5 out of 5 eggsExcellent purchase!

Pros: Fast, long battery life, excellent wireless. Basically, it does everything it needs to do.

Cons: It takes a while to get it to where I, personally, feel comfortable with surfing on public wifi. And there is quite a bit of extraneous, pre-loaded software to remove.

Other Thoughts: I bought this netbook so that I could go to a coffee shop or somewhere else with wifi to do my writing without the distraction of my gaming computer at home. It is absolutely perfect for this. It's cheap, reliable, and doesn't do TOO much.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat little machine

Pros: Awesome battery life, I easily get 7 hours with what I would consider "normal" usage (average screen brightness, auto performance mode, wireless enabled and doing standard tasks on the internet, word processing, etc.).

Compact size, this thing easily fits in a backpack, even a purse or medium sized hippack. The included case is perfect for transporting it around in and the power brick is amazingly small, this is something a lot of others probably overlook but that makes a huge difference in portability. I don't know what to accurately compare it to other than to say the power brick is considerably smaller than your average flip phone. Compare this to the size of the power brick that goes along with your average desktop replacement notebook. This thing is way, way more portable. You can lug it around all day and not even know it's there.

Cons: The CPU has a 667 mHz frontside bus. However the memory bus maxes out at 533 mHz. Asus conveniently does not mention this anywhere in their literature and even a lot of reviews do not mention it because the specification is so well hidden most don't even realize it. But make no mistake about it, even if you purchase 667 mHz memory it will only run at 533 mHz on this netbook! Google for more info if you have any doubts. What this means is that this laptop has at best a very marginal performance advantage over N270 based netbooks so you may do better to simply save your cash and go with one of them.

The wireless N adapter only supports 2.4 gHz operation and not the faster and preferable 5 gHz standard. May not be compatible with some 802.11 n routers. Can be upgraded but that means extra expense for you.

Other Thoughts: This machine is very usable. No, performance is not on par with a desktop replacement but for email, word processing, watching downloaded videos, etc it is great. I even use SolidWorks on it acceptably. It's high portability enables new usage scenarious that may not have been realistic before. For example I simply toss this in my bag and take it to work with me everyday. In sleep mode it will turn on and be on the internet in 5 seconds.

Runs Vista just fine, though performance improved noticeably with an upgrade to 2 gigs of ram. I would recommend this upgrade if you intend to run Vista. Windows 7 is supposed to be more efficient and could run just fine on 1 gig.

Does not run HD video acceptably. This is the current reality of pretty much all netbooks. Thats why I don't really list it as a con, everyone pretty much knows this already when they purchase the machine.

Backlit keyboard would be nice. Shift key is non-standard size and can cause mistyping.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Little Machine

Pros: This is a great little computer. Has a great battery life, about 7-10 hours depending on your useage, 7 using wifi and installing new progams/updating windows, 10 just word processing

Cons: touch pad is a little sensative, and the shift key on the right side is a little small I keep hitting enter because I'm used to a larger key pad. Getting over it really quickly though.

Other Thoughts: I'm an engineering student in school and I have classes that use MATLAB a lot so i needed something i could bring to school easily, but still be able to have the power to run MATLAB and do 3-D graphing with it. I am very impressed with this computer. The speakers aren't great. but for listening to music in a small office the more than do the job.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The size is perfect and is very light weight. I carry it to class everyday and never get less than 6 hours of battery life.

Cons: The biggest thing that is wrong with well every netbook is the mouse. It is IMPOSSIBLE to scroll with the built in one. So if you get the netbook, you have to get an external mouse.

Other Thoughts: I would also recommend getting a 2gb memory stick. It is such a cheap upgrade(25 bucks on Newegg) that it is crazy not to do so

5 out of 5 eggsFiancee loves it

Pros: Small, lighter than a laptop, no problem typing on it. Was easy to set up, I don't remember having to clean off any spyware.

Cons: Doesn't seem like it would be good for games... that's what a desktop is for! The screen is necessarily small, I think its good for the netbook class though.

