Size matters, no matter what anybody says, and sometimes smaller is better. Especially if you know what to do with it, and Asus does. The Eee PC 900 HA is designed for people that need lots of power in a small package. The Intel Atom N270 CPU and 1GB of memory run this Windows XP system with power to spare.
The 8.9" screen has a 1024x600 resolution. Because of the smaller screen you can easily use it on a plane or train. The screen is driven by the integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics subsystem.
Since the 900HA is designed to be used anywhere there is a built in WiFi controller that supports 802.11b/g protocols. If there is no wireless signal around then you can plug into a standard Fast Ethernet connection. A webcam lets you have video chats.

Finally!
- Pros: -Perfect combo of small size case, screen that uses the whole lid, and hard drive space.
-Atom processor is pretty nice. It is multi-threaded, so shows up as 2 cores in both Device and Task Managers. Keeps up with most computing tasks. -Screen resolution is finally usable; tray utility lets you switch from 1024x600 to 1024x768 and back on the fly. Good for hooking up to projectors for presentations. -Lightweight. -Good battery life (5 hour claim is accurate); battery fully charged within 2-1/2 hours. -Power brick is very small; cords come with velcro straps for easy portability. -Quiet; fan is barely audible during normal usage. -VERY easy to upgrade RAM and HDD, and won't void the warranty! -Speakers sound much better than the 701. -Can edit short video clips with Sony Vegas 6 and photos with Photoshop 7. Shocka! Now the SDHC card slot can be used to transfer/backup photos from my camera to the HDD while I'm on extended trips. -Bigger trackpad
- Cons: -Screen is not very bright.
-Cramped keyboard, as usual for the 701/900 series. New design and layout was not an improvement. Bevel from bottom to top is only on the left side, which is weird. At least the space bar doesn't curve upward on the left side anymore, and the text is bigger, so I will give it that. -Camera only 0.3 megapixels -Glossy lid... WHY? I hate glossy. The finish on the 701 was perfect. At least the glossy part is only on the very outside of the lid; the rest of the case is still matte black. -Crapware. Not as bad as other makers though, and easily uninstalled.
- Other Thoughts: I have the original 701 Linux version of the EeePC, and the 900HA is exactly what the EeePC should have been from the beginning. The case is just slightly bigger F-B than the 701, and a little chunkier T-B to accomodate the HDD, but still fits in the case I bought for the 701. Battery life is good; my experience so far has been 5 hours with maximum screen brightness. I wish the screen were a bit brighter. HDD is factory partitioned as 80gigs for XP, 60gigs for storage, and 2 hidden for restoration. The system is pretty responsive, so the move from flash memory to HDD is a good trade-off. The access panel allows you to easily upgrade the HDD and RAM. I upgraded to 2 gigs of Corsair RAM, and the "special" version of XP (ULCPC; tiny sticker!) recognizes all 2 gigs, not just 1.5 like I've read it would. Still impossible to touch-type with the keyboard, but you knew that already. I threw Vegas on just for kicks, and was shocked to find it can edit video, slowly of course. Overall I like it.
Best Eee yet!
- Pros: It fixes everything I did not like about the 701 4G, fixes what was wrong with SSD 900, and has the better form factor than the 901/904. Performance is very good. I have XP on my 701 4G and the 900HA is significantly faster. It boots faster (in under 30 seconds) and apps open faster. Web pages open very fast in IE7 and Firefox 3. I like the keyboard of the 900HA better than the 701 and 900. It is configured differently than the 900. They widened it from the 701/900. There is less space between keyboard and edge of notebook on the 900HA. I measured the letter keys and they are a tad wider than the 700 (and I assume the 900). The keyboard is about a 1/4 inch wider on the 900HA than 700 4G. The space key is shorter on the 900HA because they added a right ctrl key. The left tab, caps lock, and left shift are bigger on the 900HA than 701/900. It is very nice not having to worry about space. The grave accent/tilde key is to the left of the 1 key as well on the 900HA.
- Cons: It is a bit thicker and heavier than the 701/900. Having a 9" screen and a hard drive make it all worth it though. While the keyboard is mostly great the left 2 inches of it is not as stiff. The keys have more travel. The touchpad buttons are a bit stiff.
