to this device. Every time I would submit such a request, MSI would close my support ticket the next day, without even responding! They just closed it and ignored me completely, on multiple occasions. I have begun seeking other avenues for achieving this such as contacting the Linux Foundation and listing this as an uncooperative manufacturer on developer forums, but when other device manufacturers such as Sony consistently comply with this law it becomes frustrating to hit such a wall with someone else.

If you're a developer and want to build something which requires you to have the kernel source for this device (to which you are legally entitled), you should pass this tablet over. You won't get it and you'll only be insulted by MSI's dismissive treatment of their paying customers. If you aren't a developer, this is a decent tablet.

2 out of 5 eggsFree was too much

Pros: It was free.
Great display.
good antenna.

Cons: Systems really seems slow and clunky. Battery usage is higher then expected. System full of useless things that can't be removed. Of the 1gig of storage, over half is used up. trying to find out if there is an upgrade for the OS is like pulling teeth from an alligator.

4 out of 5 eggsImpressive!

Pros: Its very attractive, and the screen, while not terribly high resolution, looks pretty decent. We use it as a remote control for a chromecast (picked it up for just over 50 dollars) and its very responsive, and connects well with everything we use.

The screen is pretty nice when it concerns reading, especially in landscape mode.

Cons: The battery life on this thing is pretty unimpressive. It's a daily charge kind of thing, and I've had it run out of battery while sitting with the screen off doing nothing.

Other Thoughts: The buttons are a bit awkward, but I'm willing to live with it. Since its basically a Chromecast controller with Google Books for reading, it doesn't have to do anything graphics intensive, but it does have a nice responsive interface.

4 out of 5 eggsWarranty Expired on MSI

Pros: 1) It basically works 90% of the time, except mentioned below.
2) With the rebate, $65 is a steal.

Cons: 1) It drains the battery fast if using streaming video.
2) Sometime the power button don't respond.
3) I registered the tablet on MSI but it said the warranty had expired!
4) when battery got down to 60%, opening/starting an app causes reboot!

5 out of 5 eggsLove the size and weight

Pros: I really like the 4:3 ratio 8in tablets. Book reading is better at this size as well as social media and web applications. Flashed the Android 4.4 right away (which went smoothly) and it is running great. Played 1.5 hours of Youtube videos and power dropped about 25%. I'd guess it will run about 5+ hours on a charge.

Good build quality.

Cons: On build quality: You feel a bit of the lip on the metal to screen face transition. And the buttons could really use a better plastic.

Other Thoughts: I definitely recommend upgrading to 4.4 before you even turn on the system. I've had Allwinner CPU based tablets before and the firmwares tend to get better with each version. So running the latest is probably your best bet with this.