Other Thoughts: My lady says its great for writing, and she can take it to bed with her when she's sick and still get some internet. It looks nice, and the price was right.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Netbook

Pros: Excellent battery life: 6.5 hours with the 5400rpm HDD and maxed performance. 9.5 hours is for reduced performance settings. Bluetooth, 1.3MP webcam, stereo mics, good screen resolution.

Cons: A back-lit keyboard would be nice. The USB port placement needed more thought. The two are right next to the right hand mouse placement and external drives and such can get in the way. The thing looks awesome, but I would have preferred a matte finish just to avoid needing to wipe it clean constantly. Only a VGA port, but that is the least of my supposed "cons".

Other Thoughts: I have had this for around 4-5 months now and immediately upon purchase upgraded the memory to 2GB. Just recently I upgraded to 160GB HDD to a OCZ SSD and the performance difference is astounding. Boots faster, switches apps faster, and battery life is much longer now. I also went the Ubuntu Remix route about 2 months ago. Had a dual boot with the original HDD but Remix only on the SSD now and the performance is wicked. Works great at home hooked up to a 30" LG monitor with Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Just set up the closed lid to "nothing" and the netbook makes a great small footprint station.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Perfect Lappy

Pros: Screen, keyboad, touchpad, webcam, weight, bluetooth, wireless-n, runs Windows 7.

Cons: Can get a bit warm when streaming video (Netflix and mlb.com).

Other Thoughts: I've had this laptop for 5 months and I've never once regretted getting it or wished I had gotten a different model. The battery life might be overrated but its better than my 6 year old HP by about 6 hours!!

As soon as I received it I upgraded the RAM to 2GB and installed Windows 7 RC1 32-bit. It does run Aero fairly well but I am currently running Windows 7 Basic theme and it seems very snappy. Also Windows 7 is very "share happy" so make sure and disable WMP sharing options and any others. Runs Microsoft Office 2003 very well also.

Most of the time this lappy is hangin’ out on my couch next to me, ready to run Firefox in fullscreen mode (F11) and ready to update my Harmony remote at any given moment. I also am able to watch live baseball games streamed from mlb.com!! No wires, no lag, a whole entire baseball game in HD without the battery going below 25%!! Amazing!!!

5 out of 5 eggsReviewing the King of Netbooks

Pros: -HUGE battery life, at least 6 hours of normal use
-Completely compatible with win7, idles at 700MB RAM usage
-Keyboard is not only adequate, but a pleasure to type on. The chicle keyboard ensures that you aren't pressing other keys, making typos rarely seen
-Screen gives off no glare, easy to use under shade or in the sun
-Light, and extremely portable. Not only is the computer a small form factor, but the AC adapter is small and can be broken into two parts. Ideal for travel
-Color is nice. The blue contrasts well with the black of the keyboard.
-CPU is enough to handle any light task you throw at it
-With win7, networking is a breeze
-Putting in hard drives, RAM, and anything else internally is a completely painless process.

Cons: -Movies at high quality sometimes stutter. I'm not sure if this is a limitation of win7 or of the netbook. Things like dvd rips and youtube are fine.
-Only 1gig of ram, the 2g is completely mandatory and puts the price at 410$. Buy something from kingston or crucial, they have 20-30$ sticks.
-Trackpad takes some time to get used to, and is oversensitive on the zoom feature. This by no means renders it un-useable, as I feel that the trackpad is still better than most netbooks out there today.

Some people have difficulty adjusting to the screen, but when purchasing a netbook that should be a given. It's kind of like taking off an egg for a video card being too large.

Other Thoughts: After using a dell XPS m1530 for over 2 years...

I would purchase this thing a thousand times over. This thing is a complete package for someone using a laptop for actual portable means. I use this at a university, on the go, and as my desktop replacement and it does all of those things amazingly, with at least 7 hours on every single charge with wi-fi turned on and the OLED at full blast.

After using some other netbooks to compare, it's absolutely clear that this thing is the king of netbooks until 9 cell batteries become commonplace in ASUS products. Until then, I'm entirely certain that this thing CRUSHES the competition.

I cannot recommend this product enough.

Note: Never buy a 3 cell battery for a netbook. A 6 or 9 cell is worth the extra 100-150$