- Other Thoughts: Screen is as bright as 701 4G (if not a tad brighter) and has better contrast and color (without calibration). It is very nice having the 9” screen over the 7”. The 7” screen was probably my biggest gripe with the 701. Battery time is very good, even at maximum brightness. It is very quiet, even with the fan and hard drive going. The Elantech touchpad works very well. There is no lag and multitouch works as advertised. Wireless network performance is very good. I'm getting very good range. I love having a hard drive! I'm very happy that Asus put a very nice 5,400 rpm drive in the 900HA. The hard drive (Seagate Momentus 5400.3) has surprisingly good performance. I'm getting: maximum transfer rate - 76.9 MB/sec; average transfer rate - 62.5 MB/sec; access time - 12 ms; burst rate - 110.7 MB/sec. Aside from the access time these number are obviously way better than any other SSD Eee. In my mind the Eee finally performs like other notebooks.

Thank you Asus & Newegg...
- Pros: High portability, solid running machine. I had some doubts as to what I would be getting when I ordered it, but having it just one day alleviated any concerns that I had going in. I'm glad that I went for the XP OS rather than the Linux one. Can't beat the price either. I've read many reviews where people got theirs in 2 days. Well I got mine in 3 but one extra day is nothing to snivel about. lol
- Cons: Still trying to configure the browser to run complete web pages but I think that is probably more on the user than the machine. good thing I have small hands otherwise typing on this would be next to impossible. Also wish I'd have sprung for the memory upgrade. Depending on the application being run 1 gig of memory makes it sluggish at times.
- Other Thoughts: I kind of wish that it had come with Word 2007 instead of Power Point 2007. I'm a student working on my transfer degree and Word is the program that I use the most of the MS Office package.
For anyone seriously considering this Netbook, I would suggest memory upgrade as well as an external CD/DVD drive. Having the drive would make loading any apps less of a chore. Especially if you don't have access to another computer to download apps and programs to a thumb drive. In any case I am certainly enjoying my new computer. Saved me about $500 since I didn't have to purchase a full size Notebook. It would have been even more of a steal had I gotten the drive and the memory.
very poor
- Pros: small and compact. my daughter absolutely loved it. prety fast, great speed tests
- Cons: well.....it completely crashed beyond comprehension when windows media player froze.
- Other Thoughts: i want my money back
Kickin little netbook!
- Pros: -Portability and price are the major pros for this netbook. It's great to be able to just pick up and go whenever I need!
-The battery life is also amazing. I've easily gone 4-5 hours on it at a time, and only ran it down to 30% remaining battery life. -It comes with a "performance hybrid engine" so you can switch on the fly between power save mode, super performance mode, and automatic. -It's extremely light weight and can handle a lot more performance than what most netbooks are getting credit for. -It loads and displays videos online very quickly. -The LCD is bright enought that it can be viewed outside. -I was able to run 3 IE windows, (one streaming music from Pandora, one running JavaScript for schoolwork, and one on a Local News page) download iTunes, and type up a long Word 2007 document; all at the same time without getting any slowdown toggling between all the windows.
- Cons: -The 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor, though it can be overclocked, is this computer's greatest flaw compared to regular notebooks. However, at this time and place it's fairly hard to avoid. If you are going from a dual or quad core processor, you are definitely going to notice a difference in performance.
-I haven't noticed anyone else mention this yet, but this thing can get pretty hot. Especially the power brick if it's charging the battery from little or no power. I thought I would be fine, but wound up buying a cooling pad the second week of owning it because it was getting too hot on my lap. -A lot of people are complaining about the keyboard, but you do get used to it. It only took me 20-30 minutes to get used to touch typing on it, and I have larger than average hands. I still miss a few keys here and there but it's really not a biggy. -This is a no brainer, but it's not going to run any relatively newer games.
- Other Thoughts: -Upgrade to 2 Gigs of RAM right away. It's not that expensive ($20-30) and it makes all the difference!
-This thing has been able to handle everything I've thrown at within reason in terms of programs. *IE 8 and Firefox 3 run great *Office 2007 runs fine *C++ Studio Express and VB Studio Express run great *NES, SNES, Genesis, and N64 ROMs all run great. *Itunes runs flawlessly
The only program I've had an issue with thus far is FL Studio 5 XXL. Someone in an earlier review stated that they DJ'd and took it to gigs with them on a regular basis. The processor and the integrated sound card just cannot handle FruityLoops beyond very basic beats and synth lines. Anything more than that, it starts fuzzing out and it sounds terrible, and I was even using the stock VST and VSTi pluggins, nothing downloaded.
If you need something that is portable, lots of battery life, and can handle most basic programs, this is definitely the computer for you.
