Size matters, no matter what anybody says, and sometimes smaller is better. Especially if you know what to do with it, and Asus does. The Eee PC 904 HA is designed for people that need lots of power in a small package. The Intel Atom N270 CPU and 1GB of memory run this Windows XP system with power to spare.

The 8.9" screen has a 1024x600 resolution. Because of the smaller screen you can easily use it on a plane or train. The screen is driven by the integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics subsystem.

Since the 900HA is designed to be used anywhere there is a built in WiFi controller that supports 802.11b/g protocols. If there is no wireless signal around then you can plug into a standard Fast Ethernet connection. A webcam lets you have video chats.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful Portable Computer

Pros: This unit is excellent, with extremely compact size, Windows XP, small charger, long battery life, and built-in devices (wireless, webcam, card reader, etc). The touchpad is configured with several intuitive motions (a la Mac) for scrolling and more. Despite the slower processor than most computers, the speed deficiency isn't very noticeable for everyday applications.

Cons: Expect to spend a month or so getting used to the keyboard. The right shift key is particularly troublesome due to its reduced size. Also, you will have to train yourself to keep your thumbs up while typing, lest you tap the mousepad. The wireless eats up power; expect it to roughly halve the expected duration of a battery charge. The pre-loaded programs are all but useless. I suggest downloading several open-source/freeware programs to augment its functionality, most notably security programs (firewall, antivirus, antimalware, etc.)

Other Thoughts: For use as an ultra-portable computer you can take anywhere, this unit is outstanding. You can surf the web, do basic office work, listen to music, and more. However, this is not something well suited to a primary home computer.

5 out of 5 eggsreally glad I bought this....

Pros: *Perfect size to disappear in a large day bag but big enough to actually use

*Battery life is great

*I found the keyboard very usable, keys feel good

*Nice bright and crisp screen

*3 USB ports, web cam, built in wife....all works great

Cons: The only thing I dont like about this netbook is the touchpad. I hate touchpads because they are always in the way as I type.....and I use a wireless mouse, so I mostly disable them. This particular netbook doesnt have a hotkey to disable/enable the touchpad. So I leave it disabled all the time and then have to use my Windows-FU and they keyboard to enable it if I need to do something quickly and dont want to drag out the wireless mouse.

Yeah....its a lame *Con* but thats really my only complaint.

Other Thoughts: Just order the 2GB memory module from Newegg when you order this netbook.....install it right away. Greatly improves performance, although I bought one of these for a buddy and left it at 1GB (he can buy his own upgrades) and it worked quite well honestly.

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME!

Pros: LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!

Cons: None! there is the lack of a cd drive but the SD slot makes up for it completely. I didnt expect a disc drive obviously because its a netbook.

Other Thoughts: Great if you like to carry a computer around with you. i can fit mine in the inside pocket of my winter coat! :D

5 out of 5 eggsMy 1st netbook

Pros: I have owned this netbook for 4 months. Compact & light, decent sized keyboard, easily upgradeable RAM, OK battery life, 160GB HDD, fast boot time, good looking overall.

Cons: The cover is a fingerprint magnet (not really an issue), 3 USB ports are OK but 4 would be better. Mouse pad is a little sensitive. Really, not too much to complain about....

Other Thoughts: I upgraded to 2GB of RAM. It was about $20.00 & 10 minutes to do it. I have had the pleasure of going through the recovery setup a few times do to a couple of trojans that my great anti-virus would not get rid of. Very easy to do as long as you follow the directions supplied. The only problem after that is redoing all the software updates and setting your system back to your own preferences. I did not use the supplied Microsoft software that came with it. I installed office 2003 that I already had. Upgraded Skype to version 4 and it works great. The camera works pretty good even in low light. I wanted to test the processor so I installed Adobe Photoshop 7.0. Surprisingly Photoshop works on it without a problem. I also had to buy a new printer. I ended up with a WiFi epson. Now the netbook and my local computer share it.
Overall I am very satisfied with my 1st netbook. I will probably replace it with another ASUS with a 10" screen. BTW a cordless mouse is a must have.

