Size matters, no matter what anybody says, and sometimes smaller is better. Especially if you know what to do with it, and Asus does. The Eee PC 1000H is designed for people that need lots of power in a small package. The Intel Atom N270 CPU and 1GB of memory run this Windows XP system with power to spare. A 160GB hard drive has plenty of room for you work and entertainment files.

The 10" screen has a 1024x600 resolution. Because of the smaller screen you can easily use it on a plane or train. The keyboard goes all the way out to the edge of the case and is 95% of the size of a standard keyboard so using it will feel normal.

Designed to be used anywhere there is a built in WiFi controller that supports 802.11b/g protocols. If there is no wireless signal around then you can plug into a standard Fast Ethernet connection. A webcam lets you have video chats.

  • newegg Ultra Portable Netbook Powered by Intel Atom Processor Equipped with an Intel Atom processor, Intel's smallest and lowest power processor, the Eee PC 1000HA is extremely compact and lightweight while delivering the power and performance you need for full online freedom.

4 out of 5 eggsenjoying itt so far

Pros: -Small and easily portable
-Larger screen than most netbooks
-Awesome performance for everything but gaming / production (can do mild gaming fine, expect low res, lower 3d settings)
-Windows XP w/ plenty of HDD for dual-booting
-Great battery life, charge it once a day on "average" use
-Perfect for carrying around DVDs, music, retro emulators, etc...

Cons: -I don't really like the touchpad. As others have said, it's way sensitive.
-The feeatures are really cool, multi-touch and all that jazz, but they really don't work that well personally.
-And as everyone else said, glossy finish = always dirty looking

Other Thoughts: Get a good USB wireless / bluetooth mouse and it's a perfect, small, affordable laptop

5 out of 5 eggsGreat netbook.

Pros: - Very portable.
- Good battery life.
- Bright screen.
- Fast (faster than my T41).

Cons: - I hear an occasional screeching sound. I'm not sure if I should worry about it.
- Touch pad a bit too sensitive.

Other Thoughts: Keyboard is smaller but it's not a problem getting adjusted to it.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic!

Pros: -Bought this for my wife, she has little hands so the small keyboard was a natural fit.
-Runs smooth.
-Its surprisingly quick.
-Handles MSO 2007 like a little champ.
-My wife averages 5.5 hrs battery life
-Will be upgrading to 2gigs soon.
-Non-reflective screen
-Sleek looks

Cons: Shift key placement, but you get used to it.

Other Thoughts: Great bargain. Even though its labeled a "netbook" this little thing can handle everyday use

2 out of 5 eggsGreat while it worked

Pros: -Great Size and Great Looks
-Lot of power for a small/cheap package
-Keyboard is very fat finger friendly

Cons: -I've had this thing for a little over two months and the battery is already faulty. It started about a month into my ownership when my windows would only report my battery charging to 93%. It still held an excellent charge so I didn't think much of it. Over the course of the next month, the ability for the battery to charge dropped steadily down and now it will only charge to 30% and only run on the battery for about an hour. This is unacceptable for such a new laptop.
-No Bluetooth
-Itunes can choke the computer (but that is the fault of Apple's bloatware, not the EEE PC)

Other Thoughts: Great while it worked. Terribly useless right now.

5 out of 5 eggsWow! Even does photo work!

Pros: Great machine. I bought it specifically so I'd be able to work on my photos during my commute (about 50 minutes on a commuter rail train, twice a day). I do photo processing, listen to music, and surf the web (when the train's WiFi is working) simultaneously, and the 1000GA doesn't skip a beat. I paired it with a 24" 1920 x 1024 ASUS LCD monitor, and it works incredibly well. So now it's a dual personality machine -- easily portable computer when I'm on the train, and HUGE display when I'm at home. Why would I ever go back to a conventional laptop?? (And NewEgg's delivery was even faster than I expected.)

Cons: Screen is 1024 x 600 pixels. 600 pixel screen height is a challenge, but I'm learning to live with it.

Other Thoughts: My typical use has been working on my photography hobby (using Nikon Capture NX 2) while also listening to music (iTunes) and working on photobook layout (MPix MyPhotoBook). I did the 2GB memory upgrade when I bought the machine, so that probably helps. I can't wait for my next trip -- with the onboard SD reader, I'll be able to download the pix from my cameras and see them immediately! And this unit is easily small and light enough to carry on vacation.

Basically, I haven't found a task yet that this thing couldn't handle. Battery life probably isn't quite 7 hours for me, but I've been able to use it intensively during my commutes, casually during the day, and still get home with very substantial power reserves.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: My Asus EEE is great for travel and business as I used it daily for 3 months strait working out of my home state. Came with perfect none-slippery carrying zip bag which makes it so it will not slip out or your hands or under your arm or from sliding off the front seat of your car when you have to slam on the brakes. No one could tell I was carrying a computer in and out of work the whole time. Kind of looks like a date book. Made good use of the built in web cam to talk to my wife from my temporary motel home. Plays music, videos and movies off the net well. Logged on to radio stations and used it as a radio at night. Was able to play music and listen to movies in the car hooking it up to my car speakers. Lasted the 5 hour trip home in power saving mode. Wireless works well.

Cons: Has no disc drive but wasn't an issue. Came with DVD you couldn't possibly use unless you bought and external DVD drive. Obveously you can't play games that need a CD or DVD to play. Speakers not the best but you can play with the realtek audio settings to make it sound better. I've no other issues.

Other Thoughts: Would be great for high school or college students unless thier classes came with CD's or DVD's. I got myself some free imaging software off the net and made a boot USB drive for such case of an emergency seeing you can't make use of the DVD that comes with this notebook.

5 out of 5 eggsSo Far, So Good...

Pros: Good keyboard for a netbook. Display is also very good. Power settings are easy to use. Everything works. Decent speed for email and web-surfing. Decent video capability. Good battery life. I use a wireless USB mouse, which works seamlessly.

Cons: I would have preferred XP Pro, but I was clear about the OS this netbook uses. Also, this will sound like a broken record, the case smudges and shows fingerprints like crazy. I would have preferred a matte black model. but this is a very minor issue.

Other Thoughts: Excellent netbook at a good price. Newegg, was great as usual.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Machine, A Must Buy

Pros: I actually bought mine in the store it is a 1000H model from the blue and yellow retail b-buy. So far as near as I can tell my model and this one have the exact same specs so i'm not sure of the difference the A makes. I have no problems typing on the keyboard, the processor is better than my dell D400 I sold in order to buy this model. The hard drive is nearly silent even though it is 160GB and not an SSD. The screen is awesome, for me you can not beat no glare with a stick. 1GB of ram is plenty for this lil beasty although 2GB upgrades won't hurt.

I have no complaints this is an awesome piece of hardware.

Cons: No real cons to speak of, although it only has one slot for ram, however my model says it will take a 4GB chip (I have not seen them for sale yet).

Battery life is way better than my Dell however I do not get the 7 hours. Even turning the camera and wifi off (no bluetooth is even installed on my model) I still can't get more than 4.5 hours of actual use. I even have the LCD screen turned down to almost off and the manual says the test is at 40%. At 40% I get maybe 3 hours.

Other Thoughts: This is a great laptop. Anyone needing something to use word documents and spread sheets with the familiarity of Windows XP will do well to get one of these.

If you have big hands you might want to move to a more traditional laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Netbook

Pros: Great netbook for the money you are paying for. I got it when it was 429.99 and now its cheaper so there is no excuse for you to get it.

Cons: Glossy black is pretty but attracts smudges etc Deal with it

Other Thoughts: I love this netbook. Buy a stick of 2gb ram and you are set.