1 out of 5 eggsDead as a Doornail and Forget the Warranty

Pros: Great for the two months it worked.

Cons: The machine stopped working completely (no lights, won't turn on at all) after two months. I have been calling the warranty number for two days straight. Either you listen to the "your call is important to us" for 40 minutes until the line goes dead or you finally get an answer and the person on the other end of the phone says they're too busy to help you, but somebody will get back to you. If you ask for a name, it's "Michael" or "John". If you ask for an extension number, they hang up on you. Nobody ever calls back. I very much doubt that I will ever see any warranty fulfillment.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: everything, this is a great product. i don't know what it is like with 1 GB RAM because i ordered a 2 GB stick with it and replaced it as soon as i got it. i am dual booting x*p and eee**buntu. i also use it as a portable audio editor with cak$%^&lk, running just straight audio works almost as well as a not-so-new desktop.

Cons: resolution, but it is not meant to run normal desktop programs.

2 out of 5 eggsBad - RMA service with ASUS

Pros: The laptop wa was small and nice looking.

Cons: I purchased this laptop and upon using it discovered the battery to be defective. The battery life on this laptop was only 30 minutes instead of the 7 hours touted. I returned the defective battery to asus and received a replacement battery within reasonable time. However the replacement battery sent to me was an older battery with 3 hours of battery life. A company’s business ethics is only a reflection of how it treats or shortchanges its customers. If I had the chance to review the product before purchasing it, 2 features would have prevented me from buying this item. The keyboard shift key located in an awkward position and the frame around the monitor is thick, leaving a very small view screen.

Other Thoughts: Due to the bad RMA and cheapness on the company practise this is not my choise.

4 out of 5 eggsA decent little machine

Pros: Note: I went to 2 gigs of memory immediately. Little/no bloatware. Quick boot up. Size is excellent, people covet this little thing. Runs everything quickly and copies files with haste. Ergonomically designed - except for the shift key. I liked the hard drive size. Keyboard is easy to type on - besides the shift key. Good price.

Cons: Crashed several times in first week, had to reload software. This was easy though and hasn't happened since. The worst thing about this computer is by far the right shift key. What a nuisance. I've stopped typing capital letters because of it. The included eee storage software is incredibly slow, making it useless. Battery life is 5 hours, which is fine, but don't advertise 7. I dislike the glossy case for a different reason. Who cares about fingerprints? I don't, it looks nice. Just don't set it down on the glossy side on a hard surface, it will slide like a hockey puck :)

Other Thoughts: I gave it 4 eggs because of the price, I'm in love with the size and compared to other laptops I have owned. At some point, I will get around to remapping the shift key.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Computer for the Money

Pros: Has everything except bluetooth in a compact, portable design. I was impressed enough to purchase a second unit for travel.

Cons: The first unit failed after 25 days. Sometimes, even new equipment will fail.

Other Thoughts: The only real problem I had with the unit was NewEgg customer service. Since I had the unit less than 30 days I tried getting an RMA but was referred to ASUS for support. By the time ASUS responded it was past NewEgg's 30 day policy so I was left with ASUS RMA support. Once I had that RMA and shipped the unit it was returned to me in about 4 days.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: I love this machine. Upgraded to 2 gig stick and it flies. Must buy for a college student and anyone whos on the go 24/7. For those of you who think the keyboard might be to small...IT'S NOT! Perfect size and I'm a big guy with big hands. The touchpad is nice(although the button stick on the smaller one, they don't on this one)and the speakers are much louder than you're goign to expect...they're tiny lol. Runs WoW so it can handle pretty much anything you want to throw on it(if its not too hardcore)

Cons: I did have a problem, but it was with windows and not the computer itself. Quick reformat with the recovery disc and it's just as fast as it was when I opened it up the first time!

Other Thoughts: The camera is a little meh...(maybe/eh) picture isn't great but it's not bad.
